Since 1906 this all volunteer organization has provided school aged children of central Ohio with warm winter clothing helping to enhance a child's self esteem and empowering them to get a good education. 100% of all donations collected on the 2nd Saturday of December must be used to provide this clothing. Charity Newsies provides warm winter clothing for needy school age children. Since 1907, 100% of all donations have gone to clothe school children in the Greater Columbus area. The commitment to 100% charity is the heart of Charity Newsies' success and the reason so many central Ohioans consider us the top nonprofit organization. Our volunteers personally investigate every applicant to make sure that the need is real while providing real encouragement to the children in the value of getting a good education.

I recently joined the Charity Newsies. I joined because it is a local Charity based in Central Ohio and ALL the profits go to funding clothes for children in need. I soon realized why this charity has been around for more than 100 years. The personal involvement from each member is what sets it apart. The story behind the paper drive is inspiring and I am privileged to be a part of this organization.

The Charity Newsies is an organization is that to its core has a very clear mission and that is to provide clothing so children in Franklin County can go to school.. very simple. The organization has grown over the years, and as I have gotten more involved as a member I have seen other active members increase their involvement too. It is a good feeling knowing that money raised during the year's activities is reserved exclusively for buying school clothing with other operational aspects covered by members' dues help keeping the organization true to its mission. I am a member of only one charitable organization and I'm glad that it's the Newsies.!

I have been a Newsie for 28 years, I joined the Newsies because of what they did for needy children;
give them clothing, encourage them to do well in school, and my #1 reason for joining is 100%
of all donations go to the childern and they still do all 3. The children are the future of this community
and what the Newsies does is a real positive action in this future.

I have been a Newsie for over 20 years and I am proud to tell people I am a NEWSIE! Our organization for the past 100+ years has stood firm on our mission that no child should miss school because of inadequate clothing. Every year all of the members team together and raise the funds needed to provide 12,000 or more school kids with NEW clothing. Our fundraiser for the clothing fund is 100% charity. Not one single dime is taken out of anyone's clothing fund donation to cover any administrative or operational costs. People find that hard to believe but as our white coveralls state 100% charity and all for the kids!

As a teacher for 30 years, I have seen the effect of Charity Newsies on the students in my class. Each child receives a NEW coat, NEW pants, NEW shirts,NEW underwear and NEW socks as well as a voucher to buy NEW shoes. Children who need uniforms get uniforms. The clothes are modern styles, so the children can feel like their friends do. I've had students come back from their clothing appointment, so excited, they model their clothes, jumping for joy at new underwear! No one should have to be that excited over new underwear....100% of the donations collected goes to buy the clothing. All members volunteer their time. As a member, I have witnessed the humility and gratitude of the families we clothe. I feel like this organization is very responsible in how they spend the donations they receive. I always leave my volunteer opportunities with a smile!

I have been a Newsie for 15 years. I have been affiliated with several other non-profits and charitable organziations over the years and have found that the Charity Newsies is one of the best organizations of its kind. Its mission and goals are clear and basic. Provide clothing to school age children in Franklin County. The thousands of clients that have been served by this organization over a century of service to the community is a testimant to the dedication of the staff and volunteers of the Charity Newsies. I have met some of the most selfless and commited volunteers since joining the organization and proud to call myself a Newsie.

I have been a newsie for five years and I am very impressed at the dedication of so many long term members. This organization works all year round to earn money to buy new school clothes for needy kids. 100% of money generated goes to clothing about 12,000 needy kids a year. It can be very rewarding seeing the excitement of kids walking out with a big bag of new clothes and their grateful parents.

I have been a NEWSIE Volunteer for about 12 years, and am very active in the organization. This charity clothes thousands of needy schoolchildren each year and has been in existence since 1906. We provide new clothing including shoes and a new winter coat for the school year. Our belief is that no child should be unable to attend school because of a lack of suitable clothing. We take applications and do a home visit so that we may personally interact with each child being clothed. This interaction is a positive experience for not only the child, but the parent and the NEWSIE volunteer, as we meet with each child and try to stress the importance of trying hard in school. I have enjoyed being a part of the Newsies, including the camaraderie among the members, and hope to continue working for this worthy organization for many years to come.

I am a recent volunteer, so my experience is very fresh. What I have witnessed in a very short time is a high degree of care and concern for children and their basic human needs (clothing, education, etc.). Rather than judging why they and their families are in a position of need, "Newsies" simply focus on trying to help those who have reached out for assistance. It is an honorable cause and one I am proud to become a part of.

Over 25 years ago, I moved to Columbus and learned quickly about the Newsies and the amount of goodwill they enjoyed in the community. Shortly thereafter I joined the Newises and found out firsthand what a great organization it was/is. Ever since, I have been doing home visits on most Sunday mornings after Labor Day right up to the Holidays. I also stand on a street corner on what is typically the coldest Saturday in December selling papers so that "no child would miss school for want of warm clothing."

Above and beyond Paper Sales, what many folks don't know is that if we receive 13,000 applications for clothing, we have to go out and see 13,000 children to see that the need is legitimate. It's a great feeling to be able to participate in such a terrific tradition in Columbus.

The need never stops. So, on December 13th of this year when you see guys in white coveralls on the street corner, stop and buy a paper. It's a great cause. 100% of what is raised on Paper Sale day and the Gala the week before goes to buy clothing. All of the administrative costs of the organization are paid by the members.

I joined the Charity Newsies two years ago because I now have more time to do volunteer work and wanted to be part of something that also has a solid reputation. I can say without a doubt I am honored to be part of something that truly delivers as 100% charity. The people who make up this organization are tremendous and when you are immersed in the events and meetings you can truly sense the deep commitment each one shares in maintaining the strength of the organization as well as to the work we are doing in providing clothing and other school necessities for underprivileged children throughout Franklin County, Ohio.

If you are interested in volunteering and sincerely desire to experience more and be more inspired, you most certainly will in this organization; and if you are looking to give you can be comfortable knowing your donation will go far to help improve the lives of kids who truly need it.

Twenty years ago I drove up to intersection of Westerville Rd and Morse, realized my friend Tom was standing out in the middle of the road on this cold wintery day dressed in his white Newsie overalls. I handed him a twenty without knowing much of why he was doing this, I trusted him and assumed it was for a good cause.
We crossed paths again five years ago, I periodically would drive to his corner over the years and donate, I had to know more about what I was giving money to. He told me about the organization and I decided I wanted to become part of it. I make donations to other groups, Faith Mission and St Jude Children's hospital among them, but nothing gives me a greater sense of accomplishment and joy than what I get to do for the Newsies. There I see our dollars working, I get to meet the families that need our help, I get to meet the children who are always smiling when we show up, I walk away knowing that I was able to help someone who might not get that help anywhere else. I admit to being selfish, this makes me happy! I do hope that as long as I am alive that I will be able to in some way participate in the Charity Newsies organization.

Standing in the intersection at Hamilton and Livingstion Ave with the temp around 25 degrees, wind and rain in your face for the last 5 hours makes one consider if they still maintain complete sanity. A horn honks and the window rolls down and the driver passes a check with a smile and God bless you for clothing their entire family and helping them stay in school during difficult times. Just one of the many stories that warms the hearts of the men and women the proudly wear the white jump suits on the 2nd Saturday of December every year. My father did it for 50 years so for me this is a family affair, with my son and I carring on the tradition of helping 10,000 school aged children stay clothed. Charity Newsies an organization that says and means 100% of every dollar raised goes to clothing school aged children.

I have been a proud member of a unique volunteer organization, The Charity Newsies for 15 years and truly enjoy participating in various Newsies events which all result in helping to provide Franklin County school age children with new school clothing. It is a 'powerful' emotion when we visit the children in their homes to encourage them and both parents and kids give us a sincere and teary eyed thank you. On the 2nd Saturday each December, hundreds of Newsies are on Columbus area street corners asking for your donations for a special edition newspaper. 100% of these donations go to buying school clothes for needy kids. This once a year paper sale also brings out numerous powerful emotions when parents smile and say thank you; when parents give money to their kids in the car to give to us and both parents and kids are smiling; when we are able to quickly tell our story to a motorist not familiar with us and they smile and are truly appreciative. We do not do this to hear a thank you even though it is greatly appreciated, we do it because it is the right thing to do, to help children feel good about themselves.

I have been a member of Charity Newsies (Ohio Newsboys Association) for approximately 15 years and can think of no other locally-based charity with the history and respect given to this organization. It is truly worthy of national recognition based on its success year after year clothing needy schoolchildren. This goal is shared by members, trustees, officers, and the Central Ohio community. When we sell newspapers, we are able to assure each donor that 100 percent of his or her donation will go toward clothing schoolchildren.

I have been a member and past Board Member/ Officer of this organization for close to 30 years. It is the only charity I am a member of because I believe so strongly in our mission of clothing school-age children. I am proud to say that 100% of the monies donated go to purchasing the clothes.
In addition to providing new clothing our encouragement to each child while visiting their homes has always brought a better understanding of the struggles so many people have while raising children.
Mr. Dave Thomas (Wendys' founder), while being a strong benefactor during his life, and his company continues his wishes, once told me that our charity needed to be in every major city in this country. I would love to see that happen.

I have been volunteering with Charity Newsies for 10 years now. It's a simple but powerful mission, to provide brand new clothes and shoes to Franklin County, Ohio kids in need so they can attend school without embarrassment. Since we are all volunteers the money we raise goes to clothing kids rather than to salaries, etc. Look for us on Central Ohio streets the second Saturday of every December and 100% of what you choose to give will help take care of the kids in our community.

I have been a member of the Charity Newsies for about 15 years. The hard work that this all volunteer group performs for the youth of central Ohio is amazing. The idea began over 100 years ago. Today this organization provides new school clothes to over 10,000 children every year. We collect donations on the second Saturday in December. You can find us on many street corners in Columbus. This day is very important to our organization and is one we all loo forward to each year.

Part of the Charity Newsies application process is having our volunteer Newsies make "home visits" and talk to the family. We talk to the children about school. We encourage students to stay in school. Talk to them about their favorite subjects and to achieve to their maximum potential. This is the part of the Newsies I find the most satisfying. Needless to say, 100% of all the donations go to clothe the school children in new apparel.
Since 1907 Charity Newsies single mission is "that no child be kept out of school for lack of adequate clothing." This is a renown organization with superb volunteers that deserves the maximum rating!

I have been a "Newsie" since 1995. The oganization is one of the top-most non-profits I have ever been involved with or known about. We clothe needy school children in Franklin County, Ohio, providing them with pants, shirts, underwear, school uniforms, coats, hats, backpacks - all brand new, not used - so that the children can attend school with their peers knowing that they are dressed appropriately and warmly. 100% of all donations to Charity Newsies goes into our clothing fund.

The most exciting aspect of this organization is the percentage of donations pledged towards the actual mission; 100%!

As a member, I am proud to boast this to all of those inquiring as to; "Where does the money go?"

We make an impact on children's well being each day of the year. Clothing a child is not a big deal in most homes, unless of course you are in a home where the money does not exist to do so.

It is much like great customer service, you never really appreciate it until you receive bad and/or no customer service. We take for granted the ability to prepare a child for their first day of school, many children would not attend their first day of school - if it were not for the Charity Newsies organization.

Devoted women and men who have one thing in common; we all suffer from the same heart disease; Charitable Giving!!!!!!!!!! More people should suffer from it, the world be a better place.

What a great organization to be involved with! For over 107 years they have provided needy children with school clothes throughout Franklin County. A very dedicated group of volunteers raises over a million dollars a year to clothe over 10,000 each year. New coats, hats, gloves, shoes, pants, shirts - it's all covered. They are a great bunch, look for them the second Saturday of December selling newspapers on street corners throughout central Ohio.

I've been involved as a member of the Charity Newsies for 17 years and I joined for the main reason that we are a local charity. Everyone we help is local. All money received stays local and we have one purpose and only one - provide brand new school clothes to the needy children of the area. Getting to work here and see the smiling faces of the children when they receive a brand new coat or watching them carrying out a bag of new clothes that is just for them is all the affirmation I need that we're doing something good. Serving on the board, I can personally attest to the fact that we do everything we can to minimize our expense and maximize the money spent on the clothing.
