Mission: Open just one year on July 1 and run by volunteers of a non-denominational bible study group, we have given toys, clothing, household necessities, home decor and furniture to over 200 families from local shelters, children services, fire department, churches, mental health services and other referrals. We also help these women in their transitional needs as they move their families from the shelters into their own homes again. We hold back many of the brand new donations we receive to give these families as we feel new items works as great self-esteem building. We offer make-over days for women who are trying hardest to get out of the shelters and back out on their own. We have several speakers from our group who share their success stories of beating all the obstacles and obtaining an education as single working mothers of usually 2-4 children. Our mission is to spread the word that if we women from the seventies could improve our lives without shelters and the abundance of grants for education that these young women have today - then they, certainly with the right focus and support, can do the same for their families. Our hopes and mission is to see at least 20 families with success stories by the end of our second year and have 3 more speakers. We also sponsor an 8 yr old burn victim with a donation jar in the store to help cover expenses for her numerous and neverending skin grafts from a terrible fire several years ago. She was set on fire by a playmate at an apartment playground when she was five. She helps at the store some weekends to excercise her badly burned hands and her attitude and outlook on life with all her suffering is a miracle to see. She is an inspiration to all who come thru our doors. Our mission for her this year is to have $5,000 for her needs by July 2005.
