Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Arts & Culture, Theater

Mission: Chagrin valley little theatre is a volunteer organization which exists to enrich the cultural life of the chagrin valley and northeast ohio. Through the production of live theatre and related programming, it advances the skills of individuals within the performing arts and provides educational and outreach programs to the community.

Programs: Theater and community productions: as a true community theater, for over 84 years, cvlt has been recognized throughout the region as a venue for high quality, affordable productions that showcase the talents of area actors. During the 2013-2014 season, cvlt staged six comedy, drama and musical productions in its 260-seat main theater, six 'less mainstream' productions at the 70-seat river street theater, hosted a 5-day film festival, provided improve class sessions, served as the venue for three chagrin studio orchestra concerts, and produced 4 special events. 13,158 individuals attended a total of 158 performances, given by over 120 actors and actresses, 50-60 live musicians, and 30 or so back stage volunteers.

youth theater: the cvlt youth theater program offers young actors and set designers a place to learn the basics of acting and theater production. Over 230 students in grades k - 12 participated in a series of six workshops held through the year, culminating in three sold-out productions on the main stage during the fall, late february and in the summer. In addition, participants in the youth theater program often perform in the halloween and christmas special events ("ghosts, goblins & gobbledygook" and "gingerbread tea" respectively).

accent on youth: in 2006, cvlt began "accent on youth", an outreach program bringing social and relationship issues to schools through live theater featuring student actors. During the 2013-2014 season, over 30 young adults presented roughly 50 performances to over 6,000 students in schools in and around the chagrin valley. Significant issues presented include bullying, substance abuse, depression and suicide. Original plays, highlighting these subjects, are written and presented after discussion with school counselors and students.

other: cvlt also offers additional programming, including lectures, dialogues, dance and musical performances, through its collaboration with the chagrin arts and its affiliation with the chagrin valley studio orchestra.
