I started working as a volunteer with Community Emergency Services in September of 2019. I had recently retired from University of Minnesota Hospital and knew I wanted to help people. I signed up at my church, which supported CES. I had given goods and money thru my church in the past. I come every Tuesday pm unless I am out of town. I regularly donate money and needed items to CES. The staff are wonderful and keep the volunteers up to date on plans, train us, and let us know we are appreciated. I serve as an advocate so help clients with food, prayer, and other needs. I enjoy volunteering and will continue to serve at CES. They do a great job with their clients
I was originally involved in delivering groceries to homebound CES neighbors who were unable to get to the food shelf due to their disabilities. My own back issues later required me to switch to the CES Ani-Meals delivery program. Initially I thought, "Why are we feeding animals when so many people are in need?" Boy, were my eyes opened !!!
I came to realize the joy these pets bring to the lives of these disabled people. They have so little yet sacrifice what they have to keep their pets fed & healthy.
My experiences in these CES activities have given me new appreciation for the good fortune in my own life and gratitude for the joy I witness in people helped by these programs.
I've been thrilled to be part of the organization as a volunteer over the years. I really feel like I make a difference in the lives of people I come in contact with at CES.
