Central Texas SPCA is the organization that all other organizations measure themselves against. They realize that a building and the best laid plans are only as good as the people who manage them and the kindness, compassion and effectiveness of the CTSPCA team is without doubt one of the best. They are a brilliant light in the world of animal welfare. I especially appreciate their adoption protocol and standards as each animal's best interests is of paramount importance in placement. Nothing is hurried.
I absolutely believe this is the best shelter in central Texas and your donations to this loving facility will be stewarded in the most responsible way.

Central Texas SPCA is a wonderful shelter. They care deeply for their dogs, whom they rescue from under-resourced county shelters and place into loving homes. They also care for the humans: When you work with the SPCA, you know you are adopting a fully vetted pet, and they’ll help you with introductions to your resident pets. Great experience!

I am a new volunteer at Central Texas SPCA so I have first hand knowledge of what happens behind the scenes. I can tell you that every single person I’ve met both staff members and volunteers are passionate about the health and well being of every animal that comes through the doors. During the volunteer training for dogs I learned how each crate, each kennel, each food and water dish and every piece of bedding is washed cleaned, deodorized and sanitized daily. Even the shoes of the volunteers must be sanitized before entering the building from the outside dog areas. I’ve just described a few of the tasks and duties. But there is something much more important happening here. The love and attention I’ve observed the animals receive was the main reason I decided to join as a volunteer. Each dog is called by name, petted and loved on during each and every encounter. Well-being is priority. I personally observed a staff member carefully examining an injured tail of a dog and soon after saw the staff member preparing the transport of the dog to receive immediate medical care. That’s the kind of immeasurable love and compassion Central Texas SPCA pours out on to the animals in their care. The staff and volunteers treat each animal as if they are their own. Lastly, I would like to mention that the caring doesn’t stop when the animal leaves the premises. I also applied to become a foster. Many facilities are happy to let most anyone foster a dog or cat. To become a foster at Central Texas SPCA, personal references are required from those who have knowledge of the applicant’s personality and housing facilities. All this in an effort to make sure each animal has every opportunity to be safe, loved and prepared to find a forever home. I would wholeheartedly recommend Central Texas SPCA to anyone wishing to adopt, volunteer or donate their time and money.

CTSPCA is an incredible animal shelter. I have experience volunteering here as well as supporting my parents in adopting a dog from here. The organization is so much more than a shelter; they provide a home-like environment for the animals. All animals get love and exercise, as well as any medical help they require. I have been a longtime financial supporter of CTSPCA because they deserve it. If you are looking to adopt an animal, please consider CTSPCA.

I have never seen a group so selflessly caring for each animal in their care. The caretakers and volunteers are truly interested in each animal and its own unique needs. The one on one time they devote to each animal helps to promote their long term well-being. Wonderful place. We adopted a dog that came from a wretched environment for the first years of her life. But with the shelter’s help, that little pup has blossomed and totally at ease in her new home. Our dog before her was also from this shelter. She was a perfect fit for us and us for her, thanks to the personal involvement they have with their animal guests.

We adopted our fantastic German Shepherd, Maya, in 2007. She was a 5 month-old puppy and everything the folks at Central Texas SPCA said she was. She fit into our family so easily and loved her cat siblings. She grew up to be smart, loving, loyal, and protective. We believe the time and attention the Central Texas SPCA team, volunteers, and foster families spend with each of their prospective adoptees makes a difference. Being a small shelter helps keep the number of dogs and cats manageable and aids in getting to know the unique personalities of each one. We were fortunate to have our beloved Maya for 15 years and she left a indelible impression on our hearts and memories. We are proud supporters of Central Texas SPCA for 16 years and will continue to do so.

I started out as a visitor, then became a donor and volunteer, served on several committees, then joined the Board, and also adopted some wonderful pets along the way. It truly is a community of friendship, kindness, and caring. And who doesn't want to help a homeless pet find a Forever Family? I got involved with this organization several years ago and continue to volunteer my time, talents, skills, and provide financial support because I believe in its mission. This isn't "just another animal shelter." What sets the Central Texas SPCA apart from the norm is the level of care they provide the animals. Care is tailored around each animal's specific needs. The commitment the staff and volunteers make to ensure the best quality of life for each cat and dog while at the shelter is incredible. It makes me proud to be part of something that takes such a positive approach. It isn't a sad shelter at all and I fully recommend everyone coming out to see for themselves exactly what makes this place so special. While the facility itself is quite aged/dated/old, the Central Texas SPCA's Capital Campaign is underway with hopes to break ground on a new facility in 2023. This is the PERFECT TIME to get involved if you aren't already. So many wonderfully magnificent things are happening that YOU can be a part of, too!

I have been volunteering and Board member with the Central Texas SPCA for 7+ years and could not be more proud of this small no-kill animal shelter. Having volunteered with many animal organizations in the past, Central Texas SPCA stood out to me for a number of reasons, the strongest of which being the individualized care and attention all cats and dogs receive, the "home-like" environments the animals spend their time in to reduce shelter stress, and the exceptional care the staff, from the managers to the caretakers, give every animal. One other reason this organization earns 5-stars from me is their unwavering dedication to never giving up on finding the best furr-ever home for each pet. Keep up the great work.

This year is my 22nd year volunteering with CTSPCA. I stay because I absolutely love the mission of this organization and the home-like environment provided to the dogs and cats. Although staff and volunteers have changed over the last 2 decades, some of the lead volunteers and board members are very long-term like me (some longer). It's this dedication, compassion, and treating all shelter pets like family members that leads me to remain committed with my time and my financial support. I adopted one of my cats from CTSPCA back in 2002 and he was a joy for 16 years. Now I foster from time to time and that's incredibly rewarding. I will continue to do all I can to help this organization succeed and grow!

I started as a volunteer with the CTSPCA in 2001 and have never stopped. I love the home-like environment they provide the animals and that they are incredibly committed to providing full vet care, including what's needed for sick or injured animals, and thoroughly screening applicants to ensure the animals go home to a great, forever home. The staff is very small--devoted to animal care--and fundraising and marketing is done by volunteers so I know that the money I donate is spent on caring for the animals. They do so much with so little and keep the shelter clean and welcoming. When you volunteer or donate here, you're making a big impact. And you can tell the animals are loved and happy--in their large spaces (no small metal cages here). I've adopted from here too and appreciate the way they followed up to see how things were going and that they will always be a resource for me and the community on animal-related issues.

We love our local SPCA in Leander Texas. My son Colton and I started volunteering there together when he was about 11. It was right after our fur baby of 13 years had crossed Rainbow Bridge. We did everything: walked dogs, filled water bowls, pools, gave baths, cleaned kennels, scooped poop, washed laundry and loved on the kitties. We spent hours at the shelter on the weekends and went many days after school. Colt loved buying things for the shelter from their wish list. He often chipped in his own money when we shopped for shelter items. We built wonderful memories together; my son and I working together at the shelter. Loving on all the shelter animals helped our hearts to heal little by little. We eventually adopted our current fur baby from there, JC. He is smart, beautiful and our best bud. The shelter is a warm, loving, safe place for four legged friends, as well as, two legged ones! I’m a teacher and several times my class has chosen to collect needed items for the shelter as their Service Project. We then delivered the items to the shelter, had a tour, with information and had some time with a few of the dogs. My students loved it. I teach 5th grade and many students wanted volunteer info. to take home to their parents. I love the SPCA, especially the shelter in Leander Texas. I have included 3 pictures of JC our current adoptee from the SPCA in Leander and a picture of one of my prior 5th grade classes in front of the shelter with the items they had collected and delivered as their School Service Project.

Central Texas SPCA is a god-send for the dogs and cats that are in neighboring town's kill-shelters. These animals are scheduled to be euthanized, yet CTSPCA transports them to our shelter, evaluates their health and secures veterinary care for them, vaccinates all animals and treats their conditions. Once they are healthy and vaccinated, the animals are then available for adoption.
I've volunteered for CTSPCA for almost 3 years now. As a volunteer I've been able to assist by walking the animals, cleaning the runs and crates, assist in feeding and giving water, bathing dogs, doing laundry and loving on the animals.
These volunteer opportunities have enriched my life immensely. I know that at the end of the day I have helped, in some temporary way, the animals that need this type of attention and care. Hopefully, I've contributed in a manner to help the dogs transition to their new forever homes.
The CTSPCA is a much needed facility in the Leander, TX area, and I highly recommend the dogs and cats there for adoption.

CTSPCA IS NOT YOUR ORDINARY ANIMAL SHELTER! We adopted our first family dog (Sheba) from CTSPCA back in 1998, and were so impressed with the experience that my daughter and I became donors and volunteers. We have fed/walked dogs, fed/played with cats, helped out with a number of adoption events, Barktoberfests and other fundraising events over the years. While the dogs and cats are in the shelter’s care, they are not confined to tiny dirty cages – the dogs have decent-sized clean outdoor shaded play spaces with toys and some kiddie pools, and when the dogs are inside, they have decent-sized kennels with bedding/toys/treats and other comforts. The cats have clean large home-like rooms complete with cat trees, windows toys and other comforts. Several years later, my daughter started working in the office helping with adoption processing to ensure every cat and dog goes to the home best suited for the animal. Our family has been involved with this organization in a variety of ways for over twenty years now. We have seen first hand as a client, volunteer, employee and donor how much they can do on a shoestring budget and how dedicated they are to their mission that we decided to become major donors to help them save even more animals in need. When you volunteer or donate here, you're making a big impact.

We love Central Texas SPCA!! We adopted our two adorable cats (siblings Emma and Sherlock) from CTSPCA in November 2018. They had been rescued as feral kittens. Thanks to the great care and attention they received at CTSPCA (especially from their "cat guy", David), our furry friends transitioned into the sweetest indoor companions we could have hoped for.

We had approached the shelter with some reluctance, expecting to see animals in cages. Not the case at all! Each cat had its own floor to ceiling space with toys and cat trees! The atmosphere was relaxed, probably due to the excellent staff. This was our first experience adopting from an agency and it could not have worked out any better! As a result, we have become donors as well as clients.

Thanks, CTSPCA for finding Emma and Sherlock for us!

I have followed and supported the Central Texas SPCA for many years and it is the #1 place I refer people to when looking to adopt a pet. Besides the amazing volunteers and staff who make the place what it is, the animals are not confined to tiny cages. The dogs have access to large outdoor areas larger than many backyards and the cats have large spaces that are very cozy and home-like. I also like that they pull at-risk animals from rural community shelters. One visit to their facility and you will understand why it is so different from any other shelter.

As a former volunteer at several larger Austin shelters, I found CTSPCA’s smaller shelter to be so amazing in so many ways. The cats stay in very spacious spaces, often with windows, and the dogs are often outside for fresh air in large runs and/or igloos, sometimes with kiddie pools to play in. The residents seem so much less stressed! The animals are well cared for, and the Board, staff and volunteers all work hard to keep everything running as smoothly as possible. I have had the honor of volunteering several times at the Central Texas SPCA through my company's biannual community service day, and I can tell you I look forward to those two days a year to return! This is NOT your run of the mill shelter, where the animals look lost and lonely and scared, because EACH animal is treated like a family member. They are loved, cared for, given attention and training and medical care. While the animals aren't in forever homes or foster care, they are treated like they are the cherished pets and family members they are. There is not a single dog or cat there that is treated like they are the discards of families past, like a lot of other shelters. CTSPCA runs on a shoe-string budget and the dedication of their board members with help from volunteers, but you wouldn't know it by seeing how happy the animals are! I am so thankful that CTSPCA is in existence, because they give hope and new life to the animals that come into their facility.

Wow! We are so touched by your wonderful comments. You’ve highlighted what we hope all would know and see about how we care for each pet we rescue. Thank you for volunteering with your colleagues and your kind words.

I previously lived in the Houston, TX area and worked with many larger shelters and rescue groups. I have become associated with this shelter since moving here. This is one of the best groups I have ever dealt with bar none. They do more with less money than most shelters and the Board and volunteers are devoted and proactive. I am the Kennel Manager for a large vet clinic in the area, I have managed large Boarding Kennels and was an Animal Control Officer; I understand more than most, just what it takes to run a facility like this. The Central Texas SPCA is a great example of what a shelter should be.

Cetral Texas SPCA is a small shelter that does a huge amount of good in the community. The volunteers and Board members are actively involved and try on a daily basis to educate the public and improve animals' lives. They are dedicated to "no-kill" and have done much in the community to meet the goals. I have served as a Board member and as a volunteer. My experience in both realms was inspiring to me.

This shelter offers a great environment to volunteer - there's plenty of things to do that vary from animal caretaking to yard work to fundraising. It's never boring! Although it's small compared to other wonderful animal shelters in the area, the dogs and cats have lots of room to play with companions and/or human visitors. It's just an incredibly special place.

The caring folks and CTSPCA will help match you with a dog or kitty that is the perfect fit for you and your family! They let you know as much about the pets background as they can and the staff is knowledgeable about animal behavior and very helpful with their observations. Visitors can visit with dogs on leash or in a playpen and the cats have walk in enclosures the size of small rooms! A wonderful shelter!

I joined the Central Texas SPCA as a volunteer about 8 years ago, and I love this organization. I chose this animal shelter because it was a "no kill" organization, and I am so happy I did. Not only does this shelter keep the animals until they are adopted, but a) they treat every single animal with respect and love b) they take care to promote animals who are less likely to be adopted fast c) they do not hesitate to turn down potential adopters if they believe that the animals will not have the right quality of life. The facilities are clean and the cats (I volunteer on the cat side) have nice habitats that allow them to move around and socilaize with other cats and people. Every habitat is big enough for visitors and volunteers to share the space with the cats. All habitats have toys, brushes and poles. The litter boxes are cleaned on a regular basis. To give you an example of how exceptionally respectful of animals this shelter is, one of the cats, Amos, was a resident for around 16 years! Even though it became evident that he was not adoptable (he got adopted and returned several times), he was the king of the shelter and lived a long and happy life there until he passed away this year from kidney disease. The shelter did everything to take care of Amos until there was nothing that could be done to keep him comfortable. This is one example among many why the Central Texas SPCA is a great organization and I'm proud to give them my support as a volunteer and a donor.

I have worked with the Central Texas SPCA for over two years and continue to be amazed at the dedication and compassion of the staff and volunteers that make this a great place for these dogs and cats. Not only are they an asset to the community but provide a fantastic home environment for the animals. I adopted one of my dogs from this organization and it was a great experience and they were a wonderful group to work with - and best of all Clyde has become a very important part of our family!

I've actually worked at CTXSPCA as well as volunteered. They treat their residents with the utmost respect and give them any and all the care they could possibly need. The residents are happy, healthy and have a place to stay until a suitable home adopts them. I love the Central Texas SPCA for all they do!

I found the Central Texas SPCA when I moved to the Austin area a couple years ago. The staff and volunteers alike have a special love for the animals at the shelter and treat them like royalty while they are in their in between homes. The "residents" are treated to several walks every day and more snuggles, hugs and kisses than they can handle. The CTSPCA doesn't just give their dogs and cats to anyone. The process to adopt is complete and involves a thorough check in to prior vet history with other family pets, home environment assessments, as well as a required meet and greet with other family members (pets included) to make sure the pet is going to the best possible home. Whether you are hoping to adopt or volunteer here, you can rest assured that the animals at the shelter are treated like family.

I began volunteering about 10 years ago, help socialize cats and kittens, take cats to an adoption days event once a month, and have adopted a dog from the shelter as well. The CTSPCA is very well run, has a dedicated core staff and many volunteers. They always do their best to find the right home for every animal, and any animal stays as long as it takes to accomplish that goal. My dog, Molly, was sick when she came to the shelter as an owner surrender. The shelter got her healthy and I was lucky enough to be chosen as her adopter. She's my walking buddy and watch dog. I love being a volunteer there.
