Causes: Community Foundations, Philanthropy
Mission: The Central New York Community Foundation, through the effective use of its endowment, enhances the quality of life for those who live and work within the community by:
- Encouraging the growth of a permanent charitable endowment to meet the community''s changing opportunities and needs;
- Providing vehicles for donors with diverse philanthropic interests which make giving easy, personally satisfying, and effective;
- Serving as a catalyst, neutral convener, and facilitator by stimulating and promoting collaborations among various organizations to accomplish common objectives;
- Carrying out a strategic grantmaking program that is flexible, visionary, and inclusive.
Programs: Providing Funding Opportunities and General Grants are two of our main programs.
The Distribution Committee reviews grant applications four times a year, and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors. The committee's recommendations are acted upon by the Board of Directors at the Board's quarterly meetings.
Special Initiatives include:
Horns A Plenty
A few years ago the Community Foundation assisted Stan Colella in a successful special project called Horns A Plenty. The purpose was to provide new and refurbished musical instruments to students in the Syracuse City School District who are currently unable to participate in instrumental music education due to lack of equipment. more...
