My daughter and I volunteer here and I see the love that is poured into this mission. Vicky has shared many stories of the horse’s. they are brought into a barn full of love, care, and hope. It may take weeks, months, years to see the turnaround, but it comes. Many find wonderful homes, others stay. I get to be a small part of that.
My granddaughter and I started volunteering at CNEER a couple months ago. They treat you like you have been family forever. I have never experienced anything like it. The horses are so loved and pampered. We look forward to our time there immensely.
This organization is Amazing! I got the chance to volunteer there last year at their fall festival. Went there knowing one other volunteer Sari, and left there a part of their family!
The care, the love and the compassion that Vicki and her band of volunteers have for these animals is truly a love affair. The knowledge, and the love is abundant.
I was especially Smitten by “Badonk” the donkey, what a character!
If I lived closer I would be a full time volunteer.
Vicki and team, keep up the great work! Regards, Jan Mullaney-Magee
Eight years ago we were privileged to adopt "Lukah", Mama's little colt. He is a thriving 10 year old, and a very important member of our family. We love him!! Many of you know the story of Mama, and how CNEER pulled her from the kill pen - when she was 5 months in foal with Lukah! Were it not for the great people at CNEER, two lives would have been lost, instead two lives were saved.....and they are both living their BEST life!! So grateful that organizations like this exist and keep rescuing animals in need.

I was looking all over New England for a Haflinger, with no success. Then in April 2016 I happened upon CNEER's website, and I found "Lukah", a 2-year old Haflinger cross! I spoke with Vicky Berry and my mom and I arranged a time to go look at the boy. As we drove up to their barn, we saw all the horses in the front pasture, and only one was blonde....."there he is!" I exclaimed to my mom. It was a very happy visit. Also there that morning was Karla Christiansen, or as I referred to her, she was Lukah's "Auntie Karla". We all went into the field to look at Lukah, talking about my experience, my horses at home, and what I was looking for in a new horse. Everyone at CNEER is so caring about their animals, they absolutely want to place the animals in the best possible home, and want to make good matches happen. We also met other "resident" horses at the farm, as well as several volunteers. It's a wonderful organization with wonderful people; the atmosphere is peaceful and upbeat. If we had more places like this, many more animals could be helped. So, more than a year later, Lukah is a Whately MA resident, with a Morgan horse for a buddy. He looks happy in his new home and is well-acclimated. We thank people like those at CNEER for rescuing these beautiful kind animals from the auction pipeline. Lukah's mama was in foal with him when she was rescued from the auction, so Vicky not only saved one life, but two. I am privileged to be the caretaker of this marvelous boy. Please give the rescue a call, or a visit, if you are considering adoption, or if you wish to foster a horse.
I volunteer here and I see the love that is poured into this mission. Vicky has shared many stories of the horse’s histories; heartbreaking experiences of starvation, abuse, neglect, impending slaughter. But they are brought into a barn full of love, care, stability, and hope. It may take weeks, months, years to see the turnaround, but it comes. The horses soften, calm, melt out of reactive mode, begin to show their full personalities. Many find wonderful homes, others stay. I get to be a small part of that and it’s magical and healing. Not just for the horses (& donkies!), but for me.
The very definition of care and compassion in the rescuing and rehabilitation of abandoned, starved and neglected horses. They are well managed by knowledgeable horse people and well staffed with compassionate volunteers; a safe haven for horses and people.
CNEER has been nothing short of superb in their efforts to the equine community! They're knowledge and passion are unparalleled, and they genuinely CARE about the horses and all the other animals they care for in support of their mission. I highly recommend CNEER to assist with your needs. They're engaged in the community and they enjoy spreading their knowledge with all of us whom are animal lovers! They also do an amazing fundraiser every fall which I will forever be a part of!
I first became acquainted with CNEER when my mare passed away; her stablemate was very, very sad; the two of them had been together for a very long time. Vicky expressed "deep compassion" for my loss and for my gelding's loss as well. She just so happened to have on the farm a beautiful little mare who of course came to live in my barn. Vicky made a difficult experience easier for me. She was so kind and she genuinely cared for both myself and my gelding. As well, she was happy for Aladida to have a good home to go to where she is loved and happy. I am grateful to Vicky, Betsey and all of the people who are involved with the rescue.
Absolutely 5 stars. I first met Vicky Berry about 15 years ago in connection to three former carriage horses rescued and living at her farm - Monte, their ambassador, Lilly, and Teddy. This was an issue I have been involved in in NYC - it's cruel and hard on the horses. I have been to the farm a few times and was so impressed with their work caring for the horses. They have saved so many and worked with them to make them whole so they can place them in a good home. Like Lilly, a former carriage horse, who was sent to New Holland by her owners. or Teddy, dumped by his carriage owner because he had unsightly sarcoids. None of these precious souls are alive now and I am so glad I got to meet them.
Vicky is so lovely, kind, and smart - a true Horse Whisperer. She was so willing to impart her knowledge of horses to me, a city girl who knew little about horses but I know cruelty and compassion when I see it - never making me feel dumb for not knowing something.

Wonderful organization full of caring individuals. They truly have the best interests of the animals in mind, put the wellbeing of the horses before anything else, and work tirelessly to ensure that they are safe and cared for. Happy to support this organization and all the good work they do.
Ah CNEER!! It is the only horse, donkey, pony, mini rescue I know of that consistently makes a difference. After I retired in 2010, I volunteered at several equine rescues. From its inception as a small farm rescue to where it is now, a property devoted to curing the hearts and bodies of equids, and the people who love them, it stands apart. It has enriched my life and provided me with purpose. Given the immensity of the crisis and the lack of public funding I highly recommend this charity as one that makes a difference. I have volunteered at other rescues who could not survive the task. This group of dedicated volunteers with stellar leadership from Vicki Berry and her family is in my opinion a shining star of everything a rescue should be. It has truly impacted the lived of countless animals. It comes complete with happy-ever-after stories from heart-rending beginnings. The volunteers are educated by Vicki and Per Whitmore (horse trainer) in methods to ensure that every handling of a horse is a training experience to further their possibilities in their future homes. If you are looking for a spot where your donation will not be divided into management, advertising, ETC, one where every penny goes to the cause…this is it!!
Vicky, Betsy & the rest of the Central New England Equine Rescue crew are some of the most dedicated people I know! They show the animals they rescue so much love, compassion, and dedication & it does not go unnoticed. They love what they do, and they truly make a difference!
I have adopted 2 horses from Central New England Equine Rescue over the past 5 years. Their volunteers are exquisite and give their all for these precious souls. The process to adopt or donate is simple. Adopting a horse from them is a process that has been very smooth. They care about the well-being of the horses, and are very thorough with potential adopters. The kindness they show the horses there is unmatched, and I am thankful to have loved 2 of them.
I have the pleasure of volunteering at this extraordinary rescue every weekend and it is the absolute highlight of my week. Everyone there is so fun to work with and the care given to the horses, ponies, and donkeys is out of this world. CNEER provides the most loving and comfortable home that you could possibly imagine for their rescues. CNEER is certainly a community that I am proud to be a part of and they deserve the world.
I have been a volunteer at CNEER since July 2015 and it has been an amazing journey.
CNEER is an organization that not only rescues horses and donkeys, but gives them the second chance they deserve at a high level, by making sure all volunteers are educated with the knowledge of horsemanship that needs to be for safety of themselves and the equines.
Being a Trauma Survivor, I can relate to anxiety and pain, understanding that patience is the key when working with these abused and neglected horses is crucial. I have grown so much, since I have become part of this organization, in horsemanship knowledge and by me working with the horses hands on, it has helped me with my own healing process.
Along this journey, I also have built many relationships with like minded people through sharing our stories, wanting to make a difference.
I’m blessed to have found CNEER, I encourage everyone to check the organization out and to hear the story of how it became about, it’s pretty amazing and heartfelt.
❤️
I have always loved horses and decided that I wanted to volunteer at an equine rescue facility.
I did a search online and found central New England Equine Rescue. After looking through Vicky’s website, I was compelled to reach out and submit an application to become a volunteer...One of the best decisions I ever made!
It is a bunch of like minded people getting together for a common goal of creating a better life for all equine.
Many horses and donkeys have been abused and neglected and have had a miserable life.
CNEER creates a haven for these beautiful animals and gives them hope for a second chance at a life they deserve.
Building trust, bonding with a horse, and making that connection is the best feeling you could possibly have! It fills your soul with such happiness and peace.
Not only do you help the horses, but you make many friends and CNEER becomes like a second home.
The positive attitudes, the willingness to help out in any capacity, and the sharing of knowledge and personal stories makes you feel connected to CNEER. That feeling makes you want to keep coming back to see the progress that is being made with all the horses.
I recommend CNEER to anyone that has a love of horses, a nurturing soul, a good work ethic, and isn’t afraid to get a little dirty!
Love this great and loving group of volunteers. I couldn't picture my life without caring for horses. There is something about a horse that has lost all hope and realizes, with time, that his/her life is going to be safe and loving that melts everyone's heart at this rescue. Now, i get to do it daily. The pictures are of Little Willie when he first came into the Rescue and the next photo is finding his favorite person in the world

I am currently in the process of adopting a horse. Vicky is a wonderful person with a great heart. She has great knowledge about horses. I look forward going to volunteer.
Vicky is absolutely lovely, and the volunteers here are very welcoming! Their dedication definitely does not go unnoticed!
Kind people. Rescued horses being cared for. New homes for some, sanctuary for others.
This is one of my favorite places on the planet.
We had the pleasure of adopting a “Special Needs” Sicilian Donkey from Central,New England Horse Rescue. They first called and asked us to make a prosthesis for him. My wife and I chatted and then asked if we could adopt him. They thoroughly checked our references, along with a board member stopping by our home in Florida to check our facilities out. We passed and have very proudly accepted Luigi into our lives. He gets a new leg yearly, sometimes just to give him a new color. I am a Certified Prosthetist/orthotist and I specialize in large animals.
I've been a volunteer and supporter of CNEER, off and on, since 2006. All the people involved with this rescue, including the many volunteers, work very hard to make sure these horses have whatever they need. It's especially rewarding when one of the horses gets adopted and leaves for their forever home. CNEER is a wonderful non profit, I'm happy to be a small part of.

I got involved with CNEER around 2006 because of Ambassador Montague, aka Monty. Monty was the first draft to come to the Warren barn and into the rescue. Vicky convinced me to come and visit this sad boy who had worked so hard for the Amish and then was sold at auction to a Boston Carriage driver who abused him because he wouldn't load on the trailer to work the streets of Boston. Generous women gathered the money to save him from going to slaughter and got him into the rescue. I can't begin to describe, in words, how much this horse stole my heart. He was one very special boy who through the rescue had many followers and people who loved him so much. I became totally involved with the rescue and totally fell in love with Monty. I had never been around a horse of his size and with Vicky's help I learned more in just a few short years than I had ever learned in the past. Everyone involved, including the many volunteers, do it for the horses. Each and every horse saved has a story and when you hear about their story you can't help but want to do what you can to help. Vicky is a very compassionate and caring teacher and watches over these magnificent horses 24/7 and Betsy's love of horses has been the same since she was a little girl. The only payment they get is from so many success stories of horses that have been saved, rehabilitated, and rehomed. My life has forever changed because of this rescue and especially Monty. Please visit their website and watch their posts on Facebook. There are so many wonderful rescues out there but this one is truly a gem.......Cheryl Syriac
Cneer is built with strain pain and hard work, without question....The more important component is heart, this group is 90% heart and devotion led with animals who respond in a magical place. Honestly some of the most amazing people working together for animals we care so much about. I’ve always loved horses and knowing I can help, even if it’s only one, and make some wonderful friends along the way is amazing. I started volunteering during a hard time in my life. The horses taught me about hard work, doing something selflessly for a bigger purpose, and a lot about myself.
Vicky is such a great person. She works very hard .Such a great rescue.Very hard working people. Rescuing Horses that need help knowing she’ll do the best by it.I wish you the best.
I am one of CNEER's biggest fans. I travel from Maine to West Brookfield every month to work with the fabulous people and volunteers and of course the horses at CNEER. It is such a happy place to be!!! The horses are so well cared for and such a joy to work with!!! Vicky and Betsy are the BEST!!! Their dedication to the work that they do is inspiring!!! Love everything about my experiences there!!!
This is one of the most dedicated and worthwhile non profit group. Very very dedicated group of people devoted to taking care of. Orphan horses
CNEER.... I arrived on their doorstep 9 years ago and have never left. What I found was a caring, legit, well organized group fully devoted to their task. All rescues are medically cared for, well fed, properly groomed, have regular visits with a farrier and last but not least, are given much love and respect. Whenever possible the rescues are found loving "forever" homes. I'm proud, honored, and grateful to have been taken in by this group. It's really more of a second family ....
Over the last few years I have watched so many miracles happen because these people cared. No animal should go through what some of these have and to watch them come back strong and beautiful because is just that, a miracle. These people and their supporters give their hearts.
CNEER is amazing the care , love and devotion to all the animals in their care is impeccable. We are lucky to have such caring humans in our area to help all these horses in need
Volunteered here and was impressed with how everyone worked together for the good of every horse. Great place, great people and unbelievable transformations in the horses that I saw. Highly recommend this non profit
A new year has brought so much into my life for the better, to be apart of the C.N.E.E.R family is a blessing, I am beyond proud to be apart of the rehabilitation and care of each broken heart that deserves a better future. All of the unconditional love and hard work that comes together to value every life big and small is beautiful.I recommend C.N.E.E.R to anyone looking to make a difference in a horses life
I cannot even begin to describe how thankful I am for these wonderful people. Through this incredible organization I was able to find my best friend for life. Hero (Hero the Kids, Rio, Kidd, etc) has been my saving grace, and I cannot even express the never ending joy he has brought into my life. These people truly have hearts of gold!

I cannot even begin to describe my adoration for the beautiful people behind CNEER. I adopted Hero aka Kidd aka Rio in September of 2017. He is my best friend, my rock, and a true reflection of myself. Without CNEER he wouldn't be here today. I am so thankful for these wonderful, selfless people who hear the cries of equines in need, and tend to them with such care, and passion. I don't know everyone personally, but I love them all so very much. I am so so thankful for this rescue.
We grew up together, meeting over our love of horses. We were in the local 4-h club. That this family who loved horses so much started this wonderful rescue, isn't surprising. So proud of all they've done. They're the real deal. They've helped not only the horses, they've helped people and countless other animals. Such a wonderful carrying group of people.

I've known Betsy and her family for about 27 yrs. Since the Ludlow 4H Saddle Pals days. The amount of care and love, the way they looked, and talked about their Abe, you could tell how dedicated they were to him. Now thank goodness they are sharing that with so many others. As you can see, it's not just the horses but to all the kids and people involved. They give so much time and money to save, restore, love all these animals. It's woderful. But it doesn't stop there. It extends to dogs, cats, chickens :), rabbits, whatever needs love. What a great group of people. It's an inspiration. I'm glad to know them!
I began volunteering with CNEER in 2009 and by the following year I adopted my first horse from. CNEER, my sweet boy Teddy. Horses are like potato chips and you can't just have one...by2014 Misty and Pie joined the family. I admire CNEER for the willingness to reach out a makes difference one horse at a time with love and integrity. The 260+ horses you have saved is overwhelming and extremely heartwarming. Thank you CNEER because of you I met my three dreams come true.
I love everything about this rescue!!! Vicky, Betsy and the crew are the most caring, compassionate people you could ever meet. Their total dedication and commitment to the horses and animals is awe inspiring!!! The volunteers are like GREAT rays of sunshine for the horses. It is such a happy place to be, like a little piece of heaven on earth!!!
The work that CNEER does is invaluable to the horses that they rescue and bring back to health. Without them, these beautiful, spirited horses would not be on this Earth today. By giving these horses the gift of a second chance at life and recovery through endless amounts of love, they have created a remarkable model organization. Not only do they help horses, but also people. In a world where society and people can often be discouraging and faith can easily be lost in humankind, those who are in charge and volunteer at CNEER restore one's faith in humankind that can only be found in the most genuine and kind-hearted people. Vicky is the absolute most kind and gracious person I have met in my life. She brings light and love into the hearts of each person she meets. It is no wonder that the horses that come to CNEER thrive and trust so much after a life of abuse and neglect. This is an extremely special place where people work tirelessly to get nothing in return but the privilege of having a hand in helping animals in need. Their work is absolutely essential and makes our world a better place, "one horse at a time". CNEER is a place for both human and equine healing that should be celebrated and recognized for what it is. In CNEER I have found a lifelong home and love for helping animals in need. Their service to these horses far exceeds any expectations and is driven by the selfless love of those who represent it.

Words are not enough to express how remarkable this rescue is and how rewarding it is to experience its light. The rescue is a safe haven for both animals and humans alike. It has become a sanctuary for me where I can forget about everything else in the world and just do what I love the most. I became a volunteer in September 2015 and it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. During my time here, I have been lucky enough to form bonds with amazing horses who otherwise may have had no second chance at life. There is nothing like being able to give back, make a difference, and do what you passionately love with the animals and people you have come to love all at once. I am forever grateful to this rescue for the opportunities it has provided me and for all the inspiring friendships I have found here. Even though I have not been lucky enough to have my own horse, I am able to come to this rescue and have 12 horses to love and care for. There is one horse specifically, Logan, who I have come to love as if he is my own, truly making life worth living. I am so grateful for Vicky and this rescue for teaching me what love, passion, selflessness, and dedication really mean. Vicky makes everyone feel so appreciated, welcomed, and loved )humans and animals!). Seeing the life-changing difference they have made in the horses lives has in turn changed my life. It is tremendous how so many broken souls have been healed and restored back to their natural health with such unconditional love and care. The transformations are astounding to witness. The rescue has helped me to become a more empathetic animal advocate in the world and has opened my eyes to the injustices that horses all over the world face. I can only hope that everyone can find such a place as this rescue so that they can be as positively impacted as I have been.
Central New England Equine Rescue is one of a kind. The care and love provided to these rescued horses is above and beyond anything you can imagine. Personally, Sega and Pearl have a special place in my heart.
I have been a volunteer at CNEER for 3 years and have seen so many happy endings to stories that started so differently. CNEER is devoted to taking in the unwanted, neglected and abused and bringing them back to a healthy, happy life through medical care, training/retraining and ultimately a forever home. CNEER also provides foster or sponsor opportunities while they wait for their forever home. And always volunteer opportunities as well!
Cheer is the best equine rescue in Massachusetts. I have volunteered there for at least 4 years and have watched many animals prosper from the wonderful care that they receive there. We adopted a horse from there, who has turned out to be a great horse thanks to Cneer.
CNEER is a wonderful, female led, equine rescue. They offer a safe haven with a loving and caring environment. You can become a donor through Smile Amazon where proceeds of your purchases are directed to CNEER. This is such an easy way to donate to this rescue. CNEER is well deserving to be fully recognized for their outstanding rescue efforts .
This is such a wonderful organization and one to model after. The volunteer efforts shine and are appreciated.
CNEER is a wonderful nonprofit organization. The group that runs it as well as the numerous volunteers have the biggest hearts and will jump through hoops to save as many horses as they can. Ive been to the farm countless times and the facility is very welcoming! You can't help but smile when you walk down the isle of the barn and see all the happy long noses smiling back at you! It takes a many hours of hard work on a daily basis to take care of these gentle giants and as I have witnessed in my visits there everyone who comes to lend a hand is more than happy to do so!
I originally met Vicky while working at the Post Office. we discovered we shared a great love for horses, and other animals too. In 2003, she and her daughter Betsy started what is known today as Central New England Equine Rescue. What a great idea and a greater venture. I had, previous to the Rescue's birth, gone to Vicky's to help with the horses she owned. At the very inception of the Rescue, I had a wonderful time volunteering to help out. There is nothing that smells so good, at least to me, as a barn with horses, hay, tack and the "end" result of what goes into the horse and subsequently exits the horse. I have so enjoyed being a part of the CNEER family and I look forward to helping whenever I can. It's an awesome learning experience and life experience. God love Vicky and Betsy's dream and their hard work to make it all come true. The horses come from varying experiences of neglect, abuse, abandonment and just people unable to care for them. Vicky, and Betsy, have performed "miracles" many times over in saving these wonderous animals. Keep up the good work, everyone. So much love to be around!!!
So grateful to be part of this Rescue. I have seen firsthand this Rescue grow at a methodical and wonderful pace. Saving over 250 horses since 2003! CNEER takes in equines that have no hope left. Thanks to the dedicated volunteers and generous supporters that keep all that CNEER does going.
I’ve been volunteering at this amazing rescue for almost two years traveling 45 minutes almost every Sunday. One of my favorite horses,Rusty, was adopted a few months ago. Although it was very sad for me to say goodbye to him I was overjoyed by the fact that he was going to his forever home which has, from the videos that I’ve seen, been a perfect fit. There are so many other equally heartwarming stories about these horses that have been rescued out of some pretty awful circumstances and are now being loved and well taken care of either at the rescue or at their new homes. These magnificent animals are the reason I look forward to getting up on my day off and heading out to West Brookfield. I have learned to help groom them as well as the cleaning of the stalls. I learn about their individual personalities. They give me so much more than I can give them.
My name is Carrie. My daughter Hannah and I started volunteering at this rescue last September. I have to say this is the most amazing experience of our lives. To see these animals arrive in the condition they are in and get love and affection and become trusting loving animals again is heart warming. Vicky, Betsy and all the volunteers are so wonder it is truly a family there. We all have the best interest for these horses in mind. We love each and everyone of them. This is a great non profit organization that really loves and cares for every individual animal. I am so proud to be a part od this family.
I adopted my Keno from CNEER and I couldn't be happier with all the support I have received and continued to receive. I wish everyone could adopt a rescue horse. They have so much love to offer.
CNEER is a wonderful rescue, my daughter has volunteered there and just loves it. The owners and other volunteers go above and beyond for those animals.
CNEER is a big part of my life, I’ve made so many friends at each of the rescue barns. I’ve some hospitable places in my time on this Earth, but nothing compared to what these good people have to offer. They treat everyone/animal with upmost respect and kindness and I’ve never had a negative moment spending time with the rescue folks.
It was on New Year's Day when i saw one of our miniature horses shivering in the single digit cold spell. She was the strongest and healthiest of the three minis and it was her first winter with us. We had been told that she had not previously been blanketed. CNEER welcomed me to come by that morning. I was able to take home with me a couple blankets to see which fit best. Miss Bella was very thankful!
Mydaughter’s first pony came from CNEER. He brought her through lead line and then was retired at our home! We love him and love what they do at the rescue!!
CNEER is one of the few equine rescues
In our area that operates with the animals and sustainability in mind. Rescued horses are cared for rehabilitated and when they are in good health are found good caring forever homes. This Cycle continues to always be able to take in another neglected horse.
On another note all proceeds go to the rescue, these funds are not put to support the resident caregiver only the rescue itself. CNEER holds several public fundraisers annually to support itself, the high attendance of these fundraisers speaks volumes to the support given to it from the public.
Great work Central New England Eguine Rescue.

CNEER is the most AWESOME place, We cherish every minute I spend there as a volunteer. We travel three hours from Maine to help out as often as we can. It is like a little piece of heaven! Vicky and all the volunteers work tirelessly taking care of and loving the horses. What a GREAT group of volunteers they have there. Vicky puts the horses needs above her all the time. We can't think of a more deserving non-profit. Just love them all!!!

I was recently asked--"how did you get involved with horses rescue?" And my answer was as follows--approximately 10 years ago I attended an equine day event where I met two amazing women--a mother daughter team Vicky and Betsy-- who started Central New England Equine Rescue. At that event they took the time to talk to me, and open my eyes to the horse rescue world. I had no idea about horses being surrendered, because of different circumstances. As well as horses going to horrendous auction houses, and often ending up on brutal transports headed to Canada, and Mexico in order to be slaughtered.
Since that conversation approximately 10 years ago, I have watched Vicky, Betsy, and their team of volunteers, and donors work tirelessly to assist hundreds of horses from a possible horrible fate. Not only does this fabulous team help the horses but they also help the human owners who are struggling to keep their horses.
Personally, Central New England Equine Rescue helped me save a beautiful horse out of the auction house in New Jersey headed toward the slaughter pipeline--I named her Sophia, and she is safe, and happy in Spencer, Massachusetts.
In conclusion, Central New England Equine Rescue, and their team of positive horse advocates are outstanding-- they are equine angels on earth! I am truly grateful to be a part of this rescue, and in turn I am able to educate others on what horse rescue is all about!
I’ve been volunteering at CNEER for about five years now and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The atmosphere of this rescue is so kind, gentle, and loving for both people and animals. I feel that every horse that comes through the barn doors knows they’re in a safe place. They’re welcomed with loving arms the second they step off the trailer. Seeing the horses learning to trust again and then seeing them go to their new families is so rewarding. ❤️
My experience with CNEER has been enlightening and profound. First, I never knew that people really worked as hard as the CNEER group, and second, that the work would be so rewarding.
I was first introduced to the rescue by a friend at a pleasant dinner about a dozen years ago. I know the family that started this charity with little more than a dream and passion for caring for neglected or slaughter bound horses. I've visited the rescue multiple times over the years and am always impressed with the dedication of the volunteers and stoicism of the live-in caretaker.
The story of each day is early to bed, early to rise with life revolving around equines who are nurtured back to health. They are prepared for adoption whenever possible, or, when a new home is unlikely, given permanent sanctuary. All equines, rescued by CNEER, are cherished and given a life free from hunger and unnecessary discomfort.
Thinking about my experience with CNEER reminds me of multiple lives that they have enriched. Examples include: Juliette, who was rescued, adopted and re-rescued when the adopter failed to care for her; Sega, who lost his eyes to a terrible infection and remains a sweet and gentle fellow; Monte, a huge and mild carriage horse, with a scarred face, who was rescued from slaughter and lived to be an ancient patient giant; Lulu a shy mini-horse who survived obvious horrific abuse; and many others.
The care provided by CNEER is expensive, so in addition to housing, feeding, and providing healthcare for their equine residents, they also conduct several fundraisers each year. The fundraisers are necessary, to maintain the quality of care that they provide and a lot of work in addition to the daily chores. I highly recommend that this rescue be at the top of the list of worthwhile charities. They are a persevering and deserving group and have earned the #1 position.
My mother & sister have always helped any 4 legged friend in need for as long as I can remeber, long before they began this wonderful organization!
This past Saturday my 5 year old daughter & I visited the rescue to pitch in with chores. My daughter was thrilled to help clean & fill water buckets, hand out treats to the horses & spend time with her furry friend Bandit❤
It's kinda funny how when you go to this barn to help.... You leave feeling like you are the one who should feel grateful! It lifts you up to be in this healing enviroment.
It is truely a blessing to have a place like this in our community where love & compassion are found in abundance!❤
I started at CNEER in November 2013.
I volunteered for nearly 3yrs, no matter what the weather was and loved every moment of it!
I've always loved horses and what a way to be up close and personal!
I will tell you, it's hard work but the rewards are endless!
To know you are working with horses who had been horribly mistreated and / or starved and be able to see the transformation over time with love and proper care is immeasurable!
Anyone that knows me at the rescue knows just how much I love Doc!
Sadly, I don't get to see him as often as I like but he is forever in my heart!
I am also grateful to Vicky for all her hard work, friendship and dedication to running this rescue!
And to all the volunteers that I know and to all those who have come after me, I thank you for giving of your time and loving these horses.
Best Always,
Annemarie Fitzgerald
I have worked with both of the owners of cneer and have met many horses in the program. The horses are treated with love and respect they deserve and find their forever homes. Those who do not find there forever homes are given a caring home at the rescue. I have never met better people in my entire existence.
I have been involved with CNEER for many years as a volunteer, adopter and board member. The organization is home grown from the love of horses. It is an honest, trustworthy and fiscally responsible organization.
I quarantine most of the horses that Central New England equine rescue takes in. They will spare no expense to make sure that every horse that comes in gets all the medical care it needs ASAP. This is a great horse rescue. Love to watch the way the horses improve after just months of being in the right care.
These wonderful people provided me with my soul horse ! Eco Doce was a neglected pregnant mess at only 2 years old and just look at her now ! I thank God every day that this rescue was able to save her and her foal now known as Hero aka The Kidd . CNEER makes dreams come true forpeople and horses ! A worthy nonprofit to support
CNEER rescued a baby donkey years ago and named him Badonk. He was loaded with worms, starving and his feet were terribly long. CNEER nursed him back to health and found him a home. They kept tract of him though, and when his situation changed after approx 10 years, they took him back.
24 hrs a day, 365 days a year CNEER rescued, protects, cares for and loves these equine that may have fallen through the cracks otherwise. CNEER R♡CKS!!
CNEER is a beautiful retreat surrounded by acres of green grass, where the animals can run free, be loved, and have no worries. They are able to learn to trust again.
Everyone who you meet at the rescue are so inviting to all who come and are excited to show you around and meet the animals!
CNEER truly cares about the wonderful work they do. They are knowledgeable about the animals and their well-being. CNEER will provide the best care they can possible give. I cannot say enough about amazing they all are!
Please spread the word about wonderful rescue.
What can be more noble than giving back life and dignity to these beautiful creatures? The sad truth is too often, horses are treated as disposable and left to horrific circumstances when they need our help most. CNEER works tirelessly to save the abused, the neglected and the forgotten and give them a chance to live out their days with the love and care they deserve. Such a positive and heartening thing in today's cold world.
My beloved horse Reo came from CNEER.I am fostering a beautiful mare from there now. I am so glad to see a rescue that takes in the broken, worn and unrideable hprses. I love my unrideable Reo and think the world would be a lesser place without his nose to kiss. Think about opening your heart to an equine best friend I would give Betsy amd CNEER a zillion dollars if I had it.
CNEER is an awesome place where the horses are number one. All of the volunteers and members of the board are incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming. The impact they have is incredible, on both the equines and people that have their lives touched by CNEER!
Ive been to a few functions for this charity over the years. Great people and cause. I would recommend this charity and all of their events as a family friendly building block.
cneer came to my rescue in the spring of 2011. i lost my beloved 40 year old horse chief. my other horse mac was devastated with the loss and became very depressed and anxious. i contacted cneer about fostering one of their rescue horses. within days, literally, i was taken to a couple of barns where some of the horses that were available to be fostered were housed. i fell in love with a young thoroughbred named whiskey lullaby. whiskey was going to suffer the same fate as many racing horses. he was headed to slaughter. fortunately for whiskey cneer stepped in and saved him. within a couple of more days cneer delivered this life saver to my farm to mac and i. mac fell instantly in love as did i. cneer saved whiskey's life and in turn whiskey, i feel, saved mac's life. i fell so much in love with whiskey that i ended up adopting him. could never imagine my life, or mac without him here. tried to attach a video of an average day here at my farm with the two boys playing. they really are a scream. cneer is a group of dedicated people that give so much of themselves and there is a special place in heaven for all of them!
My family has been a part of the rescue for only a year. Our daughter started riding lessons after an accident that left her unable to walk & run. Someone told us about the barn. We started with lessons at the barn where the rescue is housed, and after a few weeks my daughter was helping clean stalls and feed the rescue horses. The rescue is so much more for us than a barn with horses. To see a horse come in underweight & sickly is heartbreaking, but after a few weeks of proper nutrition and a little love, many of the horses are restored to their natural health. CNEER is run soley on volunteers who give 100% to make the barn a home!!

I will admit I was never a horse lover until I was brought to this wonderful place. A dear friend of mine wanted to introduce me to this world. I'm so happy she did. The friendly/family atmosphere at the Rescue makes you feel like you belong there. The horses all appreciate the attention and love given to them. I walked into this barn for the first time scared to death of horses and two of the horses actually reached out to me to calm my nerves and volunteers welcomed with me with open arms. The combination of these things made me want to get involved and help in any way I could. This is an organization that will do whatever it takes to save a horse in need! I have never seen a group with such big hearts. I’m privileged to know them and be a part of what they do.
