Programs: Energy systems network (esn) is an industry-driven economic organization focused on bringing energy technology solutions to market, using innovation to confront global energy challenges with systems- level solutions. Esn's mission is to build an energy ecosystem that connects partner companies and institutions with industry to address energy needs and generate new jobs and investment in the process. Throughout 2014, energy systems network's (esn) project development efforts gained traction, including two major announcements and multiple workshop events bringing together subject matter experts from across the country to refine and update project concepts that were developed in 2013. Project plug-in 2. 0esn breathed new life into the local plug-in vehicle (pev) market through activities organized through our partnership with the city of indianapolis, garnering national and international media attention. Esn supported the launch of blueindy, the all-electric carsharing service brought to indianapolis by french multinational corporation bollore group, serving as their first carsharing program outside of europe. Bollore committed a $35 million investment to the project, which will provide up to 1,000 charging stations and 500 plug-in vehicles across 200 carsharing sites. Project portfolio developmenttwo of esn's newly defined projects from the previous year made strides in 2014 through continued project development. The natural gas fleet initiative is a project aiming to demonstrate both the technology and economics of natural gas in heavy duty trucking fleets in the midwest. Esn and its partners held several workshops throughout the year to begin outlining a mid-haul fleet pilot using best-of-class truck and natural gas fueling technology for mid-size carriers in the midwest. Secondly, esn organized a project team consisting of industry and university partners to develop a comprehensive energy plan strategy for the military base that would allow them to successfully meet the energy goals outlined by the u. S. Department of defense in 2012. Esn is currently leading project partners in a detailed energy usage analysis at the base to begin evaluating proper steps to increase renewable energy on-site, improve energy efficiency and consider possible options for an on-base microgrid system.

In 2014, techpoint took huge steps ahead in transforming into an even more powerful ecosystem growth and accelerator. Xpat, an events and communication program targeting tech-skilled former hoosiers, succeeded in getting people to come back to indiana for open tech jobs. Through pinpointed digital advertising, partnerships with university alumni associations, and a holiday event called indyxmas, xpat has now helped dozens of indiana employers attract the talent they need. Xpat will add regional recruiting events in 2015. Xtern recruited 50 students from around the country who participated in the program. Before their xtern experience, 67 percent of participating students were not considering a job in indianapolis after graduation. After xtern, 91 percent are now strongly considering returning to indianapolis after graduation to join the tech scene. The xtern program will double in size and scope in 2015. Tailwind, a scale-up "fast lane" for startups powered by indiana's offi ce of small business and entrepreneurship, has helped defragment access to capital and other growth resources for 120 promising innovation-driven indiana companies. Techpoint is helping to accelerate growth by connecting entrepreneurs to resources that are often hard to come by, like customer prospects, promotional opportunities, and mentors. Techpoint events connect and educate the community through established and respected events like the mira awards, new economy new rules, tech thursday, and entrepreneur bootcamps. Techpoint experimented with new event concepts that drew greater attendance than ever before.
conexus indiana promotes the state's advanced manufacturing and logistics (aml) industry, prepares a skilled workforce pipeline, and supports growth and investment in an industry segment vital to indiana's economy. A statewide catalyst for collaboration between industry, academia, and government, conexus indiana has spearheaded innovative programs to help prepare students for aml careers, and has shepherded the development of industry-led councils that identify and prioritize opportunities for growth in the logistics industry as well as the automotive and aerospace and defense sectors. Education and talent development took center stage among members of the indiana automotive council, a statewide leadership group of automotive industry executives, government and higher education leaders. The council delivered key workforce development components of its 2013 strategic plan in short order, building on conexus indiana's existing workforce development efforts. With the support and direction of its 32 member council, more than 150 postsecondary students enrolled in the industrial maintenance training program with ivy tech community college or vincennes university. While the conexus indiana logistics council launched its statewide logistics plandelivering indiana's logistics future, it also mobilized more than 250 logistics business executives and leaders throughout the state to identify regional and local logistics priorities. At the request of the indiana department of transportation, indiana economic development corporation and the ports of indiana, conexus indiana formed six regional logistics councils and developed regional strategic plans focused on four strategic areas: infrastructure, public policy, public awareness and workforce development. The regional councils identified priority projects in 82 of indiana's 92 counties in 2014 and laid the foundation to launch each of the six strategic plans in 2015. These plans will serve as an important blueprint to strengthen and build the next generation of indiana logistics assets. In 2014, the state of indiana launched a new program designed by the indiana aerospace and defense council (iadc) to help small businesses pursue federal research and development awards. Through the program, the office of small business & entrepreneurship (osbe) provides small businesses with free proposal-writing assistance, while elevate ventures utilizes the state's 21st century research & technology fund to supplement certain r&d awards with matching state funds--$0. 50 for every federal dollar awarded, up to $50,000. In its first year, the program distributed 23 matching grants to 20 indiana companies, all of which combined to bring $4. 14 million of federal r&d work to indiana. The iadc, a subcontractor to both osbe and elevate ventures under this program, is responsible for strategic industry engagement and outreach.
