Mission: The center for rural outreach and public services, inc. (crops) is a grassroots nonprofit that was organized in 2004 to empower intergenerational groups of people and organizations to work together to revitalize rural america. Over the years, crops' mission was revised "to alleviate poverty in america by growing a new generation of leaders for the future. " nearly all crops programs are focused on youth development, intergenerational leadership development and/or community development. Crops provides technical assistance to rural municipalities, urban communities, states, federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, native american tribes and native hawaiian communities. Crops overarching purpose is youth-led community development.
Programs: 2. Capacity building services for the ute mountain ute tribe provide leadership development, team development, problem solving, program design, strategic planning, social media consulting, and facilitation services for numerous federally funded grant programs from ana, hrsa, samhsa, usda, doj, doe, and ihs. Crops orchestrated the first ever ute mountain native national partnership retreat that was attended by 20 tribal leaders, 20 national partners and 40 federal agencies and has facilitated projects valued at more than 38m for the tribe. In 2017 crops facilitated a 9m water and wastewater project, 2. 1m solar project and 500,000 youth led community development and housing plan to address a 200 family housing shortage and high unemployment in the reservation.
crop's youth development programs include intergenerational leadership training , asset based community development; film making workshops in partnership with films by youth inside, co-production of two award winning native youth films called escape and the strength of siblings. Eighteen youth from the ute mountain ute tribe wrote, performed, and directed these films in 10-13 days during the summer of 2015 and 2016. Com/watch? . In 2017 youth from the umut participated in a cross cultural intergeneration leadership development retreat in hawaii with native hawaiian youth.
