CIS regularly produces analysis of Census Bureau data that would otherwise be difficult to understand. They provide education to college students, high school students, and provide research to media across the political spectrum, from CNN to Fox to the New York Times, Washington Post, Washington Times, and many other media. They might be the most cited immigration research non-profit in the country.

A great organization that promotes smart and common sense policies like stopping illegal immigration and reducing legal immigration to levels that are in the best interests of all Americans, especially working and middle class Americans.

CIS produces many thought-provoking research reports on the impact of our current high levels of immigration (showing that they are not always an unmixed blessing), our incredibly complex visa system, and our loose enforcement of immigration laws. Unlike reviewer mel6, I have found CIS to be at least as objective on the topic of immigration and its consequences as such respected liberal organizations as the Center for American Progress, the Migration Policy Institute, and the Urban Institute, which typically propound a "more immigration is always better" viewpoint. Much of what is stated in the review by mel6 is contrary to my experience, after having read many CIS reports: (a) It does not “supply” Fox News; rather, it posts all of its research on its website for all news networks and other organizations to use equally. (b) The quantitative information in its reports is not “speculative” but uses data from authoritative sources, such as the federal government, and standard statistical estimation techniques. (c) Sources ARE cited (and heavily footnoted), and the methodologies used for estimation are clearly explained. (d) They DO rely on public information wherever available from an authoritative source. Ironically, the review by self-described “expert’ mel6 seems much more biased and unfounded than the CIS research it criticizes.

This organization supplies Fox News and other media with items of biased conservative research. The quantitative information on employment and illegal immigration is speculative and sources are not cited, are attributed obliquely to government sources, quote their own research, and do not rely on public information. Serious scholars beware.
