BCAC gave me the most memorable internship of my undergraduate career. They made me feel like part of the staff just like they strive to make every child and parent feel comfortable. Child abuse is a challenging topic, but they work hard to make the conversations easier. As a part of the team, I was given insight and access to all parts of the reporting process as well as experience in a professional setting. Interning with BCAC was one of the best decisions I've made.

Since December 1999 I have had the pleasure of working in an Accredited Child Advocacy Center as a Social Worker and Forensic Interviewer; however, in 2009 I was given the honor to become a team member at the Baltimore Child Abuse Center (BCAC). At the BCAC I have been able to improve upon my skills and enhance my development as a Victim's Advocate for sexual abuse and sexual assault victims by providing forensic interviews to our clients. The forensic interview is conducted in a manner that is developmentally appropriate, sensitive to the needs of the child or intellectualy disabled adult and neutral in tone. We provide forensic interviews at the BCAC to assist in both the civil and criminal investigations of sexual abuse and sexual assault victims. We are partnered with several different disciplines in Baltimore City such as Department of Social Services, Law Enforcement and State's Attorney's Office. We provide an atmosphere that services the needs of sexual abuse and assault victims as well as their families. I have been able to increase my knowledge regarding the most effective manner and vital importance in conducting clear and credible forensic interviews through ongoing training and development at the BCAC. This has enhanced how our agency has been able to effectively serve the Baltimore City community who have experienced some unfortunate element of sexual trauma.
