Mission: CGI serves as an incubator for new initiatives that creatively solve healthcare inequities around the world. We act as a collaborator with individuals and organizations in developing and launching projects that address the needs of medically impoverished populations. We function as a facilitator in directing public and private resources towards programs aimed at improving health globally.
Programs: MENTOR: Methods, Experiences, Networking & Training, Organizing & Research
"Where do you want to go? What do you want to do? We can make it happen."
We are proud to announce a very special and unique new program that provides individualized mentorship for people wanting to learn how to conduct their own project(s). We help you to gain funding, and we provide skills training, contacts and tools to actualize your plans. In some instances, undergraduate and graduate credits can also be provide
PROJECT NINOS: Bolivia
The Center for Global Initiatives collaborated with the Flying Doctors of America in a pioneering and critical project. We were the first non-Bolivian group to be granted access to three Bolivian prisons. Hundreds of children live with their parent(s) in these prisons. We provided care with a focus on general medicine, pediatrics, and gynecology. The Center will embark on a journey to help these non-criminal, yet imprisoned children through a unique and pioneering effort. Basically, we plan (pending funding) to develop and deploy educational and social skills training for educators (there are schools in the prisons!) and guards, as well as parenting skills training and resilience development instruction
THRIVE: Tanzania
The kindergarten we helped to found in 2005 is expanding its scope via THRIVE. We are using education as a basis for developing resilience of the orphans as well as those providing healthcare in the neighboring clinic/hospital. We will be developing programs for local nursing students and orphan children in collaboration with local doctors, nurses, and staff. We will have a particular focus on counseling to people with HIV infection and AIDS. The ages of children are between 3 to 12 years. The name of the hospital is Huruma Designated Hospital and is in Kilimanjaro Region in Rombo District. The primary illnesses of patients in our hospital are Malaria, T.B, Pneumonia, Immunosupression, Diabetes, and Hypertension.
SMART: Cambodia
Proof of concept. We are developing a project that will bring training and potentially telehealth services to rural areas that is delivered by indigenous village women. Public heath, primary care, first aid, and emergency services are all but absent in rural areas of Cambodia. “Itinerant” medical ex-pats may be the currently best available healthcare resource in such areas. This project seeks to empower indigenous women by providing training in basic public health practices and emergency medical care/first aid so they may be of aid to those in their for their villages. They would be supported by a training program that will enable them to provide sufficient help until the patient can be taken to the nearest medical facility or a traveling physician can come to the village. It will be unique, as it will not require literacy to operate
MEDICAL INTERVENTION: Benin
Contacts and relationships have been developed with colleagues in Benin that crosscuts various areas: health and illness, poverty and sustainability, environmental concerns, traditional and medical sciences/health treatment and education. We plan to develop a scientific and economic mechanism of researching the medicinal properties of specific plant materials used by our Benin partners (university scientists and traditional healers) to further develop medicines and use the resultant knowledge in order to refine the compounds to have fewer side-effects and improved dosing characteristics, and to develop that intellectual property into concomitant economic value that will provide for economic sustainability, self-sufficiency, and independence for on-going research.

There is an incredible origin story here. Having watched this organization from the beginning I can only say how impressive it is as it morphs to meet the needs of a changing planet
From our initial connection with Dr Chris Stout CGI has been an extremely impressive and seemingly inexhaustible reservoir of invaluable information in the global humanitarian non-profit community. There is seldom a time when we are not receiving timely and relevant communications from CGI’s treasure trove of free material cascaded across different social media platforms. An example is Chris’s appropriately-titled podcast, Living a Life in Full, which is educational for the curious and inspirational for those looking to stretch boundaries. It continues to astound how one organization can be so effortlessly prolific and giving vis-à -vis its output!
- Ernestina Olufunke Adeniji and Victor Olusegun Adeniji, Co-founders, The CURE Initiative
During a year beset by global upheaval due to the COVID-19 pandemic Chris Stout and his colleagues at CGI were characteristically prolific in formulating and sharing fit-for-purpose programmes and interventions. CGI combines vision, compassion and impact and remains a benchmark for nonprofits.
CGI’s posts and podcasts remain consistently reliable sources of quality, evidence-based information on diverse topics obtained from best-in-class individuals and organisations. Its regular coverage of the novel coronavirus pandemic thoughtfully and expertly sifts through a slew of resources much of which mislead and/or unnecessarily alarm more than they enlighten.
- Ernestina Olufunke Adeniji and Victor Olusegun Adeniji, Co-founders, The CURE Initiative
Chris Stout and CGI do exceptional, tireless work in channeling ideas, expertise, resources and networks to organisations around the world seeking to broaden access to quality healthcare and humanitarian assistance. CGI typifies selfless service!

This nonprofit is unique in its World View of helping. I have supported its efforts from the beginning as a leader in making change for all humanity. If there is one lesson from the pandemic that we should keep close to our hearts it is how much we are one global community and CGI is our mentor, our role model and leader in the consciousness of helping our fellow man no matter how far away from home.
What makes me feel best about supporting this non-profit is the organic feel of the organization... the whole effort of what they do, how they approach their work, the look of their site is earthy and organic. There is no fluff, no salesmanship, it is direct, good work for a critical need(s).
Yellowbrick Foundation has been a financial and emotional supporter of the Center for Global Initiatives since inception. Chris Stout is a visionary with energy and talent which he tirelessly applies on behalf of supporting health reform and care in developing areas throughout the world. CGI is fiscally responsible and merits our support.
CGI was and still is way out in front of supporting initiatives which not only improve health but transform lives around the world. CGI has visionary, deeply informed and committed leadership acting with integrity and having the executive skills to implement change and make a true difference.
The Center for Global Initiatives is a visionary organization meriting the support of all those who seek to Heal the World. CGI is trustworthy and has its eye on those world health issues that concern us all.
I have complete confidence in the integrity of the leadership of The Center for Global Initiatives and am fully inspired by their mission. CGI takes to heart the wisdom of our sages that "We may not be obligated to complete the task but we are never exempt from doing our part". CGI is a model of collaborative effort focused on the actionable, small changes that can truly transform the lives of others.
CGI has trulty committed and capable leadership in Dr. Stout. All donated funds go to the mission rather than administrative expenses due to the dedication of volunteer contributions. The mission is so desperately needed.

As a for profit organization with a social mission to make healthcare affordable and accessible worldwide, we actively search for "best in class" innovation and service. The Center for Global Initiatives meets or exceeds all criteria for global best in class. I am particularly impressed by the leadership of the Center for Global Initiatives, Dr. Chris Stout. Professional prepared resource materials, easy access information and welcoming collaborative contact to all that enter the web site for the Center for Global Initiatives. I have a few of the publications and have used it with project planning and my writing work. Outstanding organization!
The Center for Global Initiatives takes likeminded individuals from various fields and brings them together for one purpose - improving the healthcare of the world.
Global Initiative is tireless in it's efforts to promote healing services in some of the most needy regions of the world, and is an exemplar of the new model of collaboration and information sharing with other NGOs to promote a more concerted response to humanitarian crises.
I have followed the commitment and humanitarian work of Dr. Chris Stout and CGI for a number of years, and have always been impressed and deeply appreciative of the hands-on, practical benefit it has obviously brought to communities in great need, and particularly to those with limited or in some cases no options. The compassion that underlies these efforts is palatable. This is the caliber of healing work - by dedicated and highly effective professionals directing their expertise toward improving the human condition one concrete step at a time - that deserves acknowledgment and support whenever the opportunity arises.
