Center for Family Services is the top notch non-profit in New Jersey to get involved with. They offer a variety of localized services to a wide span of folks in need. I started with CFS as a volunteer in Quixote Quest, a teen volunteer organization that has built long term relationships with CFS and partner non-profits to provide teens who are interested in serving the community the opportunity of a lifetime. Teens are usually not trusted, but due to the requirements for joining QQ, these teens are able to truly serve, and they are supported by amazing QQ leaders who support the volunteers reflections and innovative ideas to better serve the community.
CFS is a humble organization that works with the community to support children, women, survivors of domestic violence, the community of Camden, and more. I have been lucky to be involved with SERV, Operation Backpack, the Holiday Gift Drive, and other programs. I am always impressed and know others will be too!
I've been with the Center for Family Service program, Quixote Quest, for two years now and I can state with great confidence that choosing to volunteer here was the best decision I ever made.
My fellow teenage volunteers and I go into Camden every Saturday to tutor and mentor children from the area. The kids are so inspiring and I love them like my own siblings. Every volunteer is matched with a child to create a special bond to ensure the child feels comfortable and loved during their time with us. We provide lunch every Saturday and give them books to keep.
We take group trips to parks, the movies, to trampoline parks, and many other places. Watching my mentee grasp the concept of long division and seeing her face light up with a smile as she looks up at me is the best thing anyone could ask for. It is truly an honor to create a safe, happy environment for these children and to know that you are making a difference in their lives.
Quixote Quest is a wonderful program that changes lives everyday and it was made possible by the great people at Center for Family Services.
I have volunteered with Center For Family Services in many different capacities. Mainly I've served at the organization as an AmeriCorps VISTA member for two years. During my first year of volunteer service, I was taken back by how friendly and dedicated the staff were that I decided to sign on for another.
During this long term service opportunity I also took advantage of Center For Family Services Born to Read program. This was a weekly volunteer opportunity where I would go into one of our Head Start classrooms and read one on one with a child. This experience was always a high point of my week. The kids are adorable and excited to have a new face in the classroom, especially someone who wants to give them each one on one time. Literacy is important to me and I love that the Born to Read Program encourages reading starting at such a young age. The program also encourages parents to read at home with their little ones and gives them some educational material explaining the importance of literacy.
Through Center For Family Services I also volunteered two years in a row at their annual holiday gift drive. This is always a fun way to give back during the holidays!
If you are looking for ways to give back, Center For Family Services has many different opportunities for one time or long term volunteers and a variety of different ways to get involved. Volunteering here is a decision you won't regret!
The Center for Family Services is an outstanding organization. As a health care professional and educator I have been very impressed with their programs. Their emphasis on prevention and education resonates with me. I started to volunteering for the Reading Blitz at the CFS when I relocated to southern NJ about a year and a half ago. I am very impressed with the program and what it means to the students. If you enjoy kids, this is a great experience! I met Eileen Henderson, the Vice President of Child and Family Services at my first Reading Blitz session and she told me about the various programs. I joined the Board of the Family Connect program as a community member and volunteer. I have seen firsthand the commitment of the board and the CFS staff to the children and families in this program. I am proud to be a part of it.
I have been a board member for 22 years (includes pre-merger service) and have witnessed tremendous growth in both budget and stature in South Jersey, especiallly among funding sources. We have established a reputation among funding sources as a reliable alternative when other agencies falter. This began several years ago when another agency, now defunct, had lost its grasnt to provide counselling services for rape victims. We were asked by a state funding agency to step up and deliver the service. We did and have been doing a terrific job through our SERV program ever scince. It has been followed by a number of "mayday" calls we have received from state agencies since then. Like many agencies, we believe in providing help out of philosophical commitment, but we stand out because we couple that with a sound business model. Ken Shuttleworth
In my capacity as the Director of the local Volunteer Center my experience with the staff and volunteers at the CFFS has always been very positive. They are truly commited to serving their clients while integrating community volunteers into their programs whenever it is professionally responsible to do so. I could recommend CFFS to potential volunteers with confidence that they would have a rewarding experience. Since my retirement two years ago, several friends and I have worked with the Domestic Violence Center organizing and maintainining donations of goods from the community. The staff has always been welcoming and appreciative of our work.
This is a great organization, I have been working wiyh them for about 6 years and they are top notch. Keep up all the great work you guys do for the community.
The Executive Staff and management continue to impress with their dedication and commitment to their clients. They live the mission and work tirelessly to heal families and provide the comprehensive services required to re-establish them as productive members of the community. They create a very human and safe environment for those in need and who are most vulnerable. It is an honor to be part of such a wonderful organization.
As a Board member of the Center for Family Services, I am continually impressed by the number and quality of service programs provided to people in need by the agency. CFS, a leading social service agency in South Jersey, is on the cutting edge of responding to need. The latest venture into development of low-income housing (which has been a crying need for years) is an example.
I have been working with SERV for the past five years along with our Women's Club in trying to provide some holiday cheer to those families suffering from domestic violence. The Residential Coordinator, Mary Love, has been professional, courteous, grateful and extremely informative, yet very confidentiality conscious regarding the mission of SERV. It is truly heartwarming to understand the comfort, education, housing and guidance they provide to their clients. SERV certainly deserves to win a "Top-Rated Children and Families Award".
I have worked with the Center for Family Services for many years and have always been impressed with their professionalism and caring for the youth and families they serve. They have a dedicated staff who go above and beyond to help the families access treatment and will work with those who are in danger of "falling through the cracks" to provide services in difficult situations. I trust and highly recommend this agency as an outstanding care provider of therapeutic services in our community.
I have been working with Services Empowering the Rights of Victims (SERV, part of CFFS) for over 6 years. Center for People in Transition services displaced homemakers and many of them are victims of domestic violence. The Center has a MOU with SERV and the interaction between the two agencies is so effective in helping both of our clients. Our clients speak very highly of SERV's services, staff and facilities. I have also worked very closely with the Sexual Violence Coalition and once again I have been most impressed with the motivation, commitment and efficiency of the individuals working within this part of CFFS. They are highly driven to stop and PREVENT this type of violence.
I have been donating to the Center for Family Services for several years. I will be retiring in a few weeks and believe so strongly in this organization that I plan to volunteer my time to assist with many of the very valuable programs that they offer. The people that have been helped and the children that have achieved success due to this organization make it one of the most rewarding opportunities for me.
Center for Family Services has created a very bright future for me. Having been through three of their safe housing/ residential programs I can't imagine myself being any where else. Their staff love and care for the clients as is they were their own kids. The dedication to help someone to succeed in life is definitely one of the great qualiies of the organization. Without CFS I dont know where I would be in life.
My employer and I have been involved with the Center for Family Serives for a few years. I have primarily dealt with the Center as a volunteer for the Reading Blitz with Camden Cooper Lanning Promise Neighborhood initiative and with Operation Back Pack. Both events have always been so well organized and very professional. It has been a pleasure to work with the CFS staff during the reading blitzes and Operation Backpack and I look forward to a continued partnership with the Center.
I worked with CFS because my son was required to complete communiy service hours for school. But when working with the group I was impressed at the level of professionalism and the number of activities the organzation provides for people in need. I've decided to continue my service with CFS as a long term volunteer. I want to say thank you thank you for being their for te community it is wonderful to see organizations that really care. Thank You Kimberly D.
McKernan Architects has had a professional relationship with Center for Family Services for several years. We have never come across an organization with so much dedication, committment and compassion for those to whom they serve. Everyone in this organization is top notch. Center for Family Services continues to shine and inspire. We wish them all the best and will continue to support their cause.
Center For Family Services provides opportunities for volunteers to make a real difference in the lives of others. They encourage and support the volunteer to maximize the experience. It is always a pleasure to return.
I started volunteering for the Reading Blitz Program after I attended a mentoring training session with the Center for Family Services. The program is very important for the children but the reward I received as a volunteer is priceless. I look forward to participating again the the fall.
I have had the pleasure of working with the Center for Family Services since 2005. Our generous employees participate in a variety of fundraising activities and make donations to support the various programs within CFS. Some of the programs we’ve supported include the Denim Days, Operation Backpack, Holiday Gift Project, Easter Baskets and Coat Drive. We are also proud to have partnered with CFS through the creation of our Wyanoke Group Children’s Support Fund which provides much needed assistance to those who have suffered great hardship by providing essential items and enriching activities to children and families in need.
