Causes: Ethnic & Immigrant Centers, Human Services, Immigration

Mission: The purpose of the organization is twofold: first, to provide educational materials for immigrants and refugees to help them become productive, healthly and law-abiding members of our society. Second, to provide educational materials to the general public to promote tolerance, peaceful conflict resolution, and nonviolence in a variety of arenas, including family relations, inter-racial relations, and international relations.

Programs: During 2010, the center for educational programming accomplished the following: 1. Latino farm worker safety educational dvd presentation for utah labor commission. Center for educational programming continued research, interviewing and filming for production of an educational spanish-language dvd. The purpose is to educate utah hispanic/latino farm workers about safe procedures, thereby contributing to a reduction in workplace injuries. The program will be distributed by the utah labor commission, given free to utah organizations that serve the hispanic/latino community, and broadcast statewide over the airwaves and over the internet through utah educational network. Approximately 10,000 people will be directly beneifted by this project. 2. Collaboration with utah science center. Center for educational programming engaged in brief consulting and collaboration with the utah science center (a nonprofit organization) providing the utah science center with suggestions and contacts for expanding its work in science education and injury prevention to utah's hispanic/latino community. 3. Center for educational programming expanded its operations to the state of washington, and made contacts with agencies and organizations that provide services to immigrants and refugees in washington. - cep developed a relationship with consejo counseling and referral services of seattle, a nonprofit organization that provides counseling and support services in domestic violence and related problem areas to low-income latino immigrants. - cep developed a similar relationship with kitsap immigrant assistance center, a nonprofit organization in bremerton, washington, deducated to helping immigrants and coordinating the services of organizations that help immigrants. Cep donated spanish-language dvds on nonviolent parenting and legal issues to kiac. -cep was contacted by a producer working on a film to promote peace in the middle east. The producer asked cep to coordinate the educational outreach for the film and create interactive educational classroom materials to accompany the film when showed to high school and college classes. Cep had discussions with the producer and wrote a brief proposal for its part in the project. This was tentative, based on funding. -cep donated 65 to, and the executive director attended, the kitsap county human rights conference in bremerton, washington in december 2010.
