The Center for Children is dedicated to providing the best mental health services in Southern Maryland. The Director and staff go out of their way to assist those most in need. From fund raisers that provide monies for the center to parties for the children, the center leaves no stones unturned.
The Center For Children has an array of mental health programs/services available to our Chales County community. Some of the services provided are Therapeutic, Supervised Visitation, Healthy Families, Functional Family Therapy, Adolescent Psychiatric Rehab (PRP), Connections Case Management and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) The Center is also Parent to the Family Resource Center. The Family Resource Center is located in a great location, at the St. Charles Mall in Waldorf. This makes providing services to residents of Charles County more available and accessable via public transportation. At the Family Resource Center there is a Systems Navigator and Family Navigator. They provide linkage of resources and referrals to the Youth and Familes in Charles County, MD community. The Family Navigator specializes in working with youth and familes that have special needs or a disability. At each location of the Center For Children Offices within the Tri-Counties(St. Mary, Charles, Calvert and Anne Arundel) the hours are flexible for working parents and students who need appointments for evenings, Saturday or afterschool. The staff are skilled and knowledgable in their profession and atmosphere in each location is always welcoming. The work being done at Center For Children is not only good but efffective. Anybody can be good but not everyone is effective.
I have been volunteering for the Center for Children in some way for over 15 years.
Sometimes the Center is the only voice of reason that these Children have.
We help Children in so many ways ones that have been abused in many ways, The young girl that has become pregrent while in school we help her return to school and teach her how to be a good mother to this child.
The child that has a parent getting released from jail become a family again. We also help the family unit as a hole reconnect and start growing in a healthy way. Southern Maryland is a better place just haveing the Center For Children Inc. serving it's children.
R. is an 8 year old girl who came to Center for Children for selective mutism. She came when she was 6 years old and was not talking to anyone but in her immediate family. After a year in treatment she was talking in full sentences and had begun talking to extended family members. By the second year she was reading to her teachers, talking to all the teachers in the school, talking in the waiting room in front of other people. She is just begining to talk to her peers. Without the help of the Center for Children, she would not have come this far to overcome her anxiety to talk to people. She still has a ways to go, but she has come a long way since she first started coming.
This is an amazing organization providing a critical service to a region that desparately needs it. What else can you say?!? Providing mental health care to abused children and families, CfC has weathered a storm of state funding cuts and apathetic politicians while continuing to make hard decisions that have enabled them to continue providing leading-edge recognized services. At every turn the staff makes decisions based on the new realities they are presented, all the while keeping the consumers at the forefront. That they have done this in the midst of huge financial pressures is a credit to their leadership and training.
Center for Children is a valuable resource for members of the community. This is a Mental Health provider who offers therapy services, psychiatric services, Family Functional Therapy, Case Management, Healthy Families, CASA, Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Supervised Visitation.
