As a life-long consultant, I enjoy working with client and colleague teams to understand problems and develop recommendations. So, as I looked around for opportunities to give-back to the Atlanta community, I found an opportunity posted through my alumni group to consult to nonprofits.
Community Consulting Teams of Atlanta (CCT) was founded in 1995. I worked as a volunteer on my first client project in 2018, followed by a project lead role in my second engagement. I then joined CCT's working board, where I continue to leverage my impact.
What I appreciate most is working with volunteers who are excited to work with enthusiastic and passionate clients. The organization is composed of 100% volunteers providing general management consulting support to Atlanta nonprofits on a pro bono basis. Volunteers get to choose which clients they would like to work with for about 10-12 week engagements in the Spring (completed by Memorial Day) or Fall (completed by Thanksgiving).
When I think about my decision to volunteer, leveraging my personal skills and experience was the best decision I have made. And, I continue to look forward to stretching my experience a bit with each session of projects.
I began serving with CCT -Atlanta in 2011, I spent several seasons working as a volunteer, then a team lead, then I was a Director for a short period of time before taking over as president for two years. This organization provides so much to the communities it serves and the volunteers themselves. If you want to give back in a meaningful way without getting poison ivy, rehabbing a trail or cleaning up a park (all of which are fine btw). This will let you use the gifts you get paid for everyday to be a force multiplier for non profits and help them serve people in need in all walks of life.
I volunteered with CCT Atlanta in 2022 and had the opportunity to work with a nonprofit on a business case. The project involved helping them avoid selling one of their assets and instead transform it into something profitable while analyzing their overall financials.
It was an incredible experience. Seeing the impact of our work and helping such a great nonprofit find a better path forward was truly rewarding. The CCT team was supportive, organized, and brought together talented people who care about making a difference.
If you’re looking for a way to give back while using your professional skills, CCT Atlanta is the place to do it.
