Hello!
I’m one of about seven regular volunteers ― all unpaid ― at the “History House” (Cayuga-Owasco Lakes Historical Society) in Moravia. Located at 14 West Cayuga Street, our 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization was started in 1966 to serve towns between the lakes and south of Auburn in Cayuga County. Fond memories of the people, places and things that most of us grew up with inspire us to collect, preserve, exhibit and research artifacts and information that document our area's history and heritage, in order to educate, inspire and expand our sense of community through an understanding of our area's past and its place in American history.
Besides local artifacts on display, our two-story building includes a small museum presenting information and belongings of the 13th president of the United States of America, Millard Fillmore, who was born in the Moravia, New York area. Members receive our quarterly newsletter, a discount at our gift shop and genealogical research of our family files is available for a small fee. While winter hours may vary, we're usually open for visitors from 9:30 to noonish on Saturday and Monday mornings (315-497-3906), with plans to include Thursdays soon. Please visit our Facebook site (https://www.facebook.com/colhs) and consider becoming a member today!
