Mission: Love & Cuddles Pet Respite Care program provides short-term foster care to serve the elderly, disabled, and disadvantaged. We keep pets out of shelters when the owners are hospitalized. We partner with community service agencies to keep dogs and cats with their family and reduce the burden on local shelters.
Catnip Casa Cat Refuge provides extensive rehab or lifelong pawspice care to cats when age, disease, or disabilities do not allow them to remain in their home or community due to medical and/or behavioral challenges.
We educate owners, caregivers, professionals, and the public, about caring for cats with challenges caused by age, disease, disabilities, or terminal illness. We also strive to develop a network of persons, services, foster homes, and resources, that benefit the community by keeping pets out of shelters. We mentor trappers and actively support TNR (trap/neuter/release) for community cats.
Results: We are a young organization going into our second year. Our board and management bring a total of over 50 years of rescue experience to the organization. The work done prior to 2015 was volunteer work by individuals and has been consistent for over eight years. It was this consistency and dedication that led us to move forward with the strength of a board and a mission designed to make a permanent impact.
Target demographics: keeps pets with their owners and care for special needs and senior cats
Direct beneficiaries per year: 13 long-term/rehab cats, 70 community cats, 3 other rescue organizations
Geographic areas served: pet respite care and animal rescue and rehabilitation
Programs: extensive rehab or lifelong pawspice care due to age, disease, or disabilities that do not allow cats to remain in their home or community due to medical and/or behavioral challenges. We actively support TNR. We also run Love & Cuddles Pet Respite Care to offer respite care for pets of seniors, disabled, and disadvantaged persons who must be hospitalized. The purpose is to keep owned pets out of shelters and in their homes until the owner is able to return.
Catnip Casa is a wonderful, loving facility. I left my elderly, special needs cat in the respite care program for a week in June. Penny closely observed Dove's behavior, needs and responses to her environment. After a couple days when she seemed to not respond well in the room where she was initially placed, they quickly moved her to another location where she quickly became alert and happy in a safe place. I am very grateful for Catnip Casa, and to know that any animal placed there will have the best of care in a wonderful environment with the most loving, competent caretakers. Thank you so much Penny and Michael.

Catnip Casa and their Love and Cuddles Respite Foster Care program has been a wonderful resource for the elderly and disabled clients with whom I work in Austin. I work at Meals on Wheels Central Texas and when our clients need medical care, they will often refuse care for themselves if they don't have a safe, loving place for their pets to go while they are away. Catnip Casa has helped up with foster care for cats and even a small dog. The care they provide the pets is top notch and the relief that the clients feel knowing their pets are safe and loved, is priceless. Thank you Catnip Casa for providing such a wonderful program. It is very much needed and appreciated!
