Causes: Education
Mission: To improve children's health worldwide by developing, disseminating and sustaining the catch platform in collaboration with researchers at uthealth.
Programs: Coordinated school health & wellness. In 2016, catch global foundation brought the catch coordinated school health program to 400 new elementary and middle schools serving approximately 120,000 students aged 6 to 14. Service projects focused on economically distressed urban and rural areas including ysleta isd in texas (funded by a grant from blue cross blue shield of texas), guymon in oklahoma (funded by a grant from blue cross blue shield of oklahoma), jefferson parish in louisiana (funded by a grant from humana foundation), and several counties of upstate new york (funded by snap-ed). Catch global foundation also provided support, evaluation assistance and technical assistance to schools around the country who were expanding or sustaining the catch coordinated school health program. In total catch's programs now reach over 2 million school-age children each year.
out-of-school programs. In 2016, catch global foundation brought the catch pre-school and after-school programs to 425 new out-of-school sites serving approximately 35,000 students aged 3 to 12. Service projects included training and implementing catch in miami-dade county early learning sites, several areas of colorado (funded by a grant from buell foundation), and just kids sites in new jersey. Catch global foundation also provided support, evaluation assistance and technical assistance to out-of-school sites around the country who were expanding or sustaining the catch out-of-school programs.
sun safety - in 2016, catch expanded its sun safety education to children ages 3-7 using ray and the sunbeatables , developed by the university of texas md anderson cancer center, reaching 575 new sites serving approximately 65,000 children during the year. We also created online training for the program.
tobacco & nicotine prevention - in 2016, catch launched the catch my breath youth e-cigarette prevention program for middle schoolers aged 11-14. The program is designed to increase knowledge of the health dangers of e-cigarettes, form healthy attitudes towards and reduce intentions to try the products, and reverse the growth rate of youth use of e-cigarettes. Catch my breath was used in 75 schools and reached approximately 10,000 students during 2016.
