Amazing organization that offer 51 years of I have a Cassie, education and community ride events. Cascade is more than your average bike club. Cascade is the nations largest cycling organization.
Cascade Bicycle Club might be best known for its iconic Seattle-to-Portland (STP) ride. However, Cascade's programs in education and advocacy, along with community rides and events all work toward Cascade's mission of bringing people together to experience the joy of bicycling. I first started volunteering 10 years ago as a ride leader with the Major Taylor Project (MTP), Cascade's after school bike clubs for students. I thought, "What a great way to get kids on bikes." After the first few weeks, I realized that the bikes were only a tool to help students build confidence and leadership skills, and discover their power to effect change. Cascade touches so many lives throughout the state. It's an honor to support this organization.
Our family has been a contributor to Cascade for years. We have participated in rides, advocacy events, and other programs, which have always been great experiences. For us, the Club leads through action; if we are to bring about the just, climate-smart, healthy society we all want, we need to make a transportation system that reflects those goals. With Cascade, that system has advanced forward, winning constituents, members and elected officials to their cause.
For me, it's not about the major rides that Cascade puts on like Seattle to Portland (STP) and Ride to Vancouver and Party (RSVP). I support Cascade because they are always looking for ways to use bikes for positive social change. They look to bring the community together around the joy of cycling. I am especially moved by their new social program that arose during the pandemic - the Pedaling Relief Project - as well as those that have been present in the community for much longer - like the Major Taylor Project. Keep up the great work, Cascade!
Since I moved to Washington, I’ve been so impressed by Cascade’s extensive reach and incredible work. From organizing once in a lifetime events to advocating for safer streets to teaching tens of thousand of children how to ride a bike safely, Cascade is one of the key reasons that Washington is the most bike friendly state in the country. Cascade’s staff and volunteers are all so hardworking and passionate. I’m proud to be a long time donor, volunteer, and board member.
