Volunteering Oportunities

Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Civil Rights

Mission: CASA of Los Angeles mobilizes community volunteers to advocate for children who have experienced abuse and neglect. There are over 30,000 children and youth in LA County’s child welfare system. Many have been removed from their homes and find themselves in the complicated world of foster care. Without the proper support, less than half of these children will finish high school and a significant number will end up homeless or incarcerated. These children need the support of community members like you.

I went through the long courses dedicated my time to be a volunteer. After completing my courses and doing all of my steps to be on the list, my phone number changed. I then received an email from my CASA representative saying they could not reach me and I was being removed. I call back right away to explain my phone number had changed and I did update the database & they could have simply reached out via email as they did and I would have gotten back in touch. My CASA rep then said it’s too late I have to be removed because i couldn’t be reached by phone. I dedicated so much time and effort to go through those classes and graduate and receive a certificate just to get dismissed like nothing. As though I didn’t matter nor have a say. Extremely disappointed in the program
