I began my experiences at Carpenters Place; unfortunately through a court required public service. God moves in mysterious ways they say. and through this action I have discovered the true meaning of human empathy and caring. the staff and residents I have interacted with are amazing individuals and inspiring. I have vowed a life long commitment to this organization above and beyond what was originally required. I urge all who can volunteer or donate to please do so in what ever you can afford to do. This group is truly pure of heart.
I volunteered at Carpenter"s place in Rockford. Although it was only a few times I found it a rewarding experience. I found them to be a loving caring, patient to all who entered their facility. I have since added Carpenter"s place to one of my charities that are really making a difference in people"s lives and renews their soul.We need more places in Rockford to reach out to those less fortunate.Thank you Carpenter's place!
Sincerely John Meyers
I have been a volunteer at The Carpenter's Place for about 10 years. I do data entry and help with the various fund raising efforts. This is an excellent organization that helps their guests find jobs, housing, health care, etc. They also provide laundry, meals, personal care items, clothing, shoes, as well as counseling and computer training, in addition to the breakfast and lunch meals. There is chapel and an art room, as well as other areas of support. These services are not a hand out - they are a hand up. Some of the guests help with the housekeeping chores. The personnel are loving, caring and supportive.
There is not a lot of need for my services as a over all fix-it man but I am pleased to offer my years of experience in the building trades when I'm asked. ll the staff I've dealt with have been super nice and friendly which I would expect from fellow Christians. I appreciate that they help those with needs that due to circumstances in life that makes survival hard without help.
I'm only called maybe once a month but I'm pleased to help a group of people who who dedicate their lives to doing Christ has called them to do. God Bless Carpenters Place. Clyde
I volunteered here as an art teacher for a few months last summer & loved it. This organization has progressive goals & tactics to make life changing differences for people. Getting to know the regulars & learning about their lives was therapeutic for all of us. It was a fun & positive experience I'll never forget.
I am very impressed by how they run their program. I have volunteered a number of times providing and serving food to the client's. They go out of the way to help but making sure the client's are equipped with the skills they need so they do not become dependent. They truly give a HAND UP NOT A HAND OUT.
I volunteered here full time during the summer of 2006. I worked in the kitchen, assisting in serving lunch to the guests. The staff was dedicated and friendly, and the guests were a joy to serve. The best part of the summer ending was seeing almost all new faces in the line--after three months, most of the "regulars" had moved on and found housing and/or jobs. The Carpenter's Place is making a real difference in downtown Rockford.
