My experience working with the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue has been a pleasantly unexpected one. Unexpected, because I’d been searching for snakes to adopt, not waterfowl!
That said, working with the CWR has been a fantastic experience. Their staff are passionate, knowledgeable and dedicated to all animals in need. Take it from me, I adopted a snake from a waterfowl rescue. :)
Looking forward to working with the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue again soon.
This rescue and the authorities illegally confiscated my animals when my goat attacked me. South Carolina is a right to protect state. That so called rescue told a lot of lies on fb about me and the injuries they caused, made worse. One of my baby goats some how tore her horn almost off her head when i was at work. That rescue said i beat her. That is a lie. I only used a shovel to protect myself and try to keep my billy away from me bc that was all i had to protect myself. There were no vets available july 4th weekend to get Cybil seen. I called a vet and all the other vets posted they were booked or closed on fb. I was trimming hooves the weekend they arrested me when I was attacked by my billy. My billy had attacked me a number of times and tried to break bones. If you have negative things to say to attack more, when you have never been targeted by a male animal. I have had a hip dislocated or pop out of joint by another billy. I have a scar in my ear from a castrated billy when I was trimming hooves and almost had my nose broken by another castrated billy. If you have negative things to say don't. The authorities harmed my animals and blamed me knowing that I had a camera on the front of my home. I have got more cameras since. I tried a hose, spray bottle to correct Ladd. I only had a shovel this time and as my vet said, sometimes you have to use the only thing available.
That cousin is talking to that cop about the lawsuit that they lost in civil court, trying to bully me bc they want my place. Then Donald Black is the person ( not related) who inherited the other cousins place. When my grandmother passed, they went round telling people that they were entitled to my property and home when it was in my grandmothers name not theirs. A old Native American custom is to have animals that you hold sacred like my first nanny goat and one goat that died on my birthday in my home like they did in the meeting house. The cops are unprofessional. They have no right making fun of my home, my living history hobby of volunteering at historic sites, the fact that I don't have cable. It is none of their business were I sleep in my home. I had just done laundry that day and didn't put the clean sheets back on yet.
This is one of my baby goats that they lied that my dog bite. There is no injury on her hind back front leg in the pictures on the day that they stole my animals or videos. That injury i.e. abscess came from something that happened in their lack of care with ac, the police and that rescue.
There were no vets at my home that night that my animals were stolen. How do they know that Mary's injury came from one of my dogs that were never allowed around my livestock without supervision. That injury came from something that happened on that trailer. I have detailed reports from their vet and nothing about absolutely from a dog. He said it looked like a dog bit. Goats can also bit or another incident from that trailer. None of their vet reports say anything about my goats having ear mites till months later. Yet Jennifer Gordon blames others when these injuries to MY ANIMALS are FROM HER NEGLECT. The man that sheared my sheep, cut Bethany Sue or Mischief per their vets orders to shear them when they only had 3 months growth on them. If it was a old injury from before my animals were stolen, it could not have been stitched. MORE LIES. All this will come out in court soon.
Research needs to be done before falsely attacking a innocent women that has been stalked and harrassed for 20 plus years bc they were greedy for her home and land. She never hit any of her animals unless attack like she was that day by the billy goat. JG is a animal abuser and liar. She stood there doing nothing when a cop pinned a baby goat to the ground. She told the police to leave that poor women's animals on that truck and trailer the rest of the night after they chased them, stressed the animals, left them in overcrowded conditions without water or ventilation. That is how more injuries to this women's poor animals happened. They knew that she had a camera on her home which caught crimes committed by the authorities and that bird not livestock rescue.
This rescue is the best I've ever encountered. I've adopted several animals from CWR after they rescued them from neglect, cruelty, and/or abandonment. They truly go above and way beyond in helping ALL animals (spiders, toads, and even venomous snakes) who have been injured. A few years ago they hosted a two-day training session for beginning wildlife rehabbers, which I attended, and it was excellent. I'm about 4 1/2 hours east of them, but when I was contacted about a Canada goose with a broken wing near me, their Executive Director encouraged me to catch him and even sent me a video they had made of one of their volunteers catching a goose. With their encouragement and advice, I was able to catch the goose and get him the help he needed to heal. Thi photo is Grey Pants with his hens. CWR saved him during a cockfighting raid a few years ago, along with lots of other roosters, and he lives here in peace.
I’m a donor and live in Missouri. I love CWR for many reasons. The education I have received is wonderful. It has helped me to appreciate our wildlife and what I can do when I encounter a wounded animal. If I lived closer I would be an on-site volunteer!
Excellent rescue that has helped so many animals in need. Offers refuge for animals during hurricanes. One of the most caring group of people I have ever met. This is the first rescue my husband has ever volunteered for and believe me when I say that means a lot. These are just 2 of the many he has caught.
I was at a drive thru around 8pm and noticed a small bird hopping around on the ground near the window where you pay. I knew there was a problem because it was too dark out for it to be just walking around and also it wasn't moving away from the cars. It appeared to be injured bc when I approached it tried to fly away but couldn't. To make a long story short I took the bird home with me for the night. I contacted Carolina waterfowl the next morning and they responded to me immediately and instructed me to bring the bird to them. I did so and they took care of the bird from the second I pulled in their driveway. They're caring, they're professional and I don't know what I would have done with that little bird if Carolina waterfowl was not available for their very compassionate and important services.
As a volunteer transporter for Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, I've seen enough first hand to know how much they help the wildlife in our area. They are one of the only waterfowl rescues in NC and the work they do is phenomenal. It is truly incredible the number of birds, and other wildlife, that they take in and rehabilitate every day. Our ecosystem must be grateful for them!
If ever there was a rescue that epitomizes rescuing, it's Carolina Waterfowl Rescue. They rescue a wide range of animals, not just waterfowl. Just recently they rescued over 300 swifts that were disturbed during the night and flew into the NASCAR Hall of Fame building in Charlotte, NC. Although it was in the middle of the night, CWR responded immediately to pick up all the birds, sort them, feed them, and begin healing those that were injured. CWR's dedication to helping animals is astounding.
Carolina Waterfowl Rescue is such a wonderful nonprofit. Not only do they take in waterfowl, but they never turn an animal in need away. If they can’t help it, they’re sent to the appropriate rescue to be taken care of.
Great organization. Doing great work. Their work is much needed as no one can work with injured waterfowl without a permit.
Amazing staff who put the animals before themselves. A good community of people and well taken care of animals.
I initially went to CWR after finding a house finch in my neighborhood that was ill and needed help. I decided after that visit that I wanted to volunteer my time and now I have a regular Sunday morning shift. It is hard work and every person, including other volunteers, shift leads and wildlife rehabilitators that I've met have all been super dedicated and hard working. The animals come first and nothing is turned away. Quite an amazing place and I'm proud to volunteer.
A great group of kind and caring people helping a large variety of animals , not just waterfowl. Keep up the good work!
I am so very lucky to get to volunteer at this place. I can see how passionate they are to save lives of animals!
The most caring people I have ever met. This rescue goes above and beyond to help the most amount of animals possible and I’m proud to be involved with them.
I volunteer, donate and have adopted from CWR... such a great group of people who help so many animals!
This rescue exceeds all my expectations. Myself and another volunteer in my area answer calls for injured waterfowl in my area. Once the injured waterfowl is captured, it is taken to the rescue. Someone is always there to take care of the injuries. There have been times when I didn't think the waterfowl would make it but the rescue always knew what to do.
Carolina Waterfowl Rescue is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating ducks and geese of all kinds as well as other waterfowl birds. They take in all avian species and transfer them to the correct rehabilitation facility. I have volunteered with them for almost a year and I'm very impressed by our director's leadership and care for the birds. The birds come first and she is often working at the rescue until 1 or 2 am. i am proud to be a part of this wonderful organization and the group of volunteers who support it.
I happened to see an ad posted in the local county paper for volunteers needed. I responded and began helping the very next week. What an eye opening experience it has been. I had no idea what it takes to keep this operation going and solely on volunteers! I have learned so much about all different types of birds and enjoy the people who give of their time to help. I have brought my 2 daughters to help and they want to come back again. It is a very rewarding experience to help our feathered friends.
I started volunteering with CWR a little over a year ago. It's excellent because you can get as little or much involved as you want. Most animal charities focus on cats and dogs, CWR offers something a little different because it takes in birds of all sorts (excluding raptors) and gives them a home until they are ready to be released to the wild or adopted out (or alternatively stay with the rescue if neither of those options are available.)
Completely volunteer run and a non-profit, this is definitely a charity worth working with.

I discovered CWR on an online volunteer matching site and joined because it sounded interesting. And it is. And also exceptionally organized when you consider it is 100% volunteer run. In fact, it's more organized than some places that I've volunteered at that had paid volunteer coordinators.
And I think that's because everybody wants to be there. They're doing it out of the goodness of their hearts rather than to get a paycheck. And the cause they have is a great one. You see a goose at the side of the road and you don't necessarily think about what happens to that goose later on. CWR does. Whether it is injured by traffic, hunting season, or any other of the myriad reasons a goose can get hurt, CWR takes it in, fixes it up, and then frees it if it is able to survive on its own. And that's the ultimate goal. But if it won't be ok in the wild, then CWR doesn't make it leave.
This is a great place to volunteer and the animals (and people) are a pleasure to work with. I'm glad I was able to find this opportunity.
This is an incredible rescue not only dedicated to helping birds of all kinds, but assisting all animals that come here reach someone who can give them proper care.
I have been a volunteer with CWR for about 3 years now and every year we get busier and busier. We are an all volunteer organization that relies on funding from our donors and grants, which we use to help thousands of birds per year, both wild and domestic. We help not only the sick and the injured, but the unloved, unwanted and misunderstood. We now have people reaching out to us for help from all over the United States, and also other countries on occasion. We try to help everyone and everything we possibly can. I don't know of any other rescue or organization that can say the same.
I have worked with CWR for several years now. It is a lot of fun and always something new and unique. They do not turn down any animal. They take in and care for rabbits, cows, dogs, etc. They are well connected to other rescues for these animals. CWR has grown and prospered. It is a very well organized rescue.
Great people doing great things for animals. They specialize in birds but help all types of animals.
This is a rescue run entirely by volunteers and donations. Everyone here works only for their love of animals. Its a great place where no animals are turned away.
What an amazing group of volunteers. I wish I had more time to help out - but every time I am there I am amazed by how hard they work and how much they are able to accomplish - all for the birds!!!
I have volunteered at CWR for five years and have been amazed at the quality of care that all the birds receive. This is truly a "No Bird Left Behind" organization, and every attempt is made to return them to the wild when possible. Those that are not releasable become part of our "family" and live in comfort and safety, thanks to the care provided by a very dedicated group of volunteers.
This rescue is truly a godsend. The animals are treated with compassion & kindness. This world we live in can be cruel, but Carolina Waterfowl Rescue is a bright spot - where everyone involved is dedicated and works hard to help the lives of any creature they encounter.
This non profit is run entirely by volunteers and helps thousands of needy animals each year. They recieve no funding and operate on donations and grass roits efforts. We work hard but have fun and love being around the animals.
This is a great rescue group. There is a small core of regular volunteers that cares for all the animals daily (feeding, watering, moving, medical, general well being, etc.) . Then there is a small regular crew of volunteers that help take care of the physical maintenance needs and repairs for the rescue and then frequent and various other volunteers that do what is needed. The animals are great but the volunteers keep it running. If this group didn't do this service, the animals would suffer. It is a great organization that deservers your time and money.....every little bit of both, or more, helps.
Very knowledgable, dedicated group of individuals who serve the often overlooked feathered friends. This group is all volunteer who's only priority is the health and we'll being of the animals. Don't always agree but never question the motives. Additionally, it has been, and is an educational experience for myself. Well worth anyone's time and/or financial support.
I have been a volunteer for CWR for over a year now. This rescue is a great place for birds (waterfowl or not). The volunteers are some of the most compassionate, hard-working people that I have ever had the pleasure to meet and work with. Learning about all of these birds and the situations in which they are found/rescued has been a real eye-opener for me. Not only are the birds rescued, cared for, rehabilitated, released or adopted when possible, but the rescue is also committed to raising awareness of the issues facing both the wild and domestic birds.
My daughters and I have the pleasure of working at the waterfowl center on the weekends. The people, knowledge, and care given to both the animals and to the volunteers is top notch. We look forward to it every week.
Enjoy birds? This is the place to be. This organization helps over 2,000 birds a year. It's all possible becasue of the hard working, caring all-volunteer staff. It's also a great way to get in shape. No need to pay for a gym membership.
Carolina Waterfowl Rescue provides care for waterfowl across the Carolinas, where there is a large amount of migratory birds. This is a special place, as waterfowl need help too, and here injured waterfowl such as herons, ducks, geese, and swans can live in the comfort and peace they deserve. The waterfowl each have their own unique personality and you can sense the joy and thankfulness in each of them.
This is a most wonderful place, full of caring volunteers. Being around these cool birds is a joy. Pekin ducks just want to have fun, Canada Geese recovering from injuries, big domestic geese who love to boss everyone, and turkeys, herons, pigeons, doves, quail, ginnea fowl and many many other kinds of birds (along with new new rescue goats to eat the grass). If you want to enjoy your weekly workout, come join the team here and skip those gym memberships!
Review from Guidestar
This is an all volunteer organization - we help injured and abandoned ducks, geese, swans, herons and all other kinds of water birds have a much better quality of life. This group of volunteers of all ages helps several thousand birds every year. Wild birds are released back into the wild when recovered or grown, and domestic birds and non-releasable wild birds find good homes with caring families around our area.
