The owner of this place is awful , I was to bring 2 dogs to him, he demanded 1000.00 up front, and then threaten me if I did not send it to him immediately. He lied to me several times. He completely changed my stories around. I offered a 2000.00 dollar donation. But he demanded 1000.00 up front and told me not to contact him unless I had the funds available. We were coming from a distance and had asked him to meet us at South of the Border, he used that as an excuse. I will never trust this place , and I certainly did not know 5013c can demand money!
The founder of this "shelter" is a lazy, aggressive person. The place is dirty, cats are in a horrible conditions, all the money from donations are kept by him. He doesn't play with dogs and cats. Clearly animals are.not happy. I saw him yelling at 2.inpectors at this property, there's no resoect towards women.
This organization claims that they care about their animals but it's quite the opposite. All money donated goes straight into the pocket of the founder; He does not even give one cent of the money received to the animals he "takes care of". The cats stay trapped in a small room in the back and when wanting to leave the room they have to be put back in. New cats stay inside small cages for days upon end until someone finally adopts them. The cats are in terrible conditions and never even looked at or received any petting. The dogs are the same, although let outside on occasion, half are stuck in a barn in small cages and the other half are outside also in cages. When let out of the cage no one seems to play with them either except the volunteers. The founder's own pets don't receive any love; How does one expect other people's previous pets to receive a kind stay at this place when his own pets don't. This so-called caring organization boosts the founder's ego through the roof making him think he's some kind of savior for these animals. All the animals there are sweet and lovely if only they had a proper place to be taken care of. I do not recommend dropping off your animals here if you want them to spend their days in good hands because it's only the opposite.
I recently found a 1 year old cat named Eagle that appeared on my street named Eagle Eye. Go figure but any way I found CVAG through having the cat scanned for a microchip. If someone who runs an adoption cares about their animals and if they get lost again, that’s what Herb does. He legitamitely cares for all non aggressive animals. This is an all donations rescue and when you walk in, you can sense the animals are taken care of. They do not have enough resources to create a palace, but they have created a safe place to keep the animals between showing them at adoption events and days.
Herb took Eagle back and is paying the vet bill to get her readopted. Please support this fine local non profit rescue
I used to be a volunteer there and saw what horrible conditions the cats were in. Cvaag does not do a good job of caring for the animals. It's all about the profits. I would not recommend them or support them if you're looking to adopt please look somewhere else.
The "founder and CEO" of this rescue is a predator, using the vulnerable to further his own agenda. He should be shut down as soon as possible, to keep any more individuals or animals from falling victim. He is not who he pretends to be. Trust me, you want to steer as far clear from CVAAG as you can. Adopt from an organization who isn't trying to support their sick lifestyle through donations from the unknowing general public.
HI Guys here is exactly what happened to the dog named hooch. This is on the states web site from years ago and nothing like what they are saying is true. Please read the report we never took any donations for a dog we could not help he was a large aggressive male not the demur female that we said we had room for. We don't deal in Aggressive dogs Lynn Gruel Chambers is a cyber bully that has presented her self falsely as an organization, that the authorities in her area in INDIANA have never heard of her. I will post that below the actual report from the state.
Paperwork from Rockingham county Shelter does show that Hooch was taken in on September 26,2013 from
CVAAG and was euthanized the following day. Paperwork did show that Herb Moniz of Carolina Veterinary
Assistance and Adoption Program showed proof of ownership of the dog and released the dog to animal control
due to dog aggression.
Upon speaking with Herb this is his statement: Herb received a call from Debbie Sterling on September 25, 2013
asking if he had room for a small female docile pit bull that had been at Bladen County Animal Control for a
month. There were pleas on facebook asking for help for this little girl to be saved. She said that she had some
sponsors and could arrange transport if he could take her. Debbie stated that she tried to get Bladen County to
hold the dog til Friday Sept. 27 but Bladen Co said, "No" and they stated it was scheduled to be put down on
Friday if no one come forward. Herb agreed to take the dog in. Debbie had Hope go to Bladen and pick up the
dog and take to CVAAG. When Hope got to CVAAG she brought a male, intact Pit Bull named Hooch. Herb
wasn't sure how that happened but agreed to keep anyway. Within the afternoon he put Hooch in with Brenda a
spayed female and Hooch initiated a fight. Herb then put Hooch in with a neutered male dog named Skeet.
Again Hooch was aggressive and caused a bite to Skeet's leg. Herb then put Hooch in a wire crate in the barn.
Hooch immediately aggressively tried to get out of the cage. At that time, Herb made the decision to take the
dog to the shelter (around 4:45 pm). He called Debbie to make her aware of this and told her to keep all sponsor/
donated money. He never received any fee for this dog. He told the animal shelter staff the entire story and gave
them all the paperwork to release the dog as an owner surrendered dog.
I have spoken with Kevin Baughn, Director of Rockingham County and Debbie Sterling and their stories
duplicated Herb's. There were no violations of the Animal Welfare Act committed as the dog was in Herb Moniz's
possession and the shelter received the dog in with proof of ownership and therefore did not have to hold the
dog for any period of time.

Now for the letter from her**** Please note no phone number and more and below this there is the response from the county official in HER area about the phony Organization she said was so interested in what we do.
This letter is from Lynn Gruell Chambers and below it is the folks that never heard of her or her group she is nothing more than a cyber bully.
Dear Herb: As you know our group is looking into the practices of CVAAG. We have undertaken this effort after learning of your practices of dumping unwanted dogs and cats a high kill shelters for requested euthanasia. As a 501 c 3 charity rescue, your organization has taken on the major responsibility of providing humane and appropriate care as well as rehoming for rescued animals including among other things the rehabilitation of animals with behavioral issues and the appropriate vetting of sick animals in your care. In lieu of fulfilling the expected obligations, it is clear from the 30 animals you "dumped" at Rockingham County Animal Shelter and possibly elsewhere for requested euthanasia that your practices are instead inhumane, cruel, and contrary to the expected mission of a non profit dog and cat rescue. We have gathered many facts and first hand witness statements and will continue to do so. Therefore we are requesting the following that you are required to disclose under IRS regulations for 501 c 3 entities:
* COMPLETE LIST OF GRANT MAKERS FOR THE YEARS 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 AND 2015. PLEASE INCLUDE THE NAME OF THE GRANT MAKER AND THE AMOUNT OF THE GRANT FOR EACH YEAR LISTED.
We welcome a productive dialogue with you regarding our concerns and will await the requested information you are required to provide. Delivery of this information by email is perfectly acceptable.
Sincerely
Lynn Gruwell Chambers

Below is from the Morgan County Animal control that says they have never heard of this cyber bully.
Herb,
Anyone can type up whatever they like and there is no way to know if it's a legitimate place.
I went to whitepages.com and typed in the address you gave me. It comes up as business called Chase Cleaning Service? ph # 765-352-8391
I don't know what to tell you. I also checked businesses for animal rescue in 46151 zip code and nothing came up even close to the named you gave me. I have never heard of this place here in town.
I would ask for proof or something from this person and I would tell them all requests have to be sent in writing.

I see there has been a couple of really bad reviews about our group so let me review the reviews. ;-)
First off Pat this "transporter" shows up with a dog named cooper, early in the morning and we have no clue to what is going on due to lack of communication about this dog where it came from and who was sponsoring it? I am sure as a transporter she filled her tank with butterflies, rainbows and unicorns to get here on a tank of love. Never charged a penny or took a dime from anyone on her magical mystery tour from Alabama to Reidsville NC. The wonderful lady shows up and says I have a dog named cooper walking up I am so happy for her. (I have one named Clipper.) So she tells me that she is bringing me the dog. Ok there has been a lack of communication to me. So I ask her politely to wait while is see more about it and find out a little more on who is sponsoring this dog for on 75.00 as we here match that and put about 205.00 to vet all the animals here. We spay/neuter vaccinate, heartworm test, de worm them and house them, drive them to and from our venues so tragically our vet's that provide this service to not bill us for Unicorns, rainbows and butterflies, I can pay them in love but they do not like that. So we ask for a 75 dollar contribution for all animals that come here. Also our adoption donation is 75.00 dog, cat, puppy, kitten pure breed or not it is a 75.00 contribution. All animals are fixed and anything wrong health wise we have treated at no charge to the client.
Again I am sure as a transporter she asked for no money for her trip here to bring us a dog that we knew nothing about. To the other Child of God who says we take in animals and lie well I am sure she will be out soon and happily back on her medication. Our web site is www.cvaag.org and people are always invited to come visit any day of the week. So far we have helped thousands of animals here in NC and beyond despite wonderful folks like the previous posts. We do care that is why we need funds to help animals properly and that cost money.
Well God bless the animals and please come out and see what we do you will probably go home with your new best friend. Please come before 10 am as we head out to 10-11 adoption venues everyday.
Sincerely,

Herb Moniz, President of CVAAG, dumps undesired dogs at high kill shelters for euthanasia. He never uses a behaviorist or trainer and runs his "rescue" communally...if a dog has food aggression, off to the needle...we have the Rockingham records for these 20 dogs and 10 cats he dumped.....please review the numbers posted on his page and you will soon see that little adds up....please do not donate to CVAAG

This is a 501 c 3 charity dog and cat "rescue" who between 2011 and 2013 dumped 30 animals at the Rockingham County Animal Shelter with a request from the CVAAG president (whose name appears on the animal records) that the animals be euthanized; all but 3 were put to sleep. The mission of a 501 c 3 animal rescue is to save an animal from certain death, obtain necessary vetting and sterilization, rehabilitation, love, and placement in a verified loving home. The records that confirm the above are public and can be obtained by sending the proper NC FOIA letter to Kevin Baugh, Director, Rockingham County Animal Shelter, North Carolina. There is a lot more to this but these records from Rockingham may be the tip of the iceberg.....yes, please good people adopt their animals but do what you can to demand they close their doors.
Herb and staff at CVAAG are wonderful. Please don't let a couple of lone nuts make you believe otherwise. The care and compassion runs deep and at the end of that day, that is what matters. Just like humans, all dogs can't be saved and some are just troubled. However, you can rest assured that all means are exhausted and everyone involved work til exhaustion to find every animal that comes through the gates a home. God bless you!!!!!
5 stars to Herb and his crew! People need to get their facts straight before spreading lies. Keeps doing what you're doing CVAAG! The thousands you saved and rehome each year shows your dedication and loyalty to rescuing these fur babies!
I wish I could give negative stars. This is the most disgusting "rescue" I have ever ran across in my many years of rescue and adoption services. There are numerous documents that can be found proving that Herb and his felonious crew took pledges and other funds to rescue animals from shelters only to have them euthanized. He scammed people out their money and ended the lives of numerous animals because of his greed. Please don't support him and most certainly please don't give him money. If you want to help then consider fostering a pet or volunteering for a REAL rescue.
I also donated to have Hooch 'saved' but that is not what CVAAG did...they killed him for free at the local animal shelter and pocketed the money that was raised to save him. Through FOI, I received documentation from Rockingham (where Hooch was killed) that Herb (owner of this money grubbing savage group) took more dogs for free killing, and I received 20 records of Herb having animals killed. Some he gave the reason that they had a curable illness (not his term but that is what they all were...easily treated) but he also seemed to learn over time that it was just easier to call them aggressive (no questions asked then!) Of course the 'aggressive' dogs had never bitten anyone and had been kept at other animal control shelters that indicated the dogs were not aggressive (they were available for adoption from the original ACs and of course county/city ACs will not adopt out aggressive dogs since it is a liability). Under no circumstance send any of your dogs to this horrible place!
CVAAG "rescued"( and I use that word loosely ) from a shelter in NC. The dogs name was Hooch. Hooch was a very sweet intact male who had never showed any dog aggression towards intact male or female dogs in the long time he was at the shelter. Herb had the dog Hooch less than 1 hour before he turned him over to Rockingham shelter to be euthanized. Herb was suppose to notify the shelter Hooch came from to allow them the opportunity to claim the dog back. He did not ! What kind of RESCUE does that ? CVAAG does. I refuse to even give one star! but I guess I have to to post this.

This is a great facility and is NOT in it for money in fact they LOSE money left and right saving animals from euthanasia. Over 1200 animals a year for past few years is nothing to laugh at and the owner Herb Moniz has given his entire life for these animals. Help him to help these animals
I am a transporter... I brought a dog from AL to Reidsville, NC Drove straight thru, to get this fur kid to CVAAG safely, When I arrived approx. 7 am with "Cooper", I knocked on the door, with in seconds it was answered, I had Cooper by my side and said "" Hi I am the transporter from AL bringing you Cooper" His reply " do you have the $75.00 because I don't take dogs unless the $75.00 is paid" I again stated I am the transporter... I do not pay to bring dogs to rescues! He took Cooper but not until he called Kristina and spoke with her.! I will never bring another animal to this so called CARING RESCUE ! Because they are anything BUT caring!
DO NOT do business with this man! He is all about the money! If I could, I would pull every animal he has. I am not saying to NOT adopt his pets. I'm saying be very vigilant. He takes money from rescue pledgers and then without giving the dog enough time to adapt to his/her new home, turns them over to animal control. He has been caught in lie after lie. He used boards for dividers instead of metal siding...giving many dogs splinters in their paws. He states he cares so much for animals, but had to be corrected in an inspection to fix something so obvious!
