Carolina International School

Programs: North carolina releases performance grades for all public schools across the state. The measures, called school performance grades, are required by the legislature and give every school a letter grade from a to f and are based entirely on standardized test scores. Carolina international school earned an overall grade of c for the 2016-17 school year.

but the grade only tells part of the story:* our enrollment, though not quite at capacity, remains strong (indeed, we are at a record enrollment this year) and new student applications remain high. * we continue to fiscally operate in the black, finishing last year with about a $140,000 surplus and anticipating that this year we will do about the sames. Indeed, we have operated in the black every year of our existence.

as we enter the 2nd semester of the 14th year of existence of cis, our school is going strong in many key respects:* academically, we continue to see many successes. For example, this past school year our 3rd grade students as a whole achieved in the top 25% state-wide on their end-of-grade reading tests; this success reflects well not only on those students and their 3rd grade teachers, but reflects well also on our k-2 teachers who worked with these students in prior years. Similarly, 67% of ap environmental science students and their ap environmental science teacher, but also on their prior science teachers. * also, we have added a full-time math tutor to our staff to further support the growth of students as needed in this vital academic area. * we continue to see growth in our athletics and arts programs, with student involvement strong and student performance high in both. Indeed, for-expample, we have seen the 1st ever signing days for two of our senior scholar-athletes as they accepted scholarship offers to play sports at their respective college choice. In the arts, for example, we have seen the beginnings of a marching band, with them taking their 1st steps towards eventful participation in various parades. * we continue to see students living out our core values in exemplary ways, and being recognized for such in varied ways. * we prepare to graduate our 3rd ever 12th grade class this coming may, and this will be our largest graduating class by far.
