Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Food, Food Banks & Pantries
Mission: Caritas of Port Chester, Inc / Meals on Main Street’s mission is to eliminate food insecurity in Port Chester and the surrounding areas. We provide healthy food and support services though our network of volunteers and our partner organizations. We show respect and dignity for every individual that seeks our assistance.
Results: Throughout the pandemic, we have increased our output of groceries and prepared meals from 19,000 to 29,000 meals per month. Our total food distributed per year jumped from 189,000 pounds to 267,000 pounds, and we continue to grow our presence in the community by setting up Pop-Up Pantry sites in neighborhoods where food insecurity is greatest.
Target demographics: Individuals and families in need.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Over 20,000 households with groceries and 177,000 people with meals.
Geographic areas served: Lower Westchester County in the communities of Port Chester and the surrounding area.
Programs: Neighborhood food distribution through local pantries and pop-up mobile pantries; Meal distribution and delivery; Food recovery; Kitchen partnerships with restaurants, caterers and culinary schools; and Community Dining programs with local organizations.
