Causes: Centers to Support the Independence of Specific Populations, Human Services
Mission: Caring friends, inc. Encourages, collaborates and leverages resources with kindred spirit partners who help the hungry, the thirsty, the sick, the homeless, the refugee, victims of fire and violence, at-risk students in schools and apartments, and the ex-offender in re-entry.
Programs: Caring friends focuses on encouraging, collaborating, and leveraging resources with other 501(c)(3) non-profits who are serving the underserved in houston and around the world in the following areas: safe water; medical services; ex-offender support; clothing; food; homeless and refugee work; leadership, character and reconciliation training. Safe water projects: provided water biosand filters to schools in haiti. Partnered with rotary foundation on west kenyan water project. Provided a well to be drilled for school in nigeria. Enabled women working on getting clean water through a microfinance project with rice university. Medical & healthcare: partnered with promise for haiti to support the comits de bienfaisance hospital in pignon, haiti and supports several schools and students in the pignon area with scholarships and meals. Partnered to support preventative health care in underserved houston neighborhoods. Supported medical initiatives in the same neighborhoods. Supported international health aid through partnership for shipment of supplies. Ex-offender services: provided financial support to 501(c)(3) ex-offender ministries via newgate united methodist church, a church started for ex-offenders and their families; and support for spirit key, inc. , an ex-offender 501(c)(3) ministry on kaltenbrun street in northwest houston, tx. Food/welcoming strangers/clothing/special projects: provided gift certificates to the sunshine resale shop a 501(c)(3) ministry of christian community service center) for fire victims in sw houston apartment communities, supported emmaus ministry-houston in working with male prostitutes and drug addicts in montrose area of mid-town houston, provided food for food pantries run by christian community service center, children's activity center and san mateo hispanic episcopal church in gulfton. In 2017, caring friends provided disaster relief to victims of hurricanes harvey and maria. At risk schools and after-school apartment ministries in houston: caring friends stepped up active support of after-school programs via 501(c)(3) partner urban outreach, supporting the addition of a staff member to their leadership team supervising 25 apartment ministries. We also provided financial support through cornerstone apt min. , sent ministries, sylvan rodriguez hisd elementary school, for best reader/most improved program for 34 class winners, 2 per class to buy a new book each. Leading the way ministries: undergirding kindred spirit, urban ministry partners who work with at risk youth by providing financial support to 501(c)(3) community organizations through young life/center for student missions/provision/rice university community service scholarships/pair-refugee/collegiate mentors/sw houston neighborhood apartment/crime/education. Other partners: generation one; intervarsity christian fellowship; literacy projects. Malachi destiny and purpose is an inner city ministry in houston's third ward, serving african american youth and their families from a biblical perspective.
