We were entirely abandoned by the Hospice in the 4 days before my mother died. Repeated emails and phone calls were put off as we were clear that something was changing dramatically and my mother was extremely miserable. When finally they made a time to come, the nurse called last minute to postpone - she was asked to please come as soon as she could. I communicated our experience to the Chaplin and Social Worker who called to follow up - they indicated that they would relay my story. The only times I heard from them after that was from fund raisers.
My mother was a client of theirs. Both in her home and later for the last week of her life at their inpatient facility. The inpatient care was wonderful. The care she received in her home was terrible. There was one week where none of her three times a week nursing visits showed up, none of them called my mother to let her know.....we had to hunt them down as the office had no idea where they were. A very disorganized organization. I'm still considering filing a formal complaint with the state regulatory agency.
