Mission: Sponsors orchestral and chamber music concerts
Programs: During the 2014-2015 concert season the orchestra offered seven performances of five full symphony concert programs, and two free community carol sing events to the washington, dc, community. The orchestra also gave two performances in a collaboration with a dc go-go group as the continuation of a very popular collaboration started in 2013. Each year the orchestra provides an orchestral performance opportunity to the youth winner of local competitions: our october 2014 concert featured the ninth-grade winner of the novik concerto competition playing the prokofiev piano concert #3. The ccs is currently comprised of 75 musicians who performed regularly with the orchestra. Over half of these members are residents of washington, dc and the great majority are volunteers. Our audience base has remained steady and committed to the orchestra, despite the economic recession. Over 1800 individuals attended performances of the ccs during the 2014-15 season. The capital city symphony is committed to reaching out to the community to increase access to music. Children age 16 and under are admitted free to all regular season performances, while discounted tickets are offered to students and seniors age 65 and over. In addition, the orchestra offers a family concert specifically designed to introduce children to classical music, as well as two community carol sing events that are free for all.
