Causes: Human Services, Senior Centers, Seniors
Mission: To provide activities, meals, a meeting place and transportation services for senior citizens and all residents of the community.
Programs: Golden age center (gac): a. Organization leadership facilities for educational, physical, social and service activities & meetings for seniors: health & fitness classes, craft groups, special speakers, senior dances, cards and games days. Estimated 650 participants in 2017. B. Facilities for other community organizations and clubs to meet: quilters, wood carvers, bridge, koffee klub. C. 68 volunteers put in over 9,903 hours in 2017 to provide these services to our community.
golden shuttle /fremont county transit program: a. Operates three eight passenger buses with a lift, two passenger vans and a van with a ramp, monday through friday, in the canon city, florence and penrose areas. B. Provide trips for shopping, employment, medical, nutrition and social needs. Trips provided in 2017 were approximately 10,293. C. Volunteer drivers put in 12,201 hours to provide this service and covered approximately 77,270 miles in 2017. D. The senior riders donate 1 per trip and non-senior riders donate 2 per trip to help support this program. Some financial support comes in the form of city and county grants, foundation grants and fundraising efforts each year.
gac senior nutrition program: a. Facility for the gac senior nutrition program, which is a congregate meal program served five times a week with gac volunteers assisting with serving and clean up. Meals served in 2017 were approximately 16,432. B. This is a government subsidized program up to 100 meals per meal day. The participants may donate 2. 00 or more to help cover the cost of the meals.
trolley service: the trolley was leased in order to provide trolley service throughout canon city. Drivers are partial paid and partial volunteers and riders will make a suggested donation in order to ride.
