Programs: The mission of the cancer resource centers is to improve quality of life for those living with cancer. The coastal and inland offices provide a wide variety of help to persons living with cancer as well as their families. The crc's patient navigation services include appointment preparation and treatment options, as well as direct help with lodging and transportation for treatment out of town. Crc also provides and facilitates a resource lending library, cancer support groups, peer support, education in treatment and prevention. Additionally crc provides wigs, scarves, hats, prostheses and comfort care items. All services to clients are free of charge. In 2016 crc served 225 new clients, 24% reporting incomes below the federal poverty level.
in cooperation with the community foundation's foster fund, and through the angel fund and respite from the road fund, crc works with patients who are undergoing treatment away from their homes, helping them with access to transportation and lodging.
the crc provides outreach and education regarding cancer prevention and risk reduction via social media, vertical response e-mail, local media and newspaper articles, and educational community forums and lectures. The crc is a vital resource for mendocino county residents and employs evidence-based decision support models.
