Hello, I am a client of Cancer Connection of Northwest Ohio. Approximately 2 years ago my life, and the life of my husband and young child, turned upside down when we discovered my brain cancer. We had no idea how to handle any of our new struggles. Cancer Connection gave us so much assistance to figure out how to move forward and begin to build our new lives. We were, and still are, so incredibly fortunate to have Cancer Connection in our lives!

Other local nonprofits do not come close to providing the hands on support like Cancer Connection does. They are right there with you - in the hospital, at home, at Dr. appointments - wherever you need them. They are not just an organization that helps, they become part of the family!

This place is absolutely amazing. Rarely will you find a staff of any nonprofit that is as committed to helping their patients as these guys are. Whether they are assembling information for an assessment, or making a call to their patients just to check in; the staff at CCNWO goes all in with their commitment to ensuring that nobody has to go through cancer alone. At CCNWO, you become more than just a number, you become part of a family.

I started working with Cancer Connection of Northwest Ohio in 2018. I am a Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Cancer survivor and it is an honor to assist CCNWO an organization this offers the care and support that patients and survivors need. When the cancer can back, I looked up and Cancer Connection was right there to see me through the next leg of my journey. I cannot think of a better way to spend my time – passionately living a purpose driven life as a subservient leader and advocate for cancer survivors.

The people at Cancer Connection of Norrthwest Ohio has been there for me and my husband to lean on at our times we have needed that. To help us find funding for gas to get me to appointments. Even when I had surgery I would open my eyes to see Colleen there with a smile on her face. This putting a smile on my face. There is the bi-weekly calls to see how we are doing and how we are holding up. Yes this is just the tip of how wonderful they have been to us.

Jean Schoen and the Cancer Connection have been a lifesaver to me for the past 15 months. I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer in September 2016 and my mind went into a whirl wind. My friend told me about the Cancer Connection and how they could help me. Jean's smile and passion of how she talks to you is such a comfort. She took time for me to explain all the resources our there and what each one could help me with. She gave me contact info and specifically who to talk to. The receptionist's weekly phone calls helped me know someone was thinking of me and my well being. Having a friendly person to talk to and check on how I was doing. The free massages to help me relax while going through treatments were a god send. The massage therapist Jen has an art for what she does. Having the Cancer Connection behind you that provides someone (in my case Jean) for many of my appointments that I didn't want to face alone was an added relief to my mind. Thank you to Jean and the Cancer Connection for giving me the tools I needed in helping me on my journey to beat my breast cancer.

My love for the organization is beyond words. I volunteered there as part as my externship with Davis College. On my first day it was my job to call clients and just simply ask if they needed anything from the organization. I started with the A's and person after person said nope I'm good but I am so thankful that you call. It makes me feel safe. Then I was all the way to the N's and a very sickly voice said. I just got a letter from the bank and they want to take my home. Here is where Jean Schoen steps in. Beyond my knowledge there is assistance to save the women's home. I just loved the work that they do from then on. Because no one wants to be sick, let alone not in there own home. Just recently I went for my first mammogram, it came back abnormal. Jean was the first person I called, even before my mom. She calmed me down and asked when my next appt. was and yup there she was holding my hand the whole time. That day would have not been the same without her. She talked to me about everything under the sun but the scary test and results that might be getting. Everything turned out great, and she celebrated with me like I was her own daughter. So the morel of my rambling is that every single client that gets a hold of Cancer Connection of Northwest Ohio doesn't just get an operator on the other line, they get family.

I think that there should be more of these organizations in every city across the nation.
It has been my experience that CCNWO has assisted and mentored many cancer patients and their families throughout the Toledo community for 7 years. I have seen families helped financially, spiritually and mentally throughout their cancer journey. I have been a recipient of their services and count it a blessing to pass it on!

Jean and her team were an instrumental part of our journey when my 19 year old daughter was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma. Jean literally came to the hospital for our first visit. She was a wealth of information at a time when I could only concentrate on my daughter. She guided us financially and helped to make us aware of many programs out there for cancer patients. My daughter enjoyed the massages, facial and many other services offered and recommended by Cancer Connections. Jean has become a good friend through all of this and I recently joined the board due to the great things happening at Cancer Connections. I would recommend them to anyone diagnosed with cancer or who has a friend or family member with cancer.

I became a client of Cancer Connection a little over 2 years ago when I was diagnosed with non-invasive DCIS. Jean not only gave me hope, she sent me in the right direction for help as I was unemployed, attending college, and uninsured. Words or text can not express how genuinely helpful and compassionate Jean and her crew were to me during my treatment. I am forever grateful for all they did for me and would recommend their services to anyone with a cancer diagnosis. Thank God for organizations like Cancer Connection and people like Jean for giving so much of themselves to help others in need. Bless you Jean!

Love this place ......

I met Jean yrs ago, during my first bout with
stage 3 cancer. She brought my family much needed food, comfort, and encouragement.

I was the 4th client at Cancer Connections, and I am very grateful for their support. Thanks to God for His healing power, I am a 2 time stage 3 cancer survivor, who has lived to tell about it and loves sharing my story with who ever will listen :)

I love volunteering for Cancer Connections when i can and consider it an honor to be able to go visit and pray for the healthy and the sick in the hospital/hospice/ and even in their home.

When I was diagnosed with cancer, my heart was filled with confusion and fear. Fortunately I received tremendous support from my loving family and friends, but still, many questions filled my mind. Cancer Connection provides both support and direction. From a simple phone call to check how you are doing (sometimes the simple things mean the most) or accompanying you to a doctors appointment, to connecting you to whatever resources will best alleviate your questions and fears; Cancer Connection is there for you. Thanks Cancer Connection!!

I was introduced to Jean by a mutual business contact we had. That was a blessing as I don't know how I would have made it through my husband's journey with cancer without her. My husband had cancer and was such a fighter. Unfortunately, he passed away October, 2011. We found Jean from Cancer Connection to be such a caring soul who truly cared about her clients. She met with Tom and I on many occasions to see what she could do to help us. She even came to the hospital more than once to see us and just to give a hug made all the difference. She and Cancer Connection were a valuable resource for us. If it wouldn’t have been for Jean and her resources, I don’t know what we would’ve done. She helped us to talk to the right people about supplies, billing, and much more. It was comforting to know she was a phone call away and sometimes all we needed was someone to listen and she was there. Jean along with the other volunteers at Cancer Connection of Northwest Ohio were and still are a life line for those going through some of the most difficult times in their lives. I am (and so was my husband) so grateful for Jean and Cancer Connection. I believe so much in the organization that after my husband passed away, I wanted to become a part of the organization and help others. Talk about a safe place to land -- Cancer Connection is that place.

I was aware of Cancer Connection through contacts within the community for a few years. I joined the Board over two years ago because of what I saw. My wife received news over a year ago that she had breast cancer. I reached out to Jean and others within the organization and we were guided through the medical maze which was helpful. I encourage all who are going through any form of cancer to reach out to organizations such as Cancer Connection to assist and support. It is not something anyone should have to face alone.

I LOVE working with the Cancer Connection of NW Ohio as a Board Member and Holistic Program Director because of the personal approach the organization takes with each cancer patient young and old. Each patient is given hope the moment they walk through the doors. We don't tell a patient we cannot help...we find a way to make sure that everyone who seeks us out gets the help they need to continue on with their lives the best way that they can. We are advocates for each patient on their behalf. As an organization we are strong in our cancer knowledge and all the money we raise as a non-profit stays in this area to help with our community. Community helping community! We believe in empathy and compassion and work hard at making connections in our community for the greater good of the patients we serve.

My name is Theresa. I was introduced to Cancer Connection of NWOhio by a friend in my cancer support group. I was going through chemo for Recurrent Ovarian Cancer and I was also the main caregiver for my sister who was a double amputee. Jean who founded this organization is one of the most compassionate persons you will meet. She could see that I was overwhelmed and not doing all that well. Cancer Connection stepped right in to offer help and take care not only my needs but to offer compassion to my sister. They were respectful of my privacy, but let us know by their actions that I was their priority. Jean took me to appointments, she sat w/my sister while I did some errands, she brought me and my sister groceries when times were very tight. People don't realize how debilitating cancer is not only physically but socially. It isolates you and takes you to some very dark thoughts and places. Jean and her team of angels helped me with anything I needed, even if it was a shoulder to cry on or a ear to listen. When they tell you that you can call them or they are willing to help you....it's not just lip service ...they really mean it. Sadly, my sister passed away in 2012, but I felt that paying it forward would respect her wishes and be a chance to give back. I donated all of her medical equipment, bed and supplies so that others in need would use them. My family and I will always appreciate the help and kindness shown to us by Cancer Connection in our greatest hour of need. Thank You.

My name is Amy Smith, I am Treasurer of the Board of Cancer Connection of Northwest Ohio. I am also a cancer survivor. Three years ago this past June, I went in for surgery to remove a cyst from my bladder and they found stage 1 ovarian cancer. The crazy part was I had a full hysterectomy 13 years before. A remnant of my ovary was unknowingly left behind. I would learn this is not really uncommon.

It was the scariest thing to wake up in recovery and have my husband tell me they found cancer. I was devastated. My friend Jean, founder of Cancer Connection of Northwest Ohio was immediately by my side. She went to every one of my chemotherapy treatments with me and still continues to go with me for support at my oncology check up. I do not know how I would have gotten through all this without her and the support of this organization. It has been a support for not just me but my whole family.

I joined the Board because I wanted to give back and also help others facing this horrible diagnosis, I am honored to be a part of this organization. My teenage daughter Lizzie, now serves as a Junior Board member by my side as well. CCNWO has been a blessing to so many cancer patients over the last 5+ years.
