I was diagnosed with Stage 1, HER 2 Positive, Triple Aggressive. Somehow, I found out about this organization and they were so kind to assist me with paying some of my bills. It was great to have someone around to guide me through all of this. This was also 9 years ago, and my thanks go out to Marta and Dr. Palermo! What a great foundation and I now volunteer at the Pink Ribbon Walk at Port Canaveral, FL. every October and I have remained "Cancer Free"! I became very involved in the Central Brevard Breast Cancer support group, where we have our meetings once a month, great support group, find us on Facebook at: Central Brevard Breast Cancer Support Group.

In 1993 the Cancer Care Centers of Brevard Foundation was created by Radiation Oncologist, Dr. Silas Charles after it became self-evident that uninsured and underinsured cancer patients, all had a common dilemma...."how to pay their house bills while undergoing treatment". The Foundation assists any cancer patient in Brevard and Indian River counties with rent/mortgage, all utilities, pain and cancer related medication and transportation to and from treatments. This unique method of assisting cancer patients earned the Foundation the 2004 Non Profit Volunteer of the Year organization in 2004. Several grants have been awarded to the Foundation, including Gannett, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and the Community Foundation for Brevard.
