Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Camps, Children & Youth, Education, Primary & Elementary Schools, Sports, Youth Development Programs
Mission: Vacamas provides quality residential experiential education programs to over 5,000 at-risk youngsters annually. We work collaboratively with school districts and social service agencies to provide unique educational programs at our 230-acre rural experiential education facility in West Milford, New Jersey. Vacamas was founded in 1924 as a summer camp and has, over the years, grown into a year-round agency providing services in both the rural/camp and the urban/school settings. We are a multicultural communitiny serving a diverse population on every level: religious, racial, cultural and socio-economic.
Programs: Our main initiatives include: residential summer camp; attendance improvement and drop-out prevention; after-school enrichment; alternative education; environmental and multicultural education; entrepreneurial studies and college prep; and teacher and leadership training.
