Camp Turley is 64 acres located in Carterville, Ill. Purchased in 1948 by the Mt. Olive Baptist District Association as a place for their children for picnics, camping, fishing and other recreational activities. During the course of the years, membership in the district declined because the age of its members and lack of funds to maintain the camp. Currently, there is newly formed Camp Turley Planning Group within the Mt. Olive Baptist District, that is actively and agressively pursuing grants and other charitable donations to reopen Camp Turley to provide a quality facility that can be used by other non-profit, christian groups for camping, meetings, and recreational activities for social disadvantage youths, as well as, adults year round. The programs that will be offered will be structured to enhance spiritual, mental, physical, educational, vocational, and social development. I am pleased to be part of the undertaking and share in the vision to rebuild this type of facility in the Carterville area. I look forward in the ground breaking ceremony in the near future.
