In addition to programs described in 4b and 4c, these programs include a coolidge-themed event/lecture series, a washington, dc summit for high schoolers focused on the coolidge presidency, the calvin writing prize for vermont youth, a printed newsletter, a weekly e-newsletter, an active website with educational materials, and history education programs at the president calvin coolidge state historic site for students of all ages.
debate program the foundation operates a high school debate program that emphasizes coolidge-related topics and content instruction. The hallmark of the debate program is the coolidge cup, a national debate tournament with contests held around the country that culminate in a championship tournament held at the president calvin coolidge state historic site in plymouth, vermont each summer. In addition to the cup, the foundation also hosts a week-long debate summer camp as well as shorter debate training days for groups and schools. Hundreds pass through the debate program each year.
the coolidge scholarship the foundation operates a merit scholarship program that awards full-ride undergraduate scholarships to outstanding high school students. The scholarship program attracts thousands of students each year, each of whom learns about president coolidge and his values through the course of applying for the scholarship. The coolidge foundation conducts a rigorous, multi-stage, review process that culminates with in-person interviews with a finalist jury. In 2016 the first three coolidge scholarship recipients were named. The chief criterion is academic excellence. Secondary criteria include interest in policy, appreciation for the values coolidge championed, humility, and service.
