California Trout has had tremendous success as a non-profit, environmental guardian of California's native species of trout. Their team is comprised of both young and seasoned individuals who effectively drive conservation efforts with efficient use of capital and the power to build strong relationships. I am fully confident in this team and look forward to seeing their hard work come to fruition.

Where to begin? CalTrout is an amazing organization doing so much for the fish, water, and people of the great state of California. I became a member and donor several years ago after I got into fly fishing. Since that time, I've been amazed by the great work that CalTrout is doing, whether that involves stream restoration, damn removals, policy work, educational initiatives, scientific research, etc. This work has paid and continues to pay great dividends with tangible and material impacts on our watersheds and fisheries. I've had the pleasure of getting to meet and know a few of the folks at CalTrout (at fly shops, or various events) and they're all incredibly hard working, passionate, and dedicated to their task. Truth be told, I've tried to largely consolidate my charitable giving over the last few years (electing to focus my giving on 1-2 selected entities, versus spreading it more broadly) and CalTrout is the entity that I've decided to focus on exclusively, because I feel that comfortable with them and am that supportive of the work they're doing.

When it comes to supporting conservation non-profits, CalTrout is the clearest choice. They get the work done to recover fish and habitat, not just talk about it. Their projects bring together many differing interests (non-profits, private companies, farmers, water districts, government agencies, etc.) to find the right solution that will have the biggest impact. In today's world, we see the needs of the environment often put at odds with the needs of people, when in reality we need to consider both. CalTrout does this, and is extremely clear about their intentions. They send out detailed newsletters each month with updates on their projects, what they've accomplished and how. They make the SCIENCE behind their conservation work very clear. I am very impressed with the innovative projects that they are leading, especially in the Central Valley with their fish and floodplains research. I am excited to see more of what they can accomplish. For a rather small team, they are accomplishing some impressive large-scale projects, some that even take several years, yet they stay committed. As for their donor relations, CalTrout team has a great approach managing their members. I am always kept updated on their work, and can clearly see that my donation is being applied to conservation work, not just overhead for the organization. I feel very valued by their team.

As a former Vice-President and Board Member of California Trout, this once proud volunteer environmental organization is now nothing more than a bloated, professional fund raising organization that uses "spin" and fishing photos to fool people into giving them money to cover its overhead and little more. Ask them why five board members resigned from the organization when California Trout decided that corporate contributions were more important than taking courageous positions and that true advocacy should be downplayed in order to become another phony Astro-Turf organization that sells its endorsement to the highest bidder.

This organization has been "getting it done" for wild trout, salmon and steelhead for FORTY YEARS non-stop. CalTrout is responsible for wild rivers protection, special fisheries management, improved instream flows for fish, better forest practices, water quality protection, endangered fish designation, and revolutionary changes in angling ethics in the state, nation and the world. Fans have dubbed them "The Force."
