Causes: Disaster Aid, Public Safety, Disaster Preparedness & Relief
Mission: To reduce the threats posed by fire, earthquake, and other disasters, natural and manmade, including teaching communities to be more resilient and prepared. We teach people how to be safe in their homes. We teach students and adults how to save people via cpr. We teach firefighters how to survive wildfires, respond to earthquakes, and other issues that may impact their job performance and safety.
Programs: California fire prevention organization (cfpo) delivers quality and focused fire and life safety programs aimed at building a more resilient community. The organization works diligently to provide programs that cannot (or are not) be(ing) delivered via traditional fire department channels. The organization's trained, uniformed emts, paramedics, and education/public safety specialists work with fire department and community leaders to identify and reach at-risk populations. Cfpo is expert in managing a process called community risk reduction (crr). Reducing risk is not limited to a presentation or pr campaign. It starts with analysis, determining where risk reduction will be most effective. It includes partnering with elected leaders, community stakeholders, and first responders to share risk reduction tactics. Those tactics include home visits, school presentations, safety fairs, and availability of free crr materials (smoke alarms, co detectors, breathing devices, go bags, escape kits, etc. ). Crr tactics are followed up with additional analysis, measurement, and comparison. These metrics determine progress, and help identify areas that require additional effort. Cfpo is managed by an experienced, highly trained board of directors, currently including senior leadership from within the fire service, emergency services, or institutional organizations. Since 2015, our public safety teams have delivered programs across the state of california to more than 118,000 students, primarily in the 4th and 5th grades. Cfpo organizes and executes area home visits, installing free smoke alarms, co detectors, and provides fire safety education to residents. Cfpo delivers fire safety education to 4th and 5th grade students, including homework inspection of homes, and provides free smoke alarms when requested. Cfpo teaches high school students how to perform cpr, the use of an aed, and how to work as a team when assisting someone who is injured or suffering from sudden cardiac arrest. Cfpo teaches older adults how to safety evacuate or in some instances to stay sheltered in place and provides free go bags with evacuation essentials and a checklist. Cfpo produces public safety fairs across the state of california, bringing the public together with emergency services stakeholders, providing education, free materials, and awareness about how to survive major disasters. Cfpo utilizes technology, including extensive use of the internet, video, and social media to amplify our message to the public. As a small organization, it's vital that every available resource be used to reach the widest audience, in the most effective manner possible. Cfpo also assists in the training of firefighters, both in recertification (such as wildfire operations), and in operational readiness.
