Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: The Mission of California Coastal Horse Rescue is to rescue abandoned, abused, neglected and slaughter-bound horses and to provide them with a second chance for healthy and productive lives. CCHR horses have been rescued from a wide range of serious situations including abandonment, neglect and potential slaughter. CCHR also rescues horses whose owners can no longer afford to care for them. CCHR provides shelter, food, veterinary care, farrier services, rehabilitation, and adoption services for the horses in its care. It also offers long-term sanctuary to disabled and elderly horses. With a combination of specialized care and loving support, all horses rescued by CCHR are given the opportunity to heal, thrive and to lead happy and peaceful lives.

I volunteered at CCHR for 3 years.
I ended being adopted by Johnny who had been there for 10 years. He really stole my heart. Had the CCHR not been there for him I know my finding him would not have happened. They are an amazing organization!

So much love and care for the horses here. Their events for children with special needs is so valuable to both the children and horses. The Fall and Spring Fundraisers are not to be missed.

Joining the CCHR family to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome horses in need has given my life purpose. The rescue is made up of a group of volunteers passionate about giving horses in need a second chance at happiness, helping each other, and helping our community! It is a privilege to help these horses who have entrusted us to give them the absolute best care at the rescue while they await their forever home. An added bonus of working at a rescue is when you find that special heart horse or rather that horse finds you!

I volunteered at CCHR for about four years. It was my first experience working with horses. The managers were just amazingly dedicated, as were the other volunteers. Of course the horses themselves were the best part of all and I saw quite a few come and go, each with their own unique charm.
I plan to always visit them all whenever I’m in the area.

I have been going to California Coastal Horse Rescue for many years, and I have never met a group of people who work so hard and who want nothing more than to care for, protect, and help the horses live a better, happier life. The volunteers work around the clock and it shows through the changes seen at the horse rescue. Each year, the horse rescue continuously runs fundraisers, community events, and reaches out to local schools and organizations to bring awareness and support to the horse rescue. Each horse is individually cared for and treated based on his/hers own needs and health conditions, and it shows, as each horse drastically improves in his/hers overall health and happiness. The California Coastal Horse Rescue is truly one of a kind, as the hours spent there by those who help keep it running, are filled with nothing but genuine care and love for the overall well-being of all the horses. Visiting the Horse Rescue is one of my favorite things to do! From the Winter BBQs, to horse-themed crafts at fundraisers, children book readings events, posters and pictures, it has created a community that feels like home.

This is the best run horse rescue in California for sure. The horses are treated with a lot of respect, patience and a great deal of knowledge. The people working here are amazing and kind hearted. The facilities are very well kept and you can see this is a happy place, for horses, dogs, cats and humans!

The volunteers at this rescue are amazing! Some of the most noble-hearted folks I have ever met. The volunteers care so deeply about the horses and it shows in the care and support they provide to the horses. Horses are truly rehabilitated and great forever homes are found for them. This rescue is 100% volunteer, no salaries are paid.
