The university serves a diverse body of 1,603 undergraduate and 603 graduate students. Our 2,206 students include 34 percent self-identify as being part of a minority group: 11 percent identify as black, 19 percent report hispanic heritage, 3 percent indicate an asian background and 1 percent report two or more races. Women comprise 68 percent of the university's undergraduate students and 82 percent of graduate students. About 11 percent of caldwell undergraduates are international students representing 42 countries, including a sizeable group of students from nepal. 587 of students reside on campus as of september 2017, which is a 96 percent resident hall occupancy rate. 82 percent of caldwell undergraduates are from new jersey with another 22 states and territories represented. The share of first-time freshmen that are first generation is significant. 34% of first-time full-time freshmen have parents with no college experience. 90 percent of undergraduates attend full-time while 72 percent of graduate students attend part time. A 12:1 student to faculty ratio highlights the individualized mentorship and instruction that characterize a caldwell education. To enable access to the university for all deserving students, caldwell contributed over $24m of total financial aid for scholarships, grants and other aid. 99 percent of first-time full time freshman receive some type of financial aid (federal, state, loans, institutional and/or private. Caldwell offers 30 undergraduate degree programs and 30 graduate degree and certificate programs, including doctoral programs in education leadership and a doctoral program in applied behavior analysis, the first in new jersey. An online master's in higher education launched in 2016, joining other fully online programs including a flexible and in demand rn to bsn degree completion program. Additional academic programs and services include professional and peer tutoring; academic coaching; career development services; learning community for underprepared students; honors program; academic internships and the eof mentoring and financial support program for minority students. Caldwell was reaccredited in 2015 by the middle states commission for higher education and received two commendations from the commission for the quality of its self-study report and for the inclusivity of its process. Specialized accreditation further attests to program quality and vigor, providing graduates with a differentiated career credential and enabling them to stand out competitively during hiring and acceptance into advanced degree programs. Specialized accreditors that have awarded accreditation to caldwell's programs include the accreditation council for business schools and programs; council for accreditation of counseling and related education programs; teacher education accreditation council; commission on collegiate nursing education and the association for behavior analysis international. Caldwell offers one of only two accredited art therapy programs in the nation. Caldwell is a leader in autism education, a scientific discipline known to help children with autism spectrum disorders. The college's state-of-the-art autism center benefits children and their families in new jersey. Caldwell is an ncaa intercollegiate division ii school offering 14 sports for men and women with athletic conference affiliations in the cacc and the ecac. In 2016, the collegiate sprint football league accepted caldwell's application to participate as its ninth member joining schools such as armt, navy, university of pennsylvania and cornell. Caldwell university's sprint football team made its debut in fall 2017, along with the addition of a marching band. The division of education has active principal and superintendent roundtables. External funding from corporate and foundation sources continues to grow and remain strong. Fiscal 2016 was a good year for competitive non-government major grants from new funders as well as support from prior benefactors such as the healthcare foundation of new jersey, george i. Alden trust, robert wood johnson foundation, and partners for health foundation. To create and sponsor a spirituality and leadership institute and received multuple grants that permitted the renovation and expansion of classroom space for its cacrep accredited masters prograin in mental health counseling/art therapy specialization.
