My wife and I are retired and seven weeks ago we decided we were ready to have a dog again. Looking online, we found the kind of small lively dog we wanted. He turned out to be a chihuahua/miniature pinscher mix (no relation to Dobermans) - small, affectionate, very lively, and known as McKinney. We filed an online application and were quickly contacted by the Caldwell County Animal Coalition (CCAC) from Texas which is a rescue operation. There are many such rescue groups operating across the south mostly because neutering dogs is much less common down there which causes a large surplus of abandoned dogs. The majority of dog owners we have met in Rhode Island since we adopted have adopted dogs from similar rescue organizations down south. Everyone I contacted at CCAC was clearly an animal lover and was primarily concerned that any animal they placed would go to a safe, loving home. They interviewed us and sent questionnaires to make sure we were serious, responsible, and had the resources to provide a good home for McKinney. After we satisfied this process, we were given more information about McKinney and were sent photos and also videos of McKinney interacting affectionately with his foster mother. We signed a contract committing us to provide a safe, nonviolent home for McKinney, to pay a $350 fee plus $300 for transportation from Texas to Rhode Island, and for them to send us McKinney along with records documenting that he had all his shots, was healthy, and was neutered. This all happened and after a few weeks we received McKinney from a truck transport which also brought other dogs arriving for other adopters in Rhode Island.Although a significant responsibility, McKinney has been an absolute joy for us and is now a loved part of our family. Because he apparently survived outdoors on his own for most of his life, he’s only now learning his name and the basic commands of come, sit, stay, etc. Happily, he did arrive house-trained which was a requirement of ours. We learned that in late October McKinney had been found badly wounded in an area where people often dump unwanted dogs and they often then get shot by the locals. McKinney had a large bullet wound in his side and CCAC’s vet successfully operated on him and for another medical issue, and she then took him into her home to recuperate for a month!CCAC then placed McKinney into a foster home with another affectionate woman and after a month McKinney came to us where he and we have been very happy. We highly recommend the Caldwell County Animal Coalition (CCAC) and other such groups which find homes for unwanted animals while also providing adopters basic information upfront about the animals who have had health issues addressed and shots and neutering taken case of. You could also donate to CCAC because taking in unwanted animals, providing medical treatment if needed as well as shots and neutering, finding them good, safe temporary and then permanent homes, and maintaining a transportation network for out of state adopters is all very costly.

We could not have had a better experience with CCACtx. Kei, Suzy, Rachel, Honorio, and Morgan are so amazing. Everyone from the adoption process, to the foster, to the transport, could not have been more kind, helpful, and communicative. The process was very smooth and informative and it couldn’t be more clear that everyone at CCACtx loves the animals in their care. I would recommend 100 times over that people adopt from them, and if I ever want a second pup, I will be back!

Suzy is beyond amazing. Our granddaughter’s cat suffered a bad broken leg from a fall. The expense of amputating was not affordable for her nor her grandparents who are raising her. We would have found a way somehow since our granddaughter’s heart was broken. We were blessed by Suzy’s getting involved. She has a heart of gold and found help for us. What a wonderful organization.

Our family has been searching for the right dog for our lifestyle for a while. Luckily, my mom saw Fritz McNugget on the CCAC website. My mom, son and I all agreed we should fill out an application. Kei responded quickly, filling us in on the adoption process and Suzy set up a meet and greet. We made the drive from Hutto to Lockhart in hopes of finding “the one.” There were some other cuties being fostered by Suzy, but we knew Fritz was the one for us. Suzy was very informative and helped the process go quickly and smoothly. She even checked in on us the following day to see how things were going. I highly recommend adopting a pet from this organization. The pups will be glad you did!

Suzy and the volunteers of CCAC are so awesome! We were lucky to meet our sweet puppy Coco who was rescued with her young siblings, and it was instant love. Suzy was really helpful through the process of adopting, and she is doing incredible work for animal welfare. This organization doesn’t just rescue, they provide valuable resources to improve the lives of animals and are working hard to decrease the tragic situations that too many animals still face.

Thanks for everything CCAC!

Wonderful group of people. They truly devote their time to care for animals. I recently was given Daisy, a female chihuahua, because my sister couldn't take care of her anymore. Daisy had puppies to my surprise. This group helped me foster these cuties. My experience with CCAC has been awesome . The puppies are ready to adopt .

I recently had to say goodbye to my nineteen-year-old Husky/Shepherd mix, Anakin. In honor of his memory, I wanted to adopt another rescue. Suzy Falgout of #CACCTX reached out to me about Evie, one of 100 chihuahuas rescued from a hoarding situation. Evie is a little doll who loves everyone. She is such a joy. I can't imagine life without her, and I'll be forever grateful to Suzy for choosing me to adopt Evie.

Such an amazing group. When I found a stray dog. They were able to help me navigate through what to do and get the dogs shots/ preventions and neutered. We live in a rural area so they are so many loose and dumped dogs. They are helping so much with spaying/ neutering to help keep from more and more stray puppies. So helpful and so kind.

I've had half a dozen animals cats and dogs whom we have rescued taken care of by this CCAC. A few months back I found several dumped dogs on the side of the road, and Suzy was quick to help me and them. Rescue is hard already and without non profits like this one, we'd see thousands of more animals die without their intervention. My many rescued felines and I thank you for all you do. Much love and respect.

I can’t say enough good things about CCAC. They show an incredible amount of empathy and love to every animal they care for. They have helped me spay/neuter and microchip all of my animals. They have come to scan animals that have been found near my home numerous times and provided them with vaccinations. They have an unwavering commitment to every animal that they foster, rehome, help medically, or give a place to heal and feel safe in the in between. I am beyond grateful for this rescue and the team of volunteers who give countless hours to ensure the voiceless have a voice. If you are looking to adopt or to support a rescue that truly cares for the animals this is the place!

Not only has Caldwell County Animal Coalition (CCAC) provided thousands of low cost spay and neuter clinics (which also includes vaccinations, and micro chips) for Caldwell County and Hays County. They also help animals that need emergency care and surgery. A dog named Foxy Lady was hit by a car and taken to San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter (SMRAS). She had a hernia that allowed her bladder to squeeze through and be on the outside of her body. She also had a broken femor. SMRAS reached out to CCAC. They were able to get a surgical specialist to put her bladder where it belonged in her body. This was a three hour surgery with complications. Foxy Lady is thriving and being gentle, beautiful eight month old pup. The surgery was $3500. This is what CCAC does, they go above and beyond to help animals. See Foxy Lady before and after pictures.

We lost one of our beloved fur babies in April of this year. We began our search to adopt soon after. We found Verbena at Calwell County Animal Coalition. We are in love with Verbena, our adorable cinnamon 9.5 lb. Chiweenie that Suzy provided us in early May ‘24. Verbena is a charmer and a cuddler and loves rumbling with her 40 lb. big sister Daisy.

They both enjoy golf cart rides, field trips in the car, and tummy rubs galore.

Suzy provides great advice as needed for her pups and is always available to answer any questions.
Her loving kindness toward these babies is evident as she interviews each potential new mom and dad.
We appreciate the loving care Suzy provides in finding, caring for, and ferreting out the best furever homes for the charges in her care at her Caldwell County Lockhart TX nonprofit.

Caldwell county’s animal overpopulation would be so much worse if CCAC did not exist and offer their regular low cost clinics/ vaccinations/ and constant resources to the community. There’s no one local doing the work they do as effectively as they do it. Suzy’s passion and love for these animals is the driving force behind the impressive impact of this relatively small operation. My newfound confidence in fostering is ONLY as a result of Suzy consistently being available upon me finding strays to check for chips, deworm & vaccinate them immediately - along with other fostering needs (food, crates, leash, etc). Admittedly if they weren’t available as a resource I would not offer my home or time to foster, as it feels like far too much to navigate without their continual guidance. With their help, I’ve seen 3 of my rescues find loving homes that adore them just as they deserve.

I wanted to do the right thing and get them all spayed, vaccinated and microchipped ready for their new potential family.

I am so grateful for this nonprofit group and all they do for these furry angels to give them a chance in a loving home.

All you have to do is register/pay and show up day of surgery. Many volunteers are there to assist with drop off and registration. When you're pet is ready, you will get a call/text.

All were great post surgery, no complications!

The volunteers at the Caldwell County Animal Coalition (CCAC) are incredibly dedicated to their mission of finding loving homes for animals. They take the time to get to know each pet and ensure they are matched with the perfect family, even if it means transporting animals across the US to make the ideal match.

Here are some of the things I appreciate about CCAC:

* They are committed to finding loving homes for all animals, regardless of age, breed, or medical condition.
* They take the time to get to know each animal and match them with the perfect family.
* They provide all animals with the medical care they need before adoption.
* They are transparent about the animal's history and temperament.
* They conduct thorough interviews before approving adoption applications and remain in communication with the adopting families.

They are passionate about their mission and make a real difference in the lives of animals in need. If you are looking to adopt a pet, I highly recommend CCAC. They are a wonderful organization that is doing amazing work!

We lost our dear boy Rocket, who was attacked and killed by a vicious dog while out on a walk with his sister Birdie a few months ago. Rocket came to us From Texas, thin, sick but with beautiful brown and forgiving eyes and turned into the absolute best boy we ever had, only to be taken from us for no reason. We slowly began to heal and open up to the idea of helping another animal in need when we came upon Martini on the internet one day. She’s almost a mirror image of our dear boy Rocket and some say that maybe he sent her to us. We contacted CCAC and Martini’s foster family and the rest is history. We are eagerly awaiting Martinis arrival this weekend and can’t wait to welcome her to a great life full of love and adventure. CCAC listened to our story and I believe we made a connection. They are very thorough and very concerned about where these animals are going. We are in constant communication with her foster and they all keep us updated. I can’t thank them enough for all the selfless time, energy and commitment to these animals. They are the voice for those who can not speak and do a job that most talk about but never do. This is sometimes a thankless job, but Suzy and CCAC continue to show up and help when needed.
