Mission: The Mission of Cakes for Cause is to provide real work experience and skills to youth who are being served in public housing or who are in foster care or have aged out of foster care in Maryland.
Results: We opened our social enterprise in October 2009. In the past year, it has generated more than $200,000 to directly support the youth in our program. We have graduated 3 young people from the program and currently have six youth working at Moxie.
Target demographics: 16-21 year old youth who are aging out of the foster care system, have aged out of the foster care system, have been adopted out of the foster care system, or who are living in public housing
Direct beneficiaries per year: 12-18 youth
Programs: Social enterprise bakery providing job training and support to youth in frederick, md who have aged out of foster care or who live in public housing, offering real work experience and learning opportunities.

As the mother of an adopted child, I often think of what my daughter's life would be like had we not found her. This organization makes it their MISSION to help children who are on the verge of "aging out" of the foster care system by serving as a "working classroom" ... providing work/life skills and ENCOURAGEMENT to these vulnerable youth. Otherwise...who knows where they might end up in life. I feel fantastic about ordering my bakery goodies from Cakes for Cause/Moxie Bakery & Café. Such a wonderful organization.
