Mission: The bureau of jewish education is the primary resource of jewish education within the community and beyond. The bureau of jewish education provides educational and social services to the jewish and general community of indianapolis through various programs.
Programs: Early childhood education: the early childhood education program offers classes and programs for children ages 1-6. The students are exposed to a multi-sensory, multi-cultural educational curriculum highlighting jewish values and rituals. Students receive support to grow both educationally and emotionally as is age appropriate. There are many after school enrichment programs offered as well to help educate each child's mind, body and soul. The ece program will be closed at the end of school year, june 2015.
hebrew school includes the following programs: elementary school: this program offers after-school supplemental hebrew educational for children grades 3-6. Students learn both siddur (prayer-book) hebrew and modern hebrew language. The students also receive private tutoring in preparation for their bat/bar mitzvah services. Hebrew high school: this program continues to build on the elementary hebrew program for children grades 8-10. The students also increase their knowledge of modern israel. Adult education: this program works to provide continuing hebrew educational programs for adults and coordinates adult communal learning experiences. All of the bje education programs are run in cooperation with our local synagogue partners. Students who live too far away to attend in person may participate via the bje distance learning platform.
holocaust educational initiative: the bje provides teacher training to teachers in both public and private schools throughout the state of indiana to help ensure that the holocaust is taught appropriately and accurately. Each year teachers have many opportunities to attend in person and distance learning seminars to enhance their knowledge. The bje also provides a holocaust trunk programs for teachers to request supporting materials to their lessons and a holocaust speakers' bureau. The bje works with the jewish community relations council in providing the educational support to holocaust remembrance programs sponsored by the state martin luther king memorial celebration committee at the statehouse and by the mayor of carmel, indiana. The bje also serves as the coordinator for communal educational programs through the jewish educational directors' council.
