Volunteering Oportunities

Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Bunny World Foundation (BWF) is an ALL-Volunteer, Foster-Based Non-Profit 501(c)3 animal welfare organization founded in 2008 in Los Angeles, CA, formed to promote (Shelter) Equity and Equality for Rabbits, BWF's mission is to combat animal cruelty, illegal animal sales, exploitation, and neglect of all animals, through rescue efforts, public education, investigations, legislation, events, and media attention. In addition, BWF works to reduce rabbit overpopulation and establish rabbits as companion animals that deserve the same individual rights, level of care, and opportunity for longevity as cats and dogs that live as human companions. BWF manages a complex Foster & Adoption Program that requires constant strengthening and expansion to accommodate new rescues and provide for their intensive care, medication, supplies, and Spay/Neuter funds. BWF has 350 volunteers/fosters and rescues 1000-1500 abandoned and abused domestic rabbits annually.

Hardest working animal rescue! My husband and I got involved with Bunny World Foundation in 2014 after spotting one of their Facebook posts regarding the horrors of Santee Alley illegal baby-bunny peddling. I called BWF. It was a late-night hour, but BWF Founder - Lejla Hadzimuratovic answered. It was an enlightening, yet heartbreaking conversation that changed my husband's and my life... the moment I hung up the phone, I said to him - "We're going to help bunnies." We met with Lejla right away, and the meeting was wonderful, as we learned that Lejla shared a common goal with us to never cause ANY animals harm in any way; an ethical stance that, due to speciesism, is sadly not often found among animal rescues. Neither my husband nor I had ever had bunnies in our lives, and also never new of the incalculable misery suffered by their poor species. We were ashamed to have lived so long as devout animal-lovers and advocates but had never discovered the horrible plight of domestic rabbits worldwide - the worst suffering imaginable! We began volunteering and fostering with BWF right away in 2014, and have never slowed down to this day. Why? Because BWF rescue is by far the strongest organization that makes the most difference for the greatest number of desperate rabbits. And I say that as a very tough customer in the world of animal advocacy. BWF is one of three "New Hope Partners" with Los Angeles Animal Services and consistently FAR-EXCEEDS what is expected from a rescue given that privilege. By contrast, the shelter-rabbit rescue involvement of one of the other three New Hope Partner non-profit organizations is close to non-existent -- as is their rescuing of rabbits from other areas of need. During my near-decade of volunteering, I've noticed that particular "rabbit rescue" organization operates like a FOR-profit, as they benefit greatly from their pet store and rabbit-boarding facility, but year-after-year fail to pull medically-alerted shelter rabbits... and yet no one criticizes their exploitation of a non-profit status and New Hope Partner privileges. Much criticism is heaped upon the hardest working volunteers -- such as the BWF team... it's a puzzling side of human nature that there are people who enjoy bashing those who work the hardest and have the most to be proud of. I'm no therapist, but I'm sure there's a textbook "reason" for that low behavior. Since 2008, BWF has pulled death-row rabbits from across numerous shelters in and around L.A., and rescuing huge numbers from hoarding cruelty, at-risk rabbits on Craigslist, they've rescued rabbits from cruel vivisection labs, wildfire emergencies, street-dumped rabbits, owner-surrender rabbits bought on whims during the tragic Easter and Christmas intensified bunny-exploitation. The amount of time, effort, funds, love, worry, stress, and skill that BWF puts into rescuing each individual rabbit, and seeing each individual all the way through to being ready for fostering/adoption IS COLOSSAL! BWF volunteers do everything in their power to uphold promises made to the rescued animals -- before, during, and forever after each adoption. Take if from me, it's hard work that never stops, and most people never understand the 24/7/365 pace of BWF core volunteer work. On top of volunteering 100+ hours a week for BWF rescue all these years, the founder/president, Lejla H., has spearheaded legislative efforts on behalf of domestic rabbits; and the battles have been frustrating! But she fights on during City Council meetings, and with L.A. Animal Services, etc.. And if you think it's overboard to work this hard for domestic rabbit welfare because - "They're just rabbits" - then you've never truly loved a rabbit... a fragile prey animal whose species has been tortured by humans in more ways, and in larger numbers than any other domestic animal. Helping the suffering rabbits is working at the ROOT of helping humanity. I would not trust ANYONE who shows disregard or disrespect for the most vulnerable among us... and domestic rabbits just that. Lejla's high-achieving skill set could have her enjoying any kind of life. But here she STILL is, fighting for animals who the world won't stop mistreating. And as more and more people are unwilling to be inconvenienced, there are those who arrive to help, but then turn into mudslingers when accepting responsibility for helpless animals isn't the rose-colored version they expected. Volunteering/fostering helpless animals in a foster-based, high-volume rescue that is BWF is not a hobby that one can take up and then drop when it becomes inconvenient. In spite of stressing in writing the seriousness of fostering/volunteering, people still don't take the commitment seriously, and when their demands cannot be met, they turn hateful. But, within BWF's community of loyal volunteers and fosters, truly the best of humanity is found. BWF is a collection of the most amazing humans I'll ever encounter. The same is true of BWF supporters and donors. They believe in the work, and they understand the thankless nature of it. More than anyone on Earth, I am the person most aware of Lejla's sacrifices and grueling, non-stop, heartbreaking hard work for the bunnies. There never has been, and there never will be a greater champion for those poor animals. I myself have given almost ten years of my life working my butt off for the sweet souls we call bunnies. But would I take the helm of BWF? NO WAY -- it is the kind of work that would literally kill me. I am not a people-person, because I've seen too many so-called "good people" being unkind toward animals in their life choices. I'm a very harsh judge of character. But I stand by Lejla because she doesn't just talk the talk, she walks the walk. She slaves for these animals at her own peril. BWF has rescued tens of thousands of bunnies who would otherwise have suffered until a miserable death, or be killed in shelters for having TREATABLE illnesses/injuries. The rabbits deserve respect, but are treated like disposable non-beings. BWF fights to show their worth and complexities, and their value to the human race! What the rabbits reveal in their human caregivers is often surprising. Rabbits will show you who you are... for better or worse. It is now almost a decade later in 2023, and my husband and I continue to foster and volunteer at the busiest core level of BWF in spite of being so busy ourselves, and also having a full house of free-roaming rescued bunnies who we love beyond words and require long hours of chores. A society can be judged by how it treats the most vulnerable. But often, people treat the poor helpless rabbits like trifles or novelties to have around, and then be rid of once inconvenient. So Lejla must be what she always has been -- tough, but fair. These poor bunnies, these silent survivors of human cruelty and neglect deserve nothing less. I am every single day in the trenches of BWF organization, and I see it all. I am so proud to be a BWF foster/volunteer, and so rewarded by the results of my hard work. It's so easy to criticize an organization of volunteers who have no time or resources to tackle the falsehoods because they are way too busy doing the hard work of rescuing. Hopefully one day we will be able to expose the truth about those people who spread falsehoods and conveniently leave out the true facts, and expose those who hide behind fake names in their campaigns of hate. But even as I write this, I am needed elsewhere to help the poor bunnies and those who care about them. But I am happy to share my perspective as a long-term veteran in BWF rescue. If you have read this far, I thank you. As always, please never breed, buy, sell, exploit, give away, or dump a bunny.

I had been wanting to get back into volunteering and fostering and I'm so glad I found Bunny World Foundation! It is clear they really care about saving rabbits and prioritize their safety and making sure they find the best homes. I love being surrounded by bunnies and the cuteness of my fosters Diego and Miss Eats A Lot add to it! It is a joy to be able to care for them on this step in their journey to finding their forever home!

Bunny World Foundation is an excellent rescue for all things bunnies! I started fostering with Bunny World Foundation when the LA Fires broke out, leaving lots of displaced bunnies. I am a huge animal lover but had no experience with bunnies. They really took the time to teach me all about these gentle, precious creatures and set me up with the most adorable pair to foster - Fernie and Drew Bunnymore (did I mention they are excellent at naming? Lol)! My life has been enriched ever since! :) If you are looking to adopt a bunny into your home (and you definitely should!) this is a great place to go. They are bunny experts and encourage all questions, have a great community, and tons of mentors to help get you started. They have all types of bunnies available for adoption as they are constantly rescuing as many as they can from shelters, owner surrenders, abandoned bunnies, etc. It's an excellent rescue and the founder has the biggest heart!

I was looking to adopt a companion for my solo bunny and came across Bunny World Foundation (BWF) through Instagram and Petfinder. From the moment I reached out, Lejla guided me through the entire adoption process and explained BWF’s mission in detail. Their dedication to rescuing bunnies in need and finding them loving forever homes is truly inspiring. Not only did I find a companion bun for my solo, but I adopted two! Now we have a trio :)

Beyond adoptions, BWF offers incredible resources like grooming workshops and the Bunny Chateau, which I use each time I go on vacation—such a lifesaver & gives me peace of mind to know that they have a bunny-knowledgeable caregiver. BWF also has a built-in network of bunny owners that you can turn to for advice, assistance or anything bunny-related. It’s clear that they pour their hearts into every aspect of bunny care and welfare. If you’re looking to adopt, learn, or support a fantastic rabbit rescue, I can’t recommend BWF enough!

I started fostering Lola Blue from Bunny World Foundation after she was surrendered during the LA wildfires, and I immediately fell in love with her. At the time, I had a single boy bunny and started thinking about bonding them.
Lejla, the owner of BWF, was so patient, kind, and understanding while I took my time deciding whether to adopt Lola. When she was finally spayed and I made the decision to adopt her, I was under a very tight time crunch because I was moving to Colorado soon. Lejla was incredibly kind and went above and beyond to make sure the bunnies were bonded, happy, and healthy before I left. She even got me a vet appointment for both bunnies that same week, which I really appreciated.
The day before moving, I also attended a grooming workshop at BWF. I learned so many great tips I did not know before, and even though it was a busy day, Lejla personally made sure both my bunnies were groomed well before the end of the day.
It is clear that Lejla, Jane, and the staff at BWF genuinely care about all the bunnies they help. They really put thought into making sure the bunnies go to the right homes and get the love they deserve. I have learned so much about bunny care, and I still learn more through the community Facebook group.
Whenever I had questions, they were always there to help, whether by phone-call, email, or in-person, offering kind and consistent support throughout the entire process. I am so thankful for everything they did for me and my bunnies!

I have had my bunny, arty, for 4 years and I went through Bunny World Foundation to rescue a new companion for arty. From the get-go, Bunny World Foundation made this process extremely comfortable for me and arty. With their guidance and support, I rescued a 6 month old holland lop bunny. But it didn’t stop there…arty and her new bachelor, bentley, stayed at the bunny chateau through the Bunny World Foundation to begin their bonding process. A week later, I picked up the two buns and they were happy as can be. I am eternally grateful for all of the volunteers that are part of this foundation. They are full of knowledge and I wouldn’t want to experience this process with any other foundation! THANK YOU BUNNY WORLD FOUNDATION!

Bunny World Foundation holds a very special place in my heart. The work they do to rescue and protect rabbits, is nothing short of extraordinary. Lejla, the amazing founder, has poured her heart and soul into this mission, and it truly shows. Her dedication, compassion, and unwavering advocacy for these innocent animals are beyond inspiring.

I’ve personally been touched by the care and effort they put into every single adoption event. It’s not just about saving lives; it’s about educating the community, raising awareness, and making a lasting difference. Lejla and her team are heroes to so many bunnies who would otherwise have no voice.

If you haven’t already, I highly encourage you to check out Bunny World Foundation. Support their work, spread the word, or even just learn more about what they do—you won’t regret it! Thank you, Lejla and the BWF team, for all the love and light you bring into the world. Keep up the incredible work!

My partner has two bunnies, and together, we have fostered several through Bunny World Foundation over the last couple of years. It’s been a joy to watch the foster bunnies slowly open up, showcasing their distinct little personalities. I never thought I’d live with rabbits, but thanks to BWF I’ve learned so much about them. I’ve enjoyed attending social BWF events with my partner, celebrating the hard work of the fosters and volunteers.

I have volunteered for BWF for over six years and there hasn’t been a day where I haven’t learned something new and felt accepted and loved by the community there. I came from knowing next to nothing to now teaching others and it’s all thanks to the founder Lejla. They always will be there for you and any rabbits you may have and are always quick on their feet in emergency cases. It’s obvious how much passion and love everyone there carries within them there and I would 100% recommend them to anyone who wants to volunteer, adopt, foster anything.

I adopted Peppercini and Marshmallow from Bunny World Foundation a couple weeks ago and I’m so happy! They were orphaned in 2022 at just a few weeks old and thankfully BWF rescued them. They are super sweet bunnies and I’m glad I could give them a forever home. Everyone at Bunny World Foundation was really helpful and helped me find the perfect bunnies for me. The volunteers are so kind and always answer any questions I have about taking care of my bunnies. They work so hard to rescue and take care of all the bunnies!

I’m a huge animal lover, I always have been. I came across bunny world’s Instagram one day and try to always help where I can. I already had my girl bun but my heart is always open to animals. One day BWF was in search of a foster for a mama bun and her babies. I reached out and we agreed a pair would be a better fit to foster. I filled out all of the paper work and BWF verified my home was fit for my fosters. They set me up with a mentor and I picked up my foster buns, Oliver and Clara. BWF was so helpful through the whole process and the community is so knowledgeable and quick to reply whenever questions arise. I’ve learned so much and continue to learn from everyone involved. BWF even helped me out with my girl bun when she had a medical emergency after her spay. After a few months of fostering my original girl bun was still by herself and was very curious about the new pair in our spare room. Eventually we decided to get her a husbun. We adopted Coop (Cola) from BWF in October 2022. He’s the absolute sweetest boy, I couldn’t have asked for a better addition. My husband and I recently relocated to the PNW from LA and when faced with the choice to return our foster buns to BWF or give them a forever home, we decided to adopt Oliver and Clara and bring them with us. BWF bonded our 2 pairs while we went on vacation and when we came back they were one big lovable fluffle! I’m so thankful to come across a foundation that does so much for these little creatures and their advocates. I really appreciate their focus on educating people. People truly don’t understand how much work and care goes into being a bunny parent. I hope BWF can continue to save the bunnies, acquire more amazing fosters and educate people about proper bunny care.

I adopted my angels from BWF and it’s changed my life. Now, everyone knows me as the bunny person. I am obsessed with them. They are my whole being. Life without them was a sad and lonely place. Now, I am also fostering these adorable black and white buns. I am so grateful they brought my babies into my life and saved my foster bunny who was going to be euthanized!

One of my poor babies had some medical issues, between the owner and many volunteers, they literally helped save my babies life! I’ve adopted from and fostered with BWF and have now volunteered with BWF for about a year. They are an amazing, hardworking volunteer organization truly working overtime to find these rabbits good homes. I have learned so much about rabbit care from working with BWF. Rabbits are not easy pets and take dedicated, specialized care. It’s unfortunate to see BWF take heat from disgruntled fosters and adopters who don’t seem to understand the complexities of bunnies. The bunnies are the #1 priority of BWF! BWF does everything they can for the bunnies with limited resources (no facilities), and goes above and beyond for the community by offering other services (boarding and grooming).

BWF is truly the greatest rabbit rescue in LA! Not only do they provide proper care and love for the bunnies, but they provide proper care info and learning sessions to anyone who adopts or who is interested in adopting! They have saved the lives of so many bunnies (including 5/6 bunnies I have owned or currently own) and will continue to do so. This rescue is the only rabbit rescue I’ve seen this far that truly loves and advocates for rabbits and rabbit welfare.

Bunny World Foundation is run by a group of dedicated volunteers who truly care about the welfare of rabbits. When I first began to look for a place to adopt a rabbit, the foundation’s name came to my attention. After doing some research, I attended one of their adoption events and was amazed to see a group of dedicated volunteers taking care of abandoned and neglected bunnies. Individuals interested in adopting or fostering a rabbit are properly vetted to make sure that these animals enter a safe and loving environment. The foundation also operates a grooming workshop to educate individuals on proper, rabbit brushing techniques and health checks. If you decide to adopt or foster a rabbit (or two), the foundation is always available to answer your questions. Rabbits are exotic pets which require special attention. When in trouble or need, Bunny World is always available for assistance. After adopting two bunnies last fall, my wife and I fostered two abandoned bunnies that were rescued by Bunny World. It resulted in a “foster-fail” after which Bunny World bonded my foursome. This is the “go-to” place if anyone should have any bonding issues. Recently, I boarded my four bunnies for one week while I was out of town. It typically becomes an issue for any pet owner when it comes to boarding pets. However, with Bunny World, I can comfortably relax knowing that my rabbits will be in a safe, clean, and loving environment. The Bunny World staff is overwhelmed with the number of bunnies that are abandoned, abused, and neglected. Therefore, the public’s help is needed to support their efforts and to educate others not to adopt these lovable animals as temporary or short-term pets. Overall, the Bunny World Foundation has provided me a positive experience…so positive that I sometimes think that maybe, I should adopt another bun or two…just maybe…..!

The folks at BWF are super passionate about what they do. There is a Facebook community page where all questions are welcome & experienced bunny owners are super generous with their experience and knowledge. I love that they take a lot of consideration into where the bunnies land, like whether there are young children, and if the adoptees will have a bonded buddy. They are holistic in their approach to giving the sheltered bunnies a good life. My guys are thriving & great company. :D

When our little Sunshine (small fawn Lionhead) needed a bonded partner, BWF bonded her with Dino (large white Himalayan on the right). It was a match made in Heaven !
After returning from their "Bunnymoon" at BWF, they have happily settled in at home, and do everything together...eating greens, drinking water, eating treats, and coming for petting. We are absolutely delighted with the loving and professional care that BWF gave our bride and groom !

Experience with BWF was amazing! I checked in my Poppy at the Bunny Chateau over the holidays and they noticed that she was kinda lonely. I’ve been planning to get her a husbun for a while and Lejla and Jane were right there to help me throughout the entire process! As a bunmom, I initially had a specific type of husbun that I wanted for Poppy but later then realized that it was ultimately not my decision who she connects with! During her date, a really loving and gentle REW named Bijou approached Poppy and started giving her kisses and that’s when I knew that they’ve found each other. Although it wasn’t what I would’ve wanted for myself, I knew I couldn’t get in the way of what makes my Poppy girl happy. And now I’ve never seen two bunnies so in love. Thank you BWF for everything!!! So happy with my lil bunfam ❤️

If you’re like me, and have spent years wanting a rabbit, looking up how to care for them, looking at adoption listings online, then I promise you getting that lovely friend (or in my case friends) is totally worth it. I was very nervous about the whole adoption process but Bunny World Foundation made it incredibly easy!

They gave me all the information I needed to provide the best care to my new pets, and helped me build the best apartment setup for them that I could! Not to mention they provide a great sense of community! When it was time to attend an adoption event I very quickly fell in love with Tia and Moose! And in under an hour they were adopted! One of the best decisions I’ve ever made, they bring me endless joy!

Please don’t shop when there are so many rabbits waiting to be adopted and loved. Bunny World Foundation does so much for its rabbits. One of my pets, Tia, was rescued from a bunny mill, and I’m very happy I can give her a better life thanks for Bunny World Foundation.

I found BWF through a rescue page that was trying to save a rabbit that was being given away on Offer Up. She had obviously been neglected and needed immediate care. I then saw that she was being rescued by BWF if they could find a foster for her. I contacted them, and ended up fostering a different bunny to open up space. Long story short I have adopted two and continue to foster. I have had house bunnies before, but have still learned SO MUCH from Lejla and Jane, as well as the other volunteers.
The bunnies they rescue are ones that would be euthanized due to treatable medical conditions. They are truly a wonderful organization taking care of society’s discards.
Also the adoption events and brushing clinics are so much fun! It’s great to be surrounded by caring people who love bunnies. I am so thankful to have found this amazing group of people

Thank you thank you for having a safe space for bunny parents to run to for help and advice! Beautiful wonderful humans! Lejla is so knowledgeable and kind thank you My bunny Hanna had entered IG statis and out of desperation I went to Conejo Valley not knowing they had a long history of incorrectly treating rabbits and them passing away under their care, I called Lejla and told her what was happening and she immediately redirected me to her vets and got me an appointment with Dr. Roberts at Northwood who is the absolute best in the field, shortly after being seen by her and given the correct treatment Hanna looked so much better and regained color from looking yellow and pale. I have no doubt that my baby would have passed away if it weren’t for Lejla.

I first became aware of BWF when I needed help with my pet rabbit of 8 years. She was sick, and it was a weekend, and I couldn't find an exotic vet office that had availability. As a Hail Mary, I tried calling a bunny rescue organization in hopes that they had any spare medicine. After Googling bunny rescues in my area, the one I decided to try was BWF. The person who answered the phone was none other than BWF's founder and president, Lejla Hadzimuratovic. She was driving to one of BWF's regular adoption events at the time, and she didn't really have spare time or energy to help me, but when she heard what I needed, she helped me anyway. She spent quite a while on the phone with me throughout the day, offering the names of vet offices that she trusted and that might have availability, and checking back in to see how it was all going. Thanks to her resources, I found a great office that had emergency care, and my bunny got the best care that she could.

Unfortunately, even with the great care I found with Lejla's help that day, it was my bunny's time to cross the rainbow bridge, as she had been on and off for quite a long time. A few days later, Lejla called me again just to check in, hoping everything had worked out. I told her how great the office was that I found, but that my bunny didn't make it. Lejla was very kind and sad, and offered her condolences. She also told me that if I needed anything or if I had any interest in volunteering with other bunnies in the future, that I was welcome to call.

My life without my bunny was heartbreaking and very quiet. I missed her so much, and I wanted to do something in honor of her. To me, the perfect gesture was to help other bunnies who needed help. I also just really wanted to be around bunnies. I used to be around a bunny every day, and I wanted to be close to more sweet balls of fluff. So, I called BWF.

For the past two years, I've been volunteering with BWF. I go to their adoption events once or twice a month and brush bunnies there so that they don't ingest too much of their fur and develop GI stasis, a condition that can sadly happen very quickly and very easily. With BWF's help, I've become a brushing-expert, which really comes in handy when I brush my now FOUR adopted bunnies, all who I love dearly and am incredibly grateful for. With BWF's help, I've learned how best to take care of bunnies, and all of my bunnies are incredibly healthy and happy, which makes me incredibly happy too. I've had the privilege of adopting bunnies who don't have a home or a family and give them a home, and offer them my care.

I'd adopted two bunnies at first, and then I fostered two bunnies for a while as well. My foster bunnies were so lovely, and I cared for them so much, that I finally decided to adopt them too. BWF also offers professional bunny-bonding services and boarding services, and they bonded my two pairs of bunnies while I traveled. When I came back home, there they were, all together! They were ready to all come home and be together all the time. And now, here they are: one is in the litter box, one is snoozing, and one is cleaning another one. That's what they always do; they relax with us (my partner and I), and they grow with us. Every day, the bond between us all grows stronger.

Thanks to BWF, I have bunnies in my life again. I feel confident that I'm caring for them extremely well, and I feel fulfilled by helping BWF keep other bunnies healthy. I can't recommend them highly enough. They work tirelessly and endlessly, rescuing every bunny they possibly can, and educating bunny owners with a huge amount of knowledge based on experience. If you're interested in volunteering, fostering, or adopting bunnies, you can't do better than the Bunny World Foundation.

We were so lucky to find Lejla and the Bunny World Foundation. She takes great care of not only our rabbit, but so many more who are not as lucky to have a permanent home. Bunnies are a misunderstood pet and so many get mistreated. The Bunny World Foundation works extremely hard to take care of these wonderful creatures and put all of their donations to good use.

My experience adopting my second, third, and fourth bunny through BWF has been great and I have remained involved.
Its obvious when you show up to the adoption events that there are a lot of moving parts to organize. EVERYONE
involved is investing their time on a completely volunteer basis, so it is not a surprise that the adoption events can be overwhelming for someone new. Before
adopting, I attended an event to get a better
understanding of the process and was able to set my expectations accordingly.
The adoption process is lengthy but directions are available, the FB group has a LOT of additional tips, and other volunteers willing to share their knowledge.
I'm glad I adopted through BWF- I've learned so much about how to properly care for my pets and it has brought a sense of community to my life.
I also use the Bunny Chateau when traveling and its comforting to know my bunnies are in experienced hands and will be cared for appropriately.

My bun was having a full body shutdown due to GI Stasis and a infection when we where forced with no other option except put her down. Bunny worlds Intervention saved her life and Is allowing for her to get a actual life she can be happy in. This is the best foundation I've seen to date and recommend it to be more main stream for everything they do

I've participated in many areas that this organization offers. I've been a foster to 5 bunnies. An adoptee of one bunny. And have used their bunny boarding service. Nothing but great experiences with all of those services. They are mainly volunteer based thus it can take some time to go through each process. However, it's a good experience overall. As a foster I was screened to make sure we would provide a safe home for the bunnies. I've been given guidance as needed. The fosters have opportunities each month to be adopted to good homes as each adopter is also screened thoroughly. As an adoptee I was given a free grooming workshop and 2 free vet visits. Also plenty of guidance. You won't get this anywhere else. I've bought bunnies in the past from breeders where yes, you get to choose exactly the bunny breed you want. However, you get zero guidance, the bunny is not fixed, and since I bought Holland lops they came with many health issues, and were not socialized. You will not find this experience with BWF as they make sure each bunny is ready to go home. Lastly, their bunny boarding was the best I could've asked for. It's with an experienced bunny person so I had zero worries about my bunnies not being home. I've heard horror stories from others who hired random people online to care for their pets only to come back to a sick pet. The only downside is that I had to drive a good hour to drop them off. I recommend this organization to anyone looking for a new bunny friend.

Adopted these two sweet rescue bunnies from BWF over a decade ago now. One recently crossed the rainbow bridge after a long and snuggly life as part of a bonded trio. The other is still with me and living his best life! BWF is an incredible organization that is tireless in their mission of rescuing as many at-risk bunnies as they can (and then some!) on a daily basis, and cultivating a deep community of dedicated bunny foster families to support the never-ending, ongoing need for loving, safe, and healthy homes for all the bunnies that are blessed enough to make their way to BWF. This organization is an incredible resource of information for bun parents, and the community is ready and willing to share expert tips and advice.

I adopted my beloved bunnies from BWF in 2018 and fostered 4 others over the span of a couple of years. The adoption process is more thorough than other rescues and that’s because BWF truly cares about the bunnies. Lejla is very knowledgeable and is always willing teach those that want to learn. The adoption events and workshops to properly teach people how to groom are great as well. The BWF community provides a ton of support to those who adopt through them and I’m forever grateful to be part of it.

I am so grateful to have found BWF; the work they do is a God-send and so needed for the often over-looked bunny population! I first found Lejla when I moved to L.A. in 2019 as I needed a trusted bunnysitter. What stood out to me about BWF was that it is a non-profit and they actively save and care for lives every single day. This isn't just a bunnysitting or bunny grooming service set up for profit - it is an organization built and run by pure love & compassion for bunnies. Lejla educated me SO much on my bun (who I had only had for a year at that point) and soon after I adopted my 2nd bunny thru BWF in 2020. With the help of this loving community, I learned how to best take care of my buns, trouble shoot issues, and always found help when I needed it. I recently lost my 2nd bunny, Cinnamon, and Lejla has been a shining light through my grief. I was able to adopt a 3rd bunny, and new partner to my 1st bunny , with BWF to help with the sadness in our hearts from Cinnamon's departure. What I admire most about BWF is how fervent Lejla & team are in discovering and sharing new & best ways to help our pets whether it's great doctors we can trust, best places to get hay, at-home remedies for minor issues, and especially how quick they will find you help in an emergency. If you are a bunny/animal lover, this is the place to find camaraderie, support, and love as you care for your little one!

I'm from out of state and have adopted three rabbits from Bunny World Foundation over the last 8 years.

Lelja is TIRELESS at the helm of BWF. She, her right-hand lady, Jane and the many BWF volunteers live and breathe constant rescue of these dear creatures.
From the first ever phone conversation I had with her, I could tell Lejla's heart and soul literally are with ALL animals really, but she's to the point of fighting tooth and claw for the much-overlooked population of rabbits desperately, desperately in need.
This is my perfect pretty princess Poppy-blind in one eye from an EC infection that also brought that eye to glaucoma. She is nearly 11 years old and I've had her for almost 8 years!
After years of treatment commenced by Bunny World, she has been clear of the glaucoma for the last 3 years!
She has some mobility issues that do not stop her for which the shared advice and tips within the BWF community have greatly benefited her comfort over her longevity. She is a very happy girl even though she lost her bonded 'husbun' a couple years ago with whom she was adopted.

A year after I adopted Poppy and Garnet, I went back to BWF for wheelchair-bound Georgie. As with my previously two adopted buns from BWF, getting and sharing advice, tips and concerns about Georgie were more than adequately acknowledged and addressed by staff and other volunteers at BWF, there is such a strong, ongoing support system there at all times to this day!

Everyone I've met so far is so nice and amazing! The amazing volunteers that step up to help save lives is inspiring and when you see the terrible conditions that some of these rabbits have experienced, you know they have a heart of gold! They take in the poor souls that have been dumped at shelters to die and give them a fighting chance to survive and find a loving home. I'm proud to be a bunny foster parent and wouldn't change a thing about it! I wish more people would join in helping save innocent lives because the feeling is like nothing you've experienced before. It's truly a rewarding experience when you see these beautiful bunnies find their loving new families!

I have adopted bunnies from BWF, and I'm consistently impressed by the organization. Bunny World rescues rabbits from high-kill shelters and works diligently to pair them with responsible owners. Their work doesn't stop there. They get medical care for fragile at-risk rescue bunnies. They ensure all rabbits are spayed and neutered before they go home with someone. Bunny World Foundation holds brushing workshops to teach adopters how to be responsible pet owners. They also assess potential bunny matches and pair rescue bunnies with compatible partners. Vets all over SoCal have told me, "We love BWF!"

Three years ago, I rescued 7 little 5 month old bunnies that had been left in a plastic milk crate at my friend's business doorstep.
I was clueless about how to care for them. That is, until I found Bunny World Foundation. Lejla Hadzimuratovic and the wonderful team of volunteers guided me through all the basics I needed then, and they continue to offer guidance and advice whenever it's needed now.

This group does more to rescue, rehabilitate, find fosters for, and privide ongoing support for bunnies and their adopters/owners, than any other animal rescue group out there.

If you really care about animals, want help, foster, or adopt a bunny, this is the place to contact.

By the way- I have adpted 4 more bunnies- from Bunny World Foundation of course!!

This is the most amazing group of people I've ever been around. There is literally no end to the sacrifices founder Lejla Hadzimuratovic and the volunteers who make up Bunny World Foundation are willing to make to give these poor, discarded animals a chance at a happy life. I've been a volunteer with BWF since 2014, when I adopted my first two bunnies. Over the years I've seen so many amazing stories, so many bunnies who seemed doomed to die alone from neglect in a shelter ... were cruelly dumped by owners who got tired of them, or were placed on a kill list with horrible medical ailments that would have caused anyone else to give up on them. Lejla and BWF NEVER give up on a bunny, though. Like the Marines who leave no man behind, they always go the extra mile to give these precious angels every possible chance to pull through. Thanks to that uncompromising policy, I've seen so many miracles take place over the last eight years. The people who power this nonprofit are an endless inspiration to me: They give so much of themselves, taking time from their busy lives, opening up their homes, hearts and wallets and doing whatever it takes -- without regard to how inconvenient it might be in the moment.
It's all about the bunnies!

I feel bunnies are completely underestimated,
unheard, tiny fragile
silent,
high maintenance PREY animals…
That’s being said, it’s never easy to find a correct and safe exotic pet vet, with a knowledge about fractures, teeth, respiratory or digestive.
THE STORY-
When my rescued bunny’s “top, bunny safe” vet did charge, but FAILED TO PERFORM MOLAR TRIM, I was in a dark place, hopeless…with a young, not even 1 year old bun, in a critical bad shape.
It was before Christmas! Holidays…
I was running from Petco, to Petsmart, trying to find one adopter rescue team, ( with bigger knowledge about molar trim specialist)
And yelp-searching it..
When I have found Lejla!
Emailed her, with all of the situation…
She wasn’t rest to sneak me into her vet’s very tight Xmas schedule, for life saving surgery…
The rest of it is History!!!

Archie
Hayley
Suki
Boogie
Leopold
Donut
mr Funky Funkeinstein
Paco
…… etc

Also BWF has a very strict bonding process what is very safety!!!
I love it!!
And good system with volunteers!!
People has to understand, without property it is not easy to do that heroic, never ending job!

It has to be a TEAMWORK!!

I’m glad we’ve met, and can help even a little in my spare time.
BWF is educating hobby owners, how to keep buns in happy, healthy conditions for LOONG.

BWF is beyond words they are an incredible nonprofit. I adopted my 2 bunnies from BWF not knowing a thing about bunnies. I then got involved and fostered 8 bunnies until I moved to Utah 3 years ago. My time being a foster and volunteering was one of the highlights of my life. BWF has brought me to tears many, many times. The dedication, the love and care is beyond. Pulling bunnies out of kill shelters that are abandoned, hurt, sick, homeless . The bunnies dumped in parks and on the streets. Bunnies born and taken from their mothers too soon and sold on the streets of DTLA. Heartbreaking! I could go on and on. I cannot be boots on the ground as I live out of state but I donate as much as I can. BWF has changed my life and taught me compassion for bunnies and that they are magical… creatures that have no voice and therefore we have to be the voice! BWF I love you❤️

Divine alignments led me to Bunny World Foundation and the founder, lejla, which all turned out to be a huge blessing. Originally I had offered to help with some little ones, but Lejla had the intuition to have me meet the dear soul you see in the photo. I ended up being connected to this beautiful boy whom I later named Cosmo. He'd come to have an injury during his time with his foster family and they were no longer able to care for him. I fell in love with him right away and was not deterred by his needs - the photo is from our "love at first sight" meeting at an adoption event and that was that. I remember when I met him and Lejla for the first time, how she was so attentive and concerned with even his condition while in the pen awaiting me to arrive. Lejla was very supportive during all of this, very responsive and helped connect me with holistic info I was able to add to my protocol of care to support my special needs boy. All of my interactions with her and BWF were positive and caring, as well as focused on educating people on proper care and making sure the bunnies not only found good homes, but were nurtured with the best possible. I'm so grateful I found them, as I would otherwise have missed out on this little angel who changed my life in the best of ways. BWF has a supportive online community via Facebook where bunny parents can share and learn together and Lejla is super active and devoted to every single story. I'll never forget them for bringing Cosmo to me.

I originally came to know Bunny world foundation when I found a pregnant bunny dumped in an alley. I reached out and became a foster. Bunny world helped me to get mama bun and each of her 9 babies, spayed/ neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and adopted into the most amazing homes. I continue to volunteer as a foster. Seeing this organization go out of their way to take in the abandoned, injured, abused bunnies and pull those at risk for euthanasia has moved me to tears. Animals have no voice and bunnies in particular are some of the most mistreated animals - used for testing, given away as Easter gifts then dumped like a toy when no longer desired. Bred, sold, abused, dumped in parks to fend for themselves. Bunny world goes above and beyond to speak on their behalf, to provide education to the community about proper care for rabbits , to push for protection through legislation , and to find safe, loving homes. In the few years I have volunteered I have personally seen them save hundreds of rabbits ! Please consider donating, volunteering and/or adopting to Bunny world foundation - make a difference in your life and the life of a bunny!

I adopted four bunnies from BWF (two pairs at different times). The team here has done everything in their power to make sure these bunnies are living a happy & healthy life in their new home. I was assigned a mentor, Kimmy, and she’s helped me with everything from the layout of their living area, to the type of toys/hiding spaces and everything in between. Lejla and Carolyn were very welcoming and informative at the adoption event. The process to adopt a bunny was intense - as it should be. Lejla really goes out of her way to make sure each rabbit is placed in a home that is equipped with the right tools and knowledge.

I started to have trouble with bonding the bunnies, but I had access to a group of other people who have adopted from BWF. I was able to reach out for advice from everyone and also receive support from Jane and Lejla directly.

When I leave town I always bring the rabbits to stay at the BWF Bunny Chateau (bunny sitter) because I wouldn’t trust anyone else to care for them while I’m away. I strongly recommend adopting from BWF and supporting their cause.

I was so desperate when I found this rescue organization. I had decided to save these handsome boys when I realized they were going to be put down by their owner and thought that it would be so easy to re-home them or place them with a sanctuary. It was NOT. They soon matured, started spraying and mounting each other (they are brothers) and I was afraid they might start to fight causing injury or death (from what I had read). I had tried everything. Reached out to all local rescues, no kill shelters, and sanctuaries in the area. All of them said the same thing. Rabbits, cats, and dogs were being dumped at shelters at an unprecedented rate…”Covid-animals” who had been adopted or purchased when people had more time and now had decided to get rid of them! Reaching out to the vets (who even care for rabbits…MOST DON’T!) I learned that to spay (or neuter (in this case neuter) rabbits was between $700-$1500 EACH! I couldn’t believe it. I was so afraid…panicking really. That somehow I had done these bunnies just as much a disservice by taking them on and not being able to afford it?! That’s when I got a call back from Lejla at Bunny World Foundation and she helped me get them neutered, signed me up as a Foster so I could get them viewed by potential adopters, and set me up with a brushing class so I could learn and ask questions of fellow volunteers. Lejla is always just a phone call away…she is so devoted and cares so deeply for the bunnies she helps to save…I was welcomed into a friendly volunteer based Facebook group that answers questions quickly and thoughtfully. Truly, I cannot say enough about this organization and how they came alongside of me to help me do my best for these littles.
I am so grateful that I am also helping by being a short time foster for another sweet bunny boy as well. Everyone I’ve met in this organization of volunteers is a gem. We’re so incredibly grateful for Bunny World Foundation.♥️

Two of my three bunnies are from Bunny World and they are wonderful additions to my family. I'm so grateful that I ran into the people at Bunny World. The hardest working bunny rescue in Los Angeles. The organization and its owner work around the clock to provide for the hundreds of abandoned and neglected bunnies. There are weekly adoption events, a complex volunteer network, public policy outreach...and more. The owner is very diligent about the welfare of the bunnies and takes extreme care and caution when adoptions do happen. New owners are vetted and contracts are put in place. They are very protective of all the bunnies in their care and go to great lengths to ensure that all the bunnies will be given adequate care and love. It's truly the best bunny rescue in Los Angeles. 10/10 would recommend.

Stay away from this rescue at all cost!!!!! Do not foster or adopt from them!!!! They will threaten litigation at your expense if you foster and can no longer provide help regardless. They don't even accept health issues, a loss of a job, or if you are moving out of state/country. NOTHING! If you adopt and can no longer provide then they take ownership again and will take over the rehoming. You could be responsible for paying them 5k for liquidated damages and can take you to court. They make little to know attempt to help you because it is all volunteers and they have over 300 rabbits. Not all are in foster care. They apparently have a holding place where there is no human interaction with the exception of 1 person going into feed them once a day. The owners rationale is, this better than being dead. They take on more than they can handle. I have reached out to others like me who are trapped and the owner charged the foster parent 60/day until adopted!!!! The contracts are insane. Do not get trapped by their money pit. Do not adopt or foster for this organization.
