Mission: BOSS’s mission is to help poor, homeless, and disabled people achieve health and self-sufficiency, and to fight against the root causes of poverty and homelessness. BOSS achieves its mission using four strategies: Housing, Health, Economic Development, and Social Justice. The organization serves homeless families with children, and single adults -- nearly 1,500 each year. All program participants have multiple barriers to self-sufficiency, including mental illness, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, illiteracy, domestic violence, and other challenges. BOSS operates a network of residential and drop-in programs across Alameda County that help people meet basic and long-term needs, so they can rebuild their lives. BOSS works with people to identify and understand root problems that led them to crisis, and to build new skills, access community resources, develop healthy social connections, and regain confidence and hope for their futures.
