Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Climate Change, Environment
Mission: Build It Green is a professional non-profit membership organization whose mission is to promote healthy, energy and resource-efficient building practices in California. We don’t build homes, but we do serve as a bridge: we facilitate the transfer of information about green building, we foster the growth of green building expertise within the private, public and nonprofit sectors, and we work to stimulate both the demand for and supply of green homes. Our multifaceted approach is unique in that it serves the needs of all public, private and nonprofit stakeholders in the residential building sector. Our model green building program, described below, was created to be an effective vehicle for bringing together these stakeholders to work toward mutually beneficial goals. We serve as a bridge, helping to forge connections between building professionals, building industry suppliers, government agency staff, elected officials, nonprofit staff, consumers, and others who have an interest in improving the quality of residential buildings in California.
Results: In 2012: 10,853 Single Family Units Certified 10,463 Multifamily Units Certified 103,659 total metric tons of C02 avoided 258,928,730 total gallons of water saved 58,158,931 total kWh saved

Programs: Build It Green promotes the adoption of green building practices through a number of programs, including: GreenPoint Rated - a credible, third party rating system for residential building projects; Trainings and certification programs for building professionals; Government Relations - assisting local governments with development, advocacy, and implementation of green building programs; Green Product Directory - a searchable database of green product suppliers; Ask an Expert Hotline - customized responses to green building questions for building professionals and the general public; Councils and Guild network - unique collaborative entities representing key stakeholders and supported by Build It Green; Green Home Tours - showcasing green building practices for the public
