Each family in the home building program is given a 400-500 square foot dignified home with 2 or 3 bedrooms, insulation, stucco and drywall. They have made handmade ethnic aprons, dolls, and pillows, unique aprons for women, children, and men, as well as trendy hawaiian tote bags, handmade doll clothing for 18 inch dolls, and barbie style doll gowns. 100% of the profit goes straight to them. There are no overhead costs or salaries. American volunteers work to get materials to the ladies and to sell their products.
Our family first volunteered with Build A Miracle (BAM) over 8 years ago. BAM is a charity that changes lives on BOTH sides of the border. To be able to help provide a family with basic shelter is a gift, but to help them build a community with foundational principles of education and service to others is a blessing.
Our sons have grown up with BAM and it has changed their lives for the better. Volunteering with BAM has given them perspective and to be aware that things can be very different just a half hour away.
Our favorite thing about BAM is that it is a 100% volunteer organization with no administrative overhead. It is truly one of our favorite charities.
