Bug A Bull is a superbly organized team that maintains focus on their mission despite all the "noise" in the rescue world. They are very effective in their community AND outside their community. They are masters at networking dogs in need. Bug A Bull is very effective at serving the dogs and their community with compassion, commitment and creativity. I especially love that they collaborate with other rescues to help dogs even outside their immediate community. Go Bug A Bull!
The contact person I communicated with did not provide job title so will be referred to as “contact”.
This rescue launched a spay/neuter program completely unorganized. First asked for information via text. Then via text said please send in email form. I did that. I was not told it was incomplete, both times it was ok yay! We have your information. Suddenly the board wanted that information provided on a form they created after announcing program and asking for info via text or email. Instead of texting for prompt response, I was emailed and never notified of the change in procedure of sharing the information from text to an official form.
I saw the form email 2 days later and had never received a text that the procedure changed from text to form. Then the contact remembered to text “you’ll be skipped because your form wasn’t complete”
I provided complete information but due to their disorganization of collecting information I have been skipped for services for my dog.
Extremely disappointed in the humans at this organization. Hope they provide the service to the dogs well at least and have hope they can get it together and be more professional

Hi Drea, Thanks for your feedback—we’re always looking to improve. However, we want to clarify a few details, as your review doesn’t reflect our experience. You were always in contact with Peri, our founder, and even addressed her by name in emails. We sent you our required form twice, but instead of completing it, you responded via email. When you finally submitted it, about half was left blank. We immediately followed up, and you insisted it was filled out. By the time you corrected the form, all spots were taken. Since we operate on a first-come, first-served basis, we couldn’t hold a space. We let you know you were welcome to reapply when spots opened, but instead, you left a one-star review, which affects our ability to help the community and rescue dogs. We respect your right to share your experience, but we also want to ensure accuracy. Let us know if you have any questions.
So many self described animal “rescues” fall short, yet BAB is the epitome of professionalism. They courageously take on dogs from often horrific backgrounds and turn their lives around. The all volunteer staff are extremely thorough in vetting potential adoptive homes and always protect the animals’ best interest in placements. They manage to do miraculous work and are very worthy of your donations! BAB is well respected by N NV veterinarians, and we are fortunate to have them in our community!!
From educating children how to safely be around dogs, to rescue, to helping other rescues, sending care packages to sick dogs, and helping people who are having trouble affording care and food for their animals: Bug A Bull does it all.

Educating kids and saving the lives of animals. Not to mention helping spay and neuter clinics and vet bills for families who are struggling. A great group.

As a registered veterinary technician of over 40 years, I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of different canine rescue groups. Bug A Bull Dog Education & Rescue Corporation is one of the top in my books. This organization has created a stellar track record of rescue work as well as providing education to the public. I also love how they collaborate with other rescue groups and shelters.
I needed to put my very sick dog down but I had just moved out of my apartment and I was trying to find a new place so I didn’t have money. My dog was old and unhappy, he didn’t really want to eat and he even had a hard time walking. He was so tired.
I emailed them and asked if they would help, I was heartbroken but I had to let him go. I thought they would take him to the vet help him pass. I didn’t want him to go without me but if I had to I had to. They said I should go and told me that they wouldn’t have it any other way. They said I needed to be with him and they didn’t just help him pass, they made sure I got his ashes and a paw print too. The vet and all of the people who worked at the vet signed a special card and bug a bull bought me flowers. I will never ever forget them
Where to begin??? I see them doing so many things. Sponsoring and helping shelter dogs, rescuing and finding homes for dogs, (they have a cute Mali right now if you’re looking). They help feed dogs and they even saved a duck a few days ago. Who does all that? I’m proud to help them keep up their work.
Several years ago when Bug A Bull was located in Ukiah I adopted my dog Lily from Bug A Bull, her name was Tilly so it seemed a good way to not confuse her. I love her so much and I’m so thankful for them, my life wouldn’t be the same with our my beautiful dog. She’s such a beloved part of our family.
Hi! I needed some help finding a place to get shots for my dog that I could afford. I saw that a rescue called bug a bull helped with this so I called and spoke to Peri, from the information I saw she is the person who built this rescue and I’m so glad she did.
Peri helped me get my dog shots, flea medicine and heartworm test and heart worm medicine. She made sure to get my dog microchipped too. She asked me if I needed help other than this for my dog, I didn’t but she still gave me a leash set a couple toys and a bag of the food my dog likes.
I was so happy and promised I would pay back the kindness when I could so I just donated to her so she could help someone else. I am grateful and blessed.
Bug a Bull is an amazing organization! They do whatever it takes to ensure that their dogs are cared for and go to the best home possible, and they keep in touch to be a resource when a pet parent has questions. I’m so happy I decided to rescue Maverick (aka Smalls) and become part of this wonderful and supportive community

Thank you! We love watching him flourish with you.
Have you seen the great things they do? I never knew rescue was about so many different things. Love it!
I saw a dog on the Bug A Bull Facebook page that was part of a shelter program they have, I emailed bug a bull and they told me the dog was in a shelter and they paid adoption fees for the shelter. They gave me the information to get hold of the shelter and I now have the love of my life! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

Thank you!
When I found out my dog Shannie had cancer, Bug A Bull sent us a very special care package to cheer us up, it really did! Peri explained that her dog Piggy had died of cancer and a care package cheered them up. She is a special lady! I’m happy to say Shannie is still with us and cuddles with her bug a bull blanket every day.
Amazing. Kind. Thoughtful. Compassionate. This nonprofit organization does incredible outreach, cares for all animals, and works to educate people/children about their organization and proper care for animals.
Where to begin, these folks do it all! They rescue dogs, give owners support when their dogs are ill (have you seen their care packages they send to people/dogs???), they have a shelter dog sponsorship program that I've been watching lately, I didn't understand this but now I see what it can do to help save shelter doggies. Yesterday they helped get a beautiful old dog out of the shelter that seems to have some health problems. The dog is going to live with a family that will keep her comfortable and happy for the rest of her days on earth! This absolutely made my day.
These ladies must have loads of good karma!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for your kind words
Great organization! They spend so much time with the dogs and potential families finding just the right fit.
Bug A Bull is the best!! Ethical rescues who truly understand dogs are few and far in between. Many tend to anthropomorphize dogs and shame owners who need help with surrendering their pets. Bug A Bull does everything they can to help, and they do so kindly.
I love that they take back their dogs no matter what happens! I just saw a post that says one of their adopters passed away and now they are once again looking for a new home for this sweet bull terrier. High praise for a great rescue.
I follow them because I enjoy all the great stories of the many things they do and offer the community. I have never seen a group that works so closely with other rescues, helps shelter dogs find homes, shares fun stories and keeps us all up to date on their dogs they adopt to new families. Check out their page! It always cheers me up.
Such a great organization, any time I need help with training or other questions Bug A Bull has been the best resource. We recently saw some new behavior in our dog and reached out to them. Right way they explained what was going on and the changes we could make and it worked! We are just so pleased we found them.
Big A Bull is the best rescue ever. The education they provide throughout the process and in our community is absolutely 5 star. The process and follow up is impeccable! First rate organization!
My dog fell ill this summer very suddenly. We had money put away into an emergency vet fund, but this was the first time I'd ever experienced a life threatening emergency with a pet, and it was very overwhelming. Peri and Bug A Bull graciously stepped in and helped us to cover a portion of our pup's vet bills, easing the financial burden. I am a disabled full time college student, and at the time my partner was an involuntary part time worker. Without Bug A Bull's help, we'd have had a much more difficult time treating Enyo's illness. While she is still sick, we are now in a much better position to handle her treatment. Founder Peri still regularly checks in on Enyo and I, and has been a pillar of support through the process. Bug a Bull is the best!!
I’ve followed them since they began in 2012, I admire all the work that is put into every dog they pull from the shelter into their rescue.
The community service work is top notch, feeding dogs belonging to food insecure situations to covering vet bills and proving dog safe education to elementary school students.
Have not yet adopted through this organization as the timing isn’t right but am very impressed at their dedication and pro active attitude. The needs of the dog definitely come first here
Goes above and beyond to rescue and care for homeless dogs then find them forever loving homes....They are truly "Rockstars"......
I have seen this group in action since the get go. Not only rescuing and adopting dogs but boots on the ground teaching people how to be safe with dogs, how to care for their pets, and helping people secure funds for medical assistance for sick or injured animals. Helping other rescuers in need of assistance as well. A great group of people and wonderful voices for animals.
A lot of hard work and dedication goes into running a successful rescue and Bug A Bull has put all of that in and more.
A top notch organization that does a tremendous amount of work on so many levels. From education to rehab work with dogs in distress to providing food and supplies during disasters, Bug A Bull always rises to the challenge.

Thank you!
I absolutely love this nonprofit. They go over and above to help the breed and their volunteers are fantastic. I am so thankful for groups like this.
The people in the rescue are so great. They are very approachable for any question, willing to help in any way possible to help the dog in need. They travel ab out to areas to get dogs and then will rehab them for new lives. I very often refer to them for either intakes or for adoption. I have faith in the group so know the dogs are safe to be homed
I have worked at Washoe County Regional Animal Services in Washoe County for many years. We can consistently count on Bug-A-Bull rescue to evaluate, pull and rehabilitate many of the dogs that come through our facility and are passed over by other rescue groups. Our staff advises about behavior that they observe daily. Bug A Bull then puts each dog through their program. They have had great success and our staff is grateful to them for saving so many pets!
I’d lost my boy Chief unexpectedly, and my heart was broken. I asked Bug a Bull to help me find a German Shepherd. My dogs were missing Chief too. He was the center of all our world. It took about 6 months and I received a call from Peri. She’d found the perfect dog for me. COVID’s “Doc” Holiday came home with me after his waiting period was up. She found the perfect dog to fit into my family. Bug a Bull is what every rescue should be like. They are the best!
Very knowledgeable team with high expectations! I wish every breeder would have such deep understanding of animals.
Caring organization with amazing directors. They are truly about animals getting to have a better life.
A fantastic grassroots organization. Their advocacy for dogs that would not have a chance with most other organizations is extremely important. They work well with other local rescue groups and share information and resources. Animals benefit with this kind of leadership and example.
Great rescue that helps other rescues. That’s what it’s about. Great educational programs that teach the young. That’s were we need to start. Thank you for all you do.
Proud to be able to call myself apart of the Bug A Bull adoptive family. Not only are the owners amazing people in general, they are so dedicated to the lives of dogs and rescuing, rehabilitating and training along with education! They have done so much positive work within the local community to put the good name we know to the bull breeds and educate many children.
Bug a Bull focuses on rescuing pit breeds and finding them excellent forever homes. The organization also does a lot educational work with children and works tirelessly toward improving public perception of bully breeds.
We have worked with Bug A Bull for a few years and have found them to be exceptional rescuers and care takers! They work so hard and can't do enough for the animals! EXTREMELY reliable and trustworthy. Love them!

Thank you for your kind words.
Bug A Bull has helped the community assist keeping dogs in their homes by providing veterinary assistance, Spay neuter programs and children’s education.
As well as rescuing dogs of course.
I've been watching the progress of this rescue and its impressive. They keep a close eye on their fosters, those with medical issues, and those in need. I appreciate their honesty.
Bug A Bull has our support!
Bug A Bull is the reason why I'm happy again! We lost our beloved Jake to illness in February. It broke our hearts and I became terribly depressed. Then, I saw Sugi on the Bug A Bull site. We adopted her after a wonderful meet and greet with Rachel in Reno. A week later she came home to us. Sugi is a sweet, laid back, well trained, loving girl. She has a sad history but overcame it and has become a cherished member of our family. We love her dearly. She makes us laugh with her playful nature. She is our joy!
Last summer around this time we saw Bug A Bull post about a puppy that was for adoption. This amazing program saw a post on Craigslist that a puppy was on “sale” in which Bug a Bull immediately followed up on because it was very suspect. He was thankfully purchased off a homeless woman for $25 and God knows what she needed the quick $25 for or where she got the puppy. Regardless he was saved. Bug A Bull kept the pups for a few weeks and decided it was time he go home and I was the lucky girl! Within 24 hours of having him he developed symptoms of parvo which required immediate care. Bug a Bull apologized over and over and I told them it was not their fault, it was timing. This organization quickly formed a campaign to raise money on FB and my pup was getting the care he desperately needed immediately because of their quick action. He survived, the vets were amazed at how strong he was I personally think it’s because I’m a cancer survivor myself and we were meant to be. Because of this I have formed a great relationship this organization to this day! They have not forgotten him and are always excited for updates. Because of Bug a Bull I have also donated to other cases posted on their page to pay it forward. My beautiful dog is a year old and named Nugget. He is the best thing that has happened to me in a very long time. I’m ever so grateful to Bug a Bull for saving his life TWICE and we are lucky to have such a giving and proactive animal rescue group in our area....
Hero, the celebrity white German Shepherd that everyone seems to follow or know about from Bug A Bull's social media pages, has been my introductory experience to their services and I couldn't be more thankful their comprehensive approach to ensuring the best possible dog/adopter match. Like a lot of dog owners, my vision of my next adoption was largely molded by my previous dogs that seemed to be irreplaceable. I was convinced that we'd never have another dog as compatible with our lifestyle as our last one, but when I connected with Rachael, I told her about my last dog and the main qualities we were looking for in a potential new adoption.
After chatting for a while, she immediately suggested that Hero might be an excellent fit so I scheduled a time to come out and meet him the following week. The initial meeting was wonderful and I was extremely impressed with him. In fact, I was so impressed with him that in the following days, I began to second guess my ability to be the best possible fit for him because I knew he deserved the very best, especially after all of the things he went through to get to this point. I was up front and honest about my reservations and throughout the ongoing conversation, Rachael was able to address each of my concerns by explaining how what I perceived as weaknesses on my part were actually perfect for what Hero needed. She understood my experiences as a veteran would be invaluable in understanding his thought processes and she knew him so well that she was able to answer every question I had.
To sum up my experience with Bug A Bull, they are compassionate, understanding, and uncompromising in their dedication to the dogs that are lucky enough to be rescued by their organization. They will not match dogs with adopters unless they are confident in their compatibility and they'll do everything they possibly can to ensure the highest-levels of success for adoptions. Most, if not all of their adoptable dogs have completed at least some level of basic obedience training, but others have had much more. This means that dogs adopted through Bug A Bull have had countless hours of assessment, training, and care before they are adopted and you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who has had less than an exceptional experience with them. After seeing how truly perfect Hero has been for our household and lifestyle, I'll never trust my dog adoption experience to anyone other than Bug A Bull in the future. If you're like me and are cautious about adopting because of all of the "unknowns", you can take almost all of the guesswork out of the process by connecting with them so they can get to know you and begin to help you find your next four-legged best friend!
I started my experience with Bug A Bull by doing a transport for them approximately 3 years ago. The dog ended up never leaving our home (she is the black one in the photos. These was taken at her first visit to the vet and at doggie day care). She is a perfect example of the knowledge they have for saving the perfect dog. The last transport I did for them, the dog was exactly the same - sweet, lovable, and well mannered (and she was only a puppy). They do an excellent job! Not just saving dogs but educating people with dog knowledge.
The first time I was approached by Bug A Bull they were offering to teach home health workers in Mendocino County how to work with dogs they encounter. Also offering the same for school aged children with coloring books and age appropriate handouts.
Then they were pulling pitty type dogs from the county animal shelter and spending hours walking, training and enriching the lives of dogs at the shelter. The shelter staff only needed to call and Bug A Bull was there to help.
All of the above is part of a very complicated puzzle that animal shelters face daily. Bug A Bull knows that the problem is multifaceted but the heart of it is preventing unwanted puppies from ending up in the shelters in the first place. When they offered to sponsor spay/neuter for pitty types in Mendocino County I was over joyed! Dozens of pit bulls have been altered through Mendocino County Care A Van sponsored by Bug A Bull. Since then they have continued to fund raise for spay/neuter. The last spay day for Pit Bull type dogs covered surgery, microchips and vaccines for 21 dogs! When I told them that there were six dogs who did not get on the surgery list that day and ten puppies from two who we did spay, they immediately started fund raising!
Bug A Bull Rescue is making a huge difference in Mendocino County through education, volunteering and fund raising for spay/neuter and medical costs for those who need help. Without Bug A Bull many dogs in our county would have ended up in the shelter, not received medical care and spay/neuter and not been given a chance to shine in a shelter setting. Please if you love Bully Breeds consider donating to this rescue.
Bug a bull has taught me so much in such a short amount of time. My family has adopted from them and was lucky enough to get an amazing animal. They are the best rescue I have persob interacted with.
So proud to be apart of the Bug A Bull adoptive family. They have done so much positive work in local communities to benifit bull breeds, local shelters and rescues.
I've been following them for years, I love their work, sadly we were also been put in a situation that we had to re-home one of our dogs, I didn't trust anyone other than them to help which I am very thankful for, they truly do make sure all the dogs find the perfect home although sometimes it does takes a while but they also work on training ect. while they are waiting for their match which is great.
Keep up the great work everyone, you have saved many dogs and educated a lot of people (:
We rescued Gia and she is such a great addition to our family. We have a 7 year old Vizsla mix we rescued as a pup and he has taken Gia under his wing and she has settled in nicely. Thank You for this wonderful little girl!!
We adopted our beautiful Lilly from Bug a Bull. She is the center of our world!! She helps with all our sales we think she is priceless (even though she has a $1 price tag on her head) They save so many fur babies! Awesome organization!
We adopted our boy max from bug a bull and they were fantastic! Very knowledgeable and friendly. They did a lot for our boy and we are very greatful!
This wonderful organization helped us find the perfect rescue dog for our family after our much loved "Ian" passed away in 2016. The meet and greet was the perfect way to introduce Annabelle to us and Karen was extremely patient as we made our decision to adopt. I know that many, many others have benefited from the kindness and talents of those who work at Bug A Bull. Their love for animals and seemingly inexhaustible efforts towards helping as many dogs as they can is so inspiring! They are a fantastic nonprofit organization and I will adopt from them again when the time is right!
Thanks to the Reno chapter we were able to adopt our girl Luna! Never in a million years did I ever think I would be a German Shepard/Husky mom (I've always been a bully breed and Labrador mom) but Luna is exactly a perfect fit for our family! Rachel did an amazing job caring for her and making sure she was a good match for us! I absolutly love this rescue and will always keep my eyes out for more fur babies to add to our family...just font tell my husband. Lol. Thank you for all you guys do! You truly are heros!!!
For years, I have been following the activities of Bug a Bull Dog Education and Rescue Corporation. Their commitment to caring for the dogs had been remarkable. All funds given to them are used only to help the dogs and the people caring for them. And when the donated funds run short, these people consistently give their own private resources. They take animals into their own home, they hunt for new homes for the dogs, and try to educate the public whenever they can. These people are my family, and my remarks could be viewed as biased. But the facts cannot be questioned. I am very proud of what Bug a Bull has accomplished. You couldn’t find a better way to help the dogs and the people in their lives.
Bug a bull has done a great job with their education program getting info out and helping clear up misinformation and misconceptions .
I’ve seen them take on and save some great animals as well as some difficult but deserving cases as well.
They deserve our support!!
Bug a Bull has a fantastic group of caring individuals that help all breeds of dogs, especially the Bully breed. Educating people on K-9 behavior, speaking with both adults and children.
Go above and beyond to find homes for the dogs they rescue off the euthanasia lists as well as provide great information to people in the community. Great people as well! Can not wait to continue to watch this organization grow and see the future of it.
Bug A Bull was absolutely amazing in helping us find just the right match for our family. At first the dog we fell in love with they said wasn't a good fit for us. That was hard to hear, but we watched this dog by following the page and we quickly understood they were looking out for the dog and us! We were sold. Who does that and so eloquently?
Peri and Rachel were quick to commit to finding just the right dog for our lifestyle and we have never looked back (well ok, we still follow the page and check in because they are family to us)
If you need help figuring out which breed or type of dog is right for you, contact them. They won't sugar coat things or let you adopt a dog just because you think it's cute. They want things to work for everyone and that is something we didn't find with other rescues. Most were willing to adopt any dog we asked about. Thinking back, several of those dogs although loveable and wonderful fur angels would not have been right.
Thank you thank you thank you Bug A Bull and keep doing things the way you do.
