Causes: Child Day Care, Children & Youth
Mission: Buena vista child care(bvcc) offers year round quality care to children kindergarten through 5th grade in the mission district of san francisco. Bvcc provides before-school and after-school programs during the school year and full-day programming during summer,winter and spring breaks. Our mission is to provide a safe environment for children to learn and grow. Our program includes both fee-based and susidized families and all children are accepted regardless of their ability to pay. Bvcc is a state licensed child care facility and in 1990 was the first school-age organization in san francisco county to receive accreditation.
Programs: After-school program:the school community dismisses at 3:45pm. Bvcc operates from 3:45-6:45pm, allowing parents to complete their work day or attend school/training programs. The after-school program includes a daily snack, academic, enrichment and recreational activities. We offer homework helpand tutoring in math and literacy, organized sports, art classes, chess club, swim lessons and always time for free play. In addition to several fee based families, we receive excel funding to help cover costs for 105 children to attend at no charge. The children are identified/selected by the school as low income english language learners who need additional academic support to complement their school day.
before-school program: the school day begins at 9:30 am. Bvcc operates from 7-9:30 am, providing parents the much needed time they need to begin their work day. Our before school program includes two days a week of organized sports, two days a week purposeful art classes and two days a week of guided reading. Children receive homework help if needed and they have free time to play with their friends indoors and outdoors. We receive a grant for our before-school program to help cover the costs of many families who are unable to pay. The expenses and revenues for the before-school program are included on line 4a.
summer/winter/spring camps:bvcc offers full day programming when schools are closed in the summer, winter and spring. We operate monday-friday from 7:30am-5:30pm. We serve 45 to 90 children from the mission district and the surrounding communities. The day includes a morning breakfast , nutritional lunch and afternoon snack. The weeks include field trips, swim lessons, musical theater performances, cooking, sports, arts, and music. In 2013 we received a grant to help cover costs for many families who would not otherwise have been able to attend.
