My daughter and I have attended the last 4 or 5 Buddy Cruises, and it has become, and hopefully will continue to be, the most important annual vacation that we can take. Yes it's a great ship, and we go to cool places, and the food is great, and so on. But what makes this so special is the PEOPLE. My daughter's confidence and self-esteem soar when we board the ship. She suffers from, in addition to her disabilities, acute social anxiety, and while that does not go away completely, on a Buddy Cruise she feels free to be her sparkly self around others. the BC folks pour their hearts (and backs) out to create this magical environment. There are events all day every day that we are free to join or not to join in. The group tables in the Dining Hall offer us quality time to sit and share a fine meal, every nite, with a mix of old and new friends. I cannot say enough how impactful this event is for us every year as it makes us remember that we are not alone as we cruise through our lives; we are part of a huge, vibrant, and loving community!

My daughter Kari whom has Down syndrome, and I went on our first Buddy Cruise on Royal Caribbean and had a wonderful time. They had everything so easy to book that all you had to do was go online to book and if you had any questions there was a phone number to call with NO sitting on hold...actually got a real person that was so knowledgable and friendly that took care of every thing we had questions about and more. They keep you updated right up to the day you board the ship. They have a Facebook page for all people in the Buddy Cruise group for questions or just upcoming news, excursions that are friendly for the people with Down Syndrome and other like differences to ambulate, discounted cheaper than ship excursions, and a chance to meet families that are joining the Buddy Cruise Group. They make you feel like a welcome part of their family. There are so many planned events through Buddy Cruise that are free and nice gifts to win. No one should miss this opportunity. We had an amazing time and can't wait to go again! This group is so organized, personable, caring, lovable, entertaining and giving!!

I heard of the Buddy cruise 5 years ago. I attended as a volunteer and have been going ever since. It is an amazing experience filled with information, fun and friendship for the entire family. The kids cry at the last night dance and their parents share their love of this conference. The organizers are top notch and truly care about the special needs community!!

This was our first Buddy Cruise. It was absolutely amazing and a game changer for our 31 year old daughter with Down Syndrome. Very well organized, educational, and focused on all of the “Buddy Cruisers” engaging and making new friends. Our daughter came home a happier person and talks with her new friends daily. We will forever be going on this cruise. The organizers are truly amazing! ❤️

I am a British lady who was on vacation with my family over the last Buddy Cruise in September, on Adventure of the Seas. We were bowled over by the amazing organisation that you are and all that you do for the families across the USA. An inspirational bunch of people and demonstration of commitment to many people. They all had a blast and it felt a very inclusive experience. Meeting you all really made our holiday extra special. With a new pair of knees, I would love to offer my support on future trips and promote your good work in the United Kingdom.

Best wishes

We have now participated in 3 Buddy Cruises. As we got ready for our first cruise in 2022, I was certain that we would do it once and be done with it. That hasn't happened. During each cruise, we've signed up for the next cruise before leaving the ship. Buddy Cruise is a wonderfully unique experience part vacation, part conference, part party and so much more! It's wonderful to be surrounded by so many like-minded people, who have walked in your shoes, so there is no judgment of what you should/shouldn't be doing as a parent/caregiver. You are surrounded by friends who soon become family. You connect, network, and share laughs, challenges, triumphs, and tears. It was really like nothing I had ever experienced before. The mission of Buddy Cruise doesn't just start and end with the cruise. The BC leaders/committee are committed to spreading the mission of advocacy, inclusion, and helping others all year long in various ways. I'm sure like many others we are "Buddy Cruisers for life!"

This was our first Buddy Cruise. As the parent of two adult children with Down syndrome and an advocate who has always pushed for inclusion in the school and community I was a bit “wary” of doing something “special” and/or geared to just the disability community. I had nothing to worry about. The Buddy Cruise is totally inclusive!! That’s what makes it especially awesome…the positive impact and awareness our group brings to all of the other people on the cruise. It was an absolutely wonderful experience for us! We learned a lot, made new friends, experienced new places and things, and we had a blast!! The amount of awareness and education the Buddy Cruise organization puts in around the globe all year long is phenomenal. It’s not just a one week cruise once a year. It’s a year round commitment to building inclusive experiences, building inclusive communities and supporting others . We can’t thank the Buddy Cruise and all of the volunteers enough for all that they do. Our only regret is that we didn’t jump on board years ago.

Buddy Cruise Inc. is beyond an amazing nonprofit organization for people with IDD. As a parent we plan our child's birth. The day comes and you find our your baby is a "Heavens Special Child". As time passes by you soon learn the places your child will take you that may be a different path then you planned. Soon you learn a lot of new vocabulary and a new meaning to life. For my son he first took us on a medical journey and still is as of today.... He took us to many round tables referred to IEP meetings. Then we entered the world of sports through Special Olympics. It's still an amazing journey at his age of 47 years old. Then in 2009 together we experienced our first cruise together on the Carnival cruise line. We thought that was amazing. Then we began cruising with the Disney Cruise Line. We were hooked with the Magical Disney Ships. Then in 2023 we learned about the Buddy Cruise Inc. on the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. Although Disney cruising is so magical BUDDY CRUISE Inc. Is beyond amazing for people with IDD and their families and friends. Buddy Cruise Inc. plans dances, activities, early dining, excursions and more just for YOU. You will have a special lanyard that only you can attend those events to be safe and have time with all your friends at SEA. We are cruising with Buddy again in 2025, Don't be left behind.......... joinbuddycruise2025.org

We love Buddy Cruise, this was our second sailing with them and I did it again just to make sure I wasn’t dreaming the first time. Not only were the conference speakers outstanding and personable, the parties fabulous, the love tangible, but my son and I have never bonded so closely together. Without the worlds distractions we are present with each other, quality time like none other we’ve shared. He has Autism and IDD, but on this cruise with this group he completely comes out of his world. He is social like I have not seen, he is the life of some parties, which I didn’t know he was capable of. He is kinder and more accepting of everyone. Magic seems to happen and his spirit soars. I will be a Buddy Cruiser as long as the Good Lord provides us the means to do it. My most favorite vacation annually is the plan. This is more than a cruise, it’s a blessing. Love the Buddy Family that does it for all families like mine to experience the joy. My son and I have done the Disney Cruise and Carnival, being part of something so wonderful and seeing our kids thrive and their parents relaxed and alive. I will choose Buddy always and special thanks to Royal Caribbean for making us feel Royal!

This was our very first Buddy Cruise and certainly won’t be our last! The organization was amazing, lots of workshops/ coffee hours with phenomenal speakers for the patents / caregivers. The dances and actives that they had scheduled for our “kids” ( mine is 31) was fantastic, met many people and made a lot of friends that we hope to see every year! I cannot say enough about all the people that were involved in the planning of this fantastic trip! Looking forward to many more years of involvement.

Buddy Cruise has made a huge impact on the life of my son and me.
The first Cruise we went on we were hooked. My son made so many life long friends . I also made friends and learned so much from the wide variety of topics discussed pertaining to Special Needs.
Tragically my son passed away shortly after a Buddy Cruise we took in 2017.
The Buddy Cruise founders and administrators ,cruisers were all very supportive and helpful during this very difficult time .
I wasn't sure I could go on the cruises , but I know my son would want me to continue the tradition.
He looked forward to every Cruise, it was the highlight of his year.

In September, my family went on an amazing vacation. A very needed vacation away from our house remodel, therapy and doctors appointments. When we booked this particular vacation, I knew it would be fun; however, I didn’t know the profound impact we had in store. We took our first Buddy Cruise.

Buddy Cruise partners with Royal Caribbean to provide a vacation experience like no other. Whether you have a loved one with a special need or you don’t, this cruise is so full of heart. Buddy Cruise has been sailing to different locations for 15 years. Many cruisers are regulars and have made this cruise a family reunion. The ones (like us) who just took the first one have already booked for 2023.

Let me share our week with you and I bet you’ll be ready to join us:

CJ, Henley, Hudson and I drove to Florida where we met my in-laws (Larry and Patty Hartman). The port was in Miami and the storms dissipated in time for our journey. Royal Caribbean made our boarding easy and we walked onto the Explorer of the Seas. Our first introduction was at the opening ceremony with all the Buddy Cruisers. There, we learned about all the fun and learning opportunities that were in store for all. We got our Walk & Roll t-shirts for the walk on the ship, we got special Buddy Cruise lanyards with our photos, and we were handed a bag full of goodies. And new this year was Buddy Bucks, too, and I will share more on these fun bucks later. Over 400 people were onboard for the Buddy Cruise. All journeys are welcome. The family who started this (Pam and Jorge Arnoldson) has a child with Down syndrome, but welcome everyone who needs this time of togetherness.

Buddy Cruise says we are “in the same boat” and, yes, this is true; what I now know is that we are “unsinkable” when we are all together.

A vacation is about creating memories that last a lifetime and stories you can share that outlive even us. This cruise had it all; fun, learning, friendships, laughter, tears, strength, similarities, differences, heart and more. I even called it the “love boat” a few times as I saw sweet handholding and kisses being shared. Think about your favorite Christmas in your life; that is this week, it’s better than Christmas to our families. A week of togetherness with people who understand your life. They don’t have to mirror completely to understand. So much love to be shared by all of those who sail.

This entire experience is worth every dime. And the people who make it happen make you instantly feel like family.

Since we disembarked, several have called, texted and add us on Facebook to keep in touch. It’s a beautiful nonprofit that makes the world better and bring vacationing for our families a reality.

The money they raise all goes back to making this a vacation of a lifetime and to helping others on this beautiful journey… it’s a win/win when you support Buddy Cruise.

We joined the Buddy cruise org. In 2021, for the 2022 cruise. The work the members do behind the scenes was astonishing, organizing workshops for parents/caregivers:guardians to specialize activities for our young adults with disabilities. Through their work we all had an enjoyable time together. Most important was including other cruisers in being apart of our group during the Buddy walk and their participation. We met many families before our cruise on the Facebook page and gathering at the pre cruise hotel. We will continue to be a part of Buddy Cruise org.

Never thought of traveling on a cruise ship. Scared for the well being of my daughter and her medical history. After I saw the “Facebook page to Best Buddies” I began to believe this cruise would be a great adventure for my daughter and me. This is our “first” Buddy Cruise. Able to connect with other families, ask questions about the cruise ship, also about the excursions. What makes it even better: When I ask a question on our Facebook page, I will get a response from previous Buddy Cruisers who have experience about traveling on a ship. We also, have a 1-800 number to call Royal Caribbean Group Customer Service. We look forward to our trip.

We have enjoyed Buddy Cruise since our first in 2013 and go every since. It is our main vacation planned each year. We enjoy seeing friends from past cruises as well as meeting new cruisers and conference speakers.

It is well worth looking into Buddy Cruise for your next family vacation since there is something for everyone in the family to enjoy themselves as well as relax. Check out the BC videos on You Tube and don not forget to watch the "Buddy Cruise News" which is video presentation of the Buddy Cruise kids interviewing fellow BC members.

Even in the challenging time with Covid 19, the Buddy Cruise Directors put together different events for the Buddy Cruise family to help keep the BC kids engaged in fun activities with their BC friends, as well as something for the parents. The Zoom Dance Party on Fridays night via Zoom is our daughters favorite event to dance with her BC friends.

We are proud to be ambassadors for Buddy Cruise living in New Hampshire.

You can read about Buddy Cruise in the "Diversability Magazine" Oct 27, 2019 release.

So check out Buddy Cruise, you will not be disappointed.

My family and I have been on two Buddy Cruises thus far and find it to be a wonderful experience for the whole family. It is a great way to take a vacation since you are with other families who have a child with a intellectual or physical disability. There is something for everyone in the family to do and enjoy on board and at the excursions.
Since it is also a conference at sea you learn from the many topics listed and have great presenters from across the country that have their heart and soul into their presentation's for the family to learn something new. We have meet many great families and have great friendships that have developed as well. We also like how the other cruisers not part of the BC group make our families feel included on board and at the excursions. It was impressive to see over 600 passengers (~300 Buddy Cruisers & ~ 300 other passenger's) on the walking deck during to Buddy Walk (BC15) to spread the mission of diversity and inclusiveness. We tip our hat to what the Arnoldson Family has created in Buddy Cruise. We look forward to each Buddy Cruise we go on to see our friends from past cruises and the new friendships developed on future Buddy Cruises. We have been traveling with the Buddy Cruise since 2011 and it is still an amazing, fun experience each time! We love the activities, the people, the conference on board the ship and everything about the event. It is expertly run and well managed. We love that we feel that the fellow Buddy Cruisers are now family.

The Buddy Cruise does an amazing job of showing the world that people with differing abilities are more alike than different. We get on board the ship with people asking why they picked this week and get off with them planning to join us next year! Where else can you literally change the world one cruise at a time!

We love Buddy Cruise! More like a family than a vacation, this will be our sixth Buddy Cruise in 2020. So much to do, so many people to meet. And just that -the people are the BEST! You can relax, you can “conference”, you can take excursions, dance, talk, party. There’s nothing like it. Three thumbs up from the Prewitt family!

As the parent of individuals with special needs, vacations aren't always something you think you will experience. You are concerned people won't understand your kids or your family. Then, BUDDY CRUISE! It's a vacation, a wonderful family experience, a conference and so much more. For us, it's a dream come true. The most unexpected result of this experience was the new family we gained. Whether it's your first time or you have gone every year, you are part of this amazing family.

I might be biased because my BFF Pamela is a director of Buddy Cruise and her awesome kids came up with the idea to cruise and educate. But, my family and I are more than inspired by this amazing group. I’ve met people who are not “associated” with Buddy Cruise but plan their cruises at the same time as Buddy Cruise because they are so inspired by this group of wonderful people.. All the programs, activities, seminars are top notch. Pam and Jorge go above and beyond to make each Buddy Cruise an unforgettable experience, and they are successful. My 36 year old son has Down syndrome. Prior to his first Buddy Cruise in 2008, he was very hesitant to travel with us (my wife and I are retired). He enjoyed the cruise so much that he has since travelled with us to 36 countries. The travel on the Buddy Cruise is not the main attraction, it is the opportunity to meet with others who are in the same "boat", so to speak. The 2017 cruise will be our 4th. We are both on the Steering Committee of our local Special Olympics and the timing sometimes conflicts with the Buddy Cruise. He looks forward to this event every year.

When we found out about Buddy Cruise, the thought of taking my brother-in-law who is now 58 and has Down Syndrome on a cruise with is peers intrigued us. We found out how fantastic the people who plan this event every year are. They make sure there are activities to include all folks no matter what their disability, chances to do something you can not do at home, and make new friends who you can keep in touch with through the year.
My husband and I have taken my brother-in-law on the Buddy Cruise 3 times now and it has been an forgettable experience each time.
Buddy Cruise has the most caring and helpful people working to make the experiences unforgettable to the people who attend whether they are young or old, family or friends.

Our family first found out about the Buddy Cruise several years ago while we were living in Alaska, and have since attended 3 sailings. It has been a fantastic experience for us being the person in our family who has a disability is my 57 year old brother in law with Down Syndrome.
The experience of going on a ship for him has been wonderful great. There are so many people and being with his peers makes him very happy. Even though he is older, there are always activities he can participate in.
Jorge and Pam Arnoldson who founded Buddy Cruise, their family and the crew who help them (they work year round) every year, think of everything for the inclusion of the participants no matter what age. Parents are always included each trip with seminars to help them cope with happenings in their lives.
I can't say enough about the Arnoldsons and the cruise. Anyone who has a child, sibling or any member of their family with a disability should attend a Buddy Cruise to have a fantastic memorable experience.

We cruise ALOT. But traveling with three special needs children is challenging and at times, in the past, isolating. UNTIL we met Buddy Cruise! From my first contact with Pam Arnoldson (director of BC), I felt like family! Not many understand an autistic child with sensory issue that cries and hides because the "lights were too bright" or a child with difficult to understand speech, or children with very complex medical issues, but Buddy Cruise understands and welcomed us. We travel with a suitcase of meds, IV poles and pumps- not a problem for BC.
In the past we may have "travelled " but never felt "included". With Buddy Cruise we were not only included- we had an instant sense of "belonging".
I loved advocating for our children on the Buddy Walk at Sea and showing folks that our kids are more alike than different.
We made great friends, formed strong bonds and enjoyed chatting with people who truely do understand.
The workshops were fabulous- so much to learn.. There was great food and fun and the time went by WAY to quickly. We are registered for BC 2916 and will book soon for 2017.
THIS is acceptance, equality, love and family fun.

Buddy Cruise Inc.-Lithia, FL in three words… AN AMAZING ORGANIZATION! 2015 was the first year my sister and I stumbled across their website, BuddyCruise.org by way of search engines affiliated with Down syndrome. As a sister, caregiver, and a nervous nelly about travel all together I spent just a couple of hours discussing and pointing our family, friends, and my sister’s physicians to Buddycruise.org regarding this opportunity, their response was very positive and encouraging. From the time I contacted the assigned travel agency until the time we returned home, the entire Buddy Cruise organization was very prepared, responsive to all my questions, and made us feel part of a much bigger family. We were welcomed with so many hugs, included in a variety of activities, educated about additional resources, and made many forever friends. The Buddy Cruise organization has given us an opportunity to share our story and experiences on a day-to-day basis with people we work with and meet along life’s journey. Thank you Buddy Cruise Inc.! We’re excited to be seeing you and making more forever friends in 2016!

As a speaker/comedian who has the privilege of performing all over the U.S., with a primary focus being Special Needs Organizations (Down Syndrome Association, Autism Societies, Special Olympics, etc.), the Buddy Cruise rises to the top as one of the best conferences available to people with Ds and their friends and families. As I always say, it is the only conference I can think of in which ideas of inclusion and awareness are happening simultaneously with the conference itself, as the "Buddy Cruisers" enjoy the many amenities and activities of the ship, and touching lives everywhere on board. Exposure is key in opening hearts and minds for people with Down syndrome. The Buddy Cruise does an A1 job in making this happen! While traveling, i never hesitate to promote this event as an "must" for anyone touched by someone special with that wonderful extra chromosome! ..the food is better than most conferences too.

The passion and enthusiasm of the leaders of this organization is truly inspiring. Bringing a conference like this on board a ship is genius in that it not only provides all of the resources, entertainment and speakers which benefit its attendees - but it also helps raise the awareness of everyone else on board about the joy of those who have Ds! Other conferences may talk about this, but the Buddy Cruise does it simultaneosly with the conference itself.

If i were ever to hit an iceberg while on board a cruise ship, and had only a few hours left to live, I'd want my final moments to be with these folks!

I cannot begin to express how The Buddy Cruise has enriched my life. The concept of Buddy Cruise was that of my older children in honor of their younger brother. The idea of a Down syndrome conference with expert speakers on board a cruise ship was quite appealing; however, before the inaugural voyage was over we realized this was SO much more. Being able to spend so much quality time with other families who share your experiences is unmatched. Learning with and from others who have walked this walk before you and being able to inspire those whose journey is just beginning surpasses any conference or vacation experience I have ever had. I think having the “down” time to vacation with the families and really form bonds between the sessions and in port make this so unique. Now in its 4th year, The Buddy Cruise is becoming more like a big reunion with so many returning each year to welcome into the Buddy Cruise family those who are sailing with us for the first time.

Buddy Cruise is an organization that from it's first voyage has changed my life forever.
I am one of the founders, as well as a parent of a child with DS. When we started the organization our son was three and the thought was to bring together families that shared a common bond. What we got has been so much more. The Buddy Cruise has become our extended family. Everyone who sails with us will forever be connected to each other through the bond of shared experiences, hopes, dreams and memories.
Words can not express the gratitude we have for the educational speakers that have donated their time and expertise to enlighten us. My hope is that this family continues to grow and continues to spread the mission of education, awareness and inclusion that Buddy Cruise has come to represent.
I can't wait to see everyone on the 2011 sailing.

My friend, Pam Arnoldson, is the one that put the Buddy Cruise together. She got the idea from the Buddy Walk and ran with it. She has done a magnificent job of getting information and making sure that it got out to all those that needed it. With the Buddy Cruise, there are speakers, seminars and lots of fun!! The Buddy Cruise is something that will grow and grow and help more people each and every year. They deserve all the help they can get, they are a VERY WORTHY cause!!!

2010 was my 1st Buddy Cruise, and it was life changing! The amount of information and support that is offered to individuals, family, and friends of Down Syndrome is incredible. This group is really focused on breaking the stereotypes associated with DS. Everyone has such a great time making life-long friends, being included in ship activites, and attending seminars. This really is an amazing experience for anyone affected by Down Syndrome.

The Buddy Cruise is both an amazing experience and organization!!

It runs like a finely oiled machine ... participants and speakers/presenters collaborate and enjoy each other's company in a fun and exceptional learning environment.

The hundreds of others onboard have the added benefit of being "educated" on Down syndrome and realizing the value and worth of people with disabilities. The benefits are numerous!

I have been involved in the Down's Syndrome community for over 20 years, first as a parent and then after the death of my son as a volunteer and worker for a UK charity that helps families whose member woth Down's Syndrome has heart defects too. Over that time I have learned how invaluable it is is for families to meet and socialise and how much they can learn from each other in an informal setting.

Buddy Cruise offers an opportunity for families to hear from professionals in the field, to gain increased expectation for their youngsters from the example of advocates with Down's Syndrome and time to socialise in a relaxed environment where their child is not the only 'different' one.

It also provides an excellent social platform for people with Down's Syndrome to meet and make new friends which can be difficult for them, particularly as they get older and leave the education system.

I think Buddy Cruise is an excellent venture, the feedback from families I know who have attended is so positive - I just wish I could join them!

Having attended the last two Buddy Cruises, I would have to say that the experience was fantastic. People come from all over the country and some from across the ocean with a common interest, our children and family members with Down Syndrome. The team that organizes the cruises have done a great job in putting together an educational, entertaining and rewarding experience for all those that attend. They have found a place where the DS community can mingle with one another and the general population at the same time. I, myself have gained friends who I believe will last a life time. Looking forward to the next trip.

Last year, I wanted to take my daughter on a Buddy Cruise for her 40th birthday. From my first call asking for information, I was impressed with the Buddy Cruise staff and looking forward to meeting everyone. I was not disappointed. The social opportunities and the special events for Buddy Cruisers truly made our experience richer and more memorial. My daughter loves to tell people about her trip and she can hardly wait to take another Buddy Cruise. This organization truly fills a HUGE needs for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families. I can not recommend them enough.

Buddy Cruise is an amazing and creative way for families of children with Down syndrome to come together for an extended time of fellowship and learning. So many different pertinent topics are presented by professionals in the Down syndrome community. Lots of great planned activities, but lots of down time and free time. Would just prefer that the cruise not go during hurricane season!

Buddy Cruise was a wonderful opportunity for my family and I to socialize with and learn from other families that have a child with DS. Since our daughter was only 4, the Buddy Cruise allowed us to socialize with people of all ages with DS. It was an amazing, inspirational and heartwarming experience. Thanks to all the hard working volunteers and generous donors who made Buddy Cruise possible. :)

My family accompanied my daughter who is 21 and has Down syndrome. This is now the event that my daughter will look forward to every year. Meeting and interacting with other people who have Down syndrome has been so important to her development. Adults with intellectual disabilities need to have opportunities to make friends with others like themselves. This is a "normal" activity that exposes them to people they would never have met.
The speakers were encouraging to parents and kids alike! We heard positive stories of other people with struggles like our own.
And the effect our group must have had on the other cruisers who were not in our group! This is one of the best settings to promote Down syndrome to the world! Our cruisers fit right in with the rest of them having fun! We had the winner of the belly flop contest and we all did our share of the dancing!
It was awesome as my daughter would say!

I have been involved with Buddy Cruise since their inaugural voyage in October 2008, as their photographer. Buddy Cruise provides quality education and fun activities on a cruise. Workshop topics include education (including IEPs and working with public school), health issues, sex, and more! Aside from the workshops, they organize dances, ice cream socials, group tours, and more for the conference attendees. They strike a good balance between "free time" to explore the ship & the island(s) and Buddy Cruise-specific events (workshops and social functions).

Past speakers include Emily Perl Kingsley (Sesame Street writer), Chris Burke ("Corky" from Life Goes On) with Joe & John DeMasi, Troy McClain ("The Apprentice"), musician Sujeet Desai, and many others.

The best part of Buddy Cruise is the friendships that are forged. Each year, I look forward to seeing past cruisers, as well as meeting new families. It's such a friendly group of people and I hope to be a part of it each year.
